Why there NEEDS to be a Changelings-aren't-all-bad episode.

Actually, changelings are bad.

I am sick of every bad guy having to be misunderstood or a tormented soul these days, Discord going from manifestation of Chaos to "I just wanted a friend the whole time" was bad enough.

The fact that they might not have much of a choice in the matter makes makes them more interesting antagonists and makes their actions a bit more understandable, but it does not justify them.

 

If there is going to e a redemption episode, make it about a single changeling, not the species as a whole and definitely not about Chrysalis.

Now hold on, that is not the argument I'm making here at all. I did not say they were justified, nor was I trying to make them out to be misunderstood or tormented. Trust me, I dislike those attempts to do that just as much as you do. I am not even asking for a redemption episode.

 

My argument was not that every Changeling is in need of a redemption story, but rather that not all Changelings in the world are uniformly bad, due to what we've seen of them so far. Discord is one person, when we're talking about an entire species here, and yes, whilst Chrysalis and her army certainly qualify as being bad, it shouldn't be applied to the entire species, because "Always Chaotic Evil" simply shouldn't have a place in the universe of My Little Pony for the reasons I detailed in my argument.

I like the idea. In my headcannon is plays out like this: The changelings used to be a in small scattered groups which would feed off of just enough love to survive and nopony was hurt by it. Then the queen managed to rally the majority of them behind her by promising more food better lives. Then they attempted to attack canterlot (and we all know what happened then), and after they were blasted out the queen was killed (or at least fell out of power).

 

So an episode where they show that not all changelings are bad would be interesting. What if the changeling was already in ponyvill, hiding from the queen and her followers. The changling could be discovered and the Mane 6 could help it become accepted.

I'm still more in favor of having the changeling du jour that's used to show they're not all bad be one that did willingly follow the Queen. Because if we pick from the "good" side of a putative Changeling Civil War, we're still declaring open season on all the ones on the "bad" side. If we're willing to give Luna a second chance after Nightmare Moon, we should be willing to offer the olive branch to random foot soldiers as well.

The Changelings don't seem to have a hivemind, taking verbal orders, one sucker-kicking Rainbow Dash, having different emotional expressions on their faces (some appeared overjoyed to attack Canterlot), and the one that turned into Pinkie Pie on demand. As individuals, they shouldn't be all bad.

 

Here's hoping for Changelings to show up in future episodes!
