SparkBrony's Suggestions for MLP Forums

Hi there everypony! I just wanted to share with you some of my suggestions for this great forum! I try to come up with all kinds of ideas to make try to make stuff better. So...here's what I cameup with:

1. Post Count Under Name

I dunno about you, but I like to see how many posts other people have by just easily looking under their username. Example:

2. A Specific Branch for Fan Clubs

There's so many character fan clubs out there, I thought they should all have their own specific branch of the forum ("Fan Clubs") That way new and old members could easily find and participate in discussions of their favorite characters.

That's all for now! I'll edit this post if I think of anything else. Thanks for reading and please comment! :D

I believe both issues have been addressed before.

From what I gather, this used to be around in ancient times, but was removed in January 2012. The problem I see with a post counter is that people will see the figure as a status marker, and thus try to get more posts. While removing the counter certainly doesn't fix the problem (the badges, popup, and profile will still show the number), I believe that it was a good move. Posting should not be a competition.

Also, I believe that postcount and brohoofs should be hidden on the hovercard, as well. I don't think posting quality should be judged based on how many brohoofs or posts a user has.

This was brought up as well, but the response was that clubs weren't important enough to warrant their own section in the forums.

Here's what Zoop said:

Is there really any point to making a full board for them if there's already an unobtrusive index for them? I don't really see the benefit it would afford.

I hate to sound like a spoilsport, but I think the test for creating a new board ought be a difficult one to pass. The twilicorn board was added for the sake of fencing off discussions that were starting to annoy the heck out of a lot of people while at the same time giving the forum a decent SEO boost for related searches, the Equestria Girls board added partially for the same reason, and partially because it's going to be a new and potentially significant FiM spin-off, etc.

Im not against adding new boards (heck, I proposed one myself), but they have to really be sold hard to me.

1. Post Count Under Name

The decision to remove post counts beneath people's names was made because it's something that people pay too much attention to - it's just a number, after all; it isn't anything that is important at all. We want people to focus on making quality posts rather than posting for post count - similarly, we want people to judge the worth of a post based solely on that post's content and quality, rather than the post count of the person that posted it. We feel that greatly reducing the forum's emphasis on post counts work toward this goal.

That said, it is still possible to view someone's post count without going to their profile - if you hover your mouse over someone's username a window will appear showing various bits of information about them, including their count.

2. A Specific Branch for Fan Clubs

Honestly, we're very - very - selective about adding new boards. The idea to have a specific board (and/or sub board) for fan clubs has come up before, but was ultimately deemed unnecessary.
