Commander_PonyShep 349 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 Back then, I thought Twilight becoming an alicorn princess was too out-of-character for her, and that "Magical Mystery Cure" was a hypocritical episode in that the girls defy their switched-up destinies to restore their own, while Twilight was given a destiny that barely suited her. Now I'm over it, especially after reading "Twilight Sparkle and The Crystal Heart Spell," and after learning Twilight will not outlive her friends. When you come to think of it, Twilight loves to study, and will always do even when she has an entire nation to run. However, all of those years of studying she enjoyed, whether in magic or in the magic of friendship, were all to prepare her to become a leader. That, and her teacher is a leader of Equestria herself. So if Twilight loves to study magic and friendship, and her beloved studies prepared her to become a princess, then that would only lead to one conclusion: Twilight becoming a princess was actually in-character for her, after all! That, and she'll still have a lot more to learn as a princess, whether in her books or with her friends. What do you think?
Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 Well, let's start at the beginning, when Twilight Sparkle was a filly. As we heard from the Cutie Mark Choronicles, she loved to study books and learn magic. Once she entered magic school as Celestia's protoge, that's where everything began. When Twilight grew up, she was sent to Ponyville, where she learned about the magic of friendship. Every two-parter episode of the series portrays a big lesson for Twilight Sparkle. Season 1's theme was discovering the magic of friendship and discovering the Elements of Harmony Season 2's theme was about fighting for friendship and the constant struggle of maintaining friendships Season 2's finale theme was about relying on your instincts and trusting them to ensure that you do not lose your friends Season 3's theme was about self-sacrifice, a major part of friendship. Twilight gains much knowledge about magic and we even see her exhibit some dark magic Season 3's finale theme marked the begining of a new life for Twilight, as she wrote her very first spell to reverse the spell that switched the destinies of her friends. Now, as a princess, Twilight will learn many new and hard lessons. So from the start, it was in character. 5 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeWg-TtBRMfqketa1ELyKGg Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/menelik-david-kenneth-cannady 2nd SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/thunder-dash-alternative/tracks Pony.fm: https://pony.fm/thunder-dash

I think the episode of Cutie Mark Chronicles really hinted that Twilight will end up becoming a princess. Thunder-dash totally nails it, and this was entirely planned from the start. I just hope Season 4 won't be a disappointment compared to what Twi has learned in the first three seasons. "You learn a lot about people when you listen to the songs that mean something to them." Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 I just hope Season 4 won't be a disappointment compared to what Twi has learned in the first three seasons. Well, this can open new doors to lessons about leading a group. Think about all of the lessons about managing a society and what burdens that puts on an individual. Like: depending on your friends or mentor for advice when things get hard to handle instead of saying you can do it (Applebuck Season taken to the next level). This may require the repetition of some lessons heard in the first 3 seasons, but taken to a deeper level, yet remains understandable for the younger community. Righteous Fury 344 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 Yep. Think about all the Twilight-centered episodes thus far. They're all about her either developing strong leadership skills, or learning to accept her strong powers.

Scootalove 10,689 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 From the beginning, it was definitely in-character. Ever since she came to Ponyville, she wasn't interested in friendship at all but later on in the show. She realized that friendship is very important to her, Seasons 1, 2, and 3 all showed that Twilight would definitely find an interest in helping her friends since she was under the teachings of Princess Celestia. She knew that Twilight would be ready to be her successor, and be able to learn new lessons on the way as a princess. Commander_PonyShep 349 May 9, 2013 Author Share May 9, 2013 (edited) And, let's not forget about what this almost reminds me of. Isn't the Twilight/Celestia dynamic almost similar to the Luke/Obi-Wan dynamic or the Luke/Yoda dynamic? When you look at Twilight's journey, it's technically the same as Luke Skywalker, and by extension countless other mythological heroes, especially protagonists of RPGs like Persona 4 or Mass Effect. In other words, it's a Hero's Journey, a quest to grow strong and apply the huge variety of new powers toward helping others. Technically, Twilight's quest followed the basic patterns, including: Call to Adventure: Twilight leaves Ponyville to make friends. Refusal: Twilight's reluctance to make friends. Supernatural Aid: Her past ten-or-more years of studying magic at Canterlot. Cross the Threshold: Twilight explores Ponyville and meets five mares her age. Stomach of the Whale: Everfree Forest and freeing Luna from Nightmare Moon with her friends. Road of Trials: The huge variety of friendship lessons Twilight and her friends would learn. Meeting With Goddess: Her friends, and occasionally Shining Armor and Princess Cadence. Woman as Temptress: Villains such as Discord, Queen Chrysalis, Trixie, and King Sombra. Atonement With Father: Twilight saves her friends, whether from Discord's spell or their switched-up cutie-marks. Apotheosis: Twilight earns wings, the title of princess, and the responsibilities that come with both. It doesn't mean she'll outlive her friends or no longer depend on them, though, because neither of those things will happen. Return: She rules Equestria at her Golden Oaks Library in Ponyville, so that she could be close to her friends. She also has more friendship lessons to learn with her friends. Okay So I agree with pretty much everything you said except for the rule Equestria part, I mean She can still be a princess and not rule a country or something Blueblood's only fan in the whole wide Fandom
Commander_PonyShep 349 May 9, 2013 Author Share May 9, 2013 (edited) If I have one complaint regarding Twilight the alicorn princess, though, it's that she's taller than her friends. The taller frame is subtle, but it'll feel odd seeing Twilight as a secondary character in episodes focusing on somepony else other than herself, where she's no longer the same size as any of her friends. But then again, Optimus Prime is the largest of all the Autobots, not just the leader and strongest of the Autobots, even if at times one of his teammates are the main-focus of an episode, not him. So I guess it's normal for the leader of a team of heroes to be taller than his/her teammates, right? I just hope the writers and animators shrink Twilight back to her normal size for S4, the same way they made Luna taller and completely redesigned in Luna Eclipsed, that is. Other than that, Twilight deserved to become an alicorn princess. And the best part is that she will always have something to learn from her friends, wings or no wings!
