New graduate pony

Greetings every pony,

I am new to these forms, but I mostly posted on Equestria Daily comment sections, by the same user name.  So being this is my first post, I will make an attempt to introduce myself.

I have been a fan of the show for a few years now and I attend meet up groups in NJ and NYC. For about a year, I even attended Big Apple PonyCon in NYC, since I could not attend Bronycon at the time.

I just graduated with my MBA with a concentration in information systems.  I also have bachelors of science.  So being college is finished, I am looking to become a bit of an artist and ventrally start my own tumbler page, that is pony themed.  However, I will be practicing my artwork much first, before I make the jump onto tumbler. The “art” side of me is not part of my profession, but a side hobby of mine.

I do have questions in regards to that topic of art, but I figured I would withhold them for now and post them on an appreciate threads.  Once I search around first, to see if a new topic will be needed to be made, or if I can find that my questions could already be answered, but for now I will look and search before I post.

Yea, I been on forums for years, but this is my “third” MLP based forum, besides from a TF2 server pony fortress and Equestria Daily’s comment sections.

So… Greetings!

Welcome! You seem like quite the interesting person~

May I ask which college you attended, and if you'd recommend going there? I may only be a young teen, but I'm already researching and finding the best places to go. An aspiring meteorologist needs to go to a good college, otherwise I'm screwed. Well, I could fall back on my artistic skills, but... I digress. XD

A fellow artist! I love seeing new art around these forums, I sure do hope you'll post some of your art in Creative Resources :D

If you need any help navigating these forums (which I doubt, but you never know ;s) shoot me a PM or comment on my profile, I'll gladly help. And I'm always up to chat, too :)

Welcome to the MLPForums magic. :P I hope you enjoy your stay. I also wouldn't be afraid to post your stuff in the art section looking for some pointers or whatnot. There are some really friendly artists on here that can be a big help when it comes to improvement.

@Octavia's Cellozoid  Bear with me, as this will be a long response....

Ok I will try to answer your questions, for your first question, I went to DeVry University for my bachelor’s degree in science.  As for my masters, I went to Keller University School of Management.  (Even though Keller is owned by DeVry, it is considered a separate school).

I looked into transferring into Rutgers or Keen University for my masters, but found out that it would be easily more expensive to transfer and graduate to these university’s then it would be to go to Keller.  I have to keep myself in a certain budget, that and the fact that they wanted me to repeat classes, because my credits would not be “compatible” with the schools classes, did not make sense to me.  Further research proved to me that many university’s do not like you to “transfer” credits from one school to another and prefer you to take more classes then you need, so they can get you to pay more tuition, due to you graduating form a different university form them.

I strongly felt that in my case, it wouldn’t pay for me to do it this way, so I went to Keller, since my credits transferred easily after I scored high on the placement tests and got accepted.

Anyway Moving on,  I went to DeVry because they had the strong “trade school” background in computer networking and technology, plus the fact that they were a university allowed me to get my degree, while still focusing on technology, it was a good fit at the time.  Would I recommend it?  Only if your focus is on EET (Electronic Engineering Technology), Computer Networking,  Computer Programming.  If you are looking to be meteorologist, then I would NOT recommend that school, since it does fit well with what you are looking for, based on what you told me this far.  In my case, I was shooting for a combination of computer networking and management.

Also if you plan to go for your masters, think very hard about your budget (keep those loans under 60,000 otherwise your entry-level wages (Typically $30,000 to $40,000), will make it very hard for you to pay them back.  I planned ahead to avoid this headache.  Therefore, my monthly payments are doable, (I am paying them back on a standard 10 year plan, but I throw a little more money at it per month so I will be paying it off sooner than later.) So if you decide to go for a masters, just keep an eye on those loans and scholarships.  I gotten a few but they are paying less and less by the year so do not go by that.

Wow I talk too much, MOVING ON, to answer your question about what school would be good for you, I would say Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA and Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fl, appear to be popular for a Meteorologist major.  But sometimes popularity is not what it all is cracked up to be.  I can say from all the interviews I been on and the jobs I had, most employers will not care what school or university you went to.  As long as it is a accredited institution and that you know your stuff.  My final advice on the subject is when you research one, explore the environment    on campus and talk to other students, ignore what the college “recruiters” say, since they are just

@WingMcCallister  I will in time, but for now, I will be asking other artists for assistance, since I am going from drawing on paper to digital artwork.  I will be talking about that topic in a thread that I either create or find on the forums.  Looks like I might end up creating one, since I will be listing what I have and what I am trying to do.

@Lunia  Thank you I will keep that in mind, my question to you would be , if I "quote" you, will you get an E-mail to alert you that someone  "quoted" you on this forum?  It is not clear to me if the person you are quoting will be alerted if I use that quote button.  I understand if the person checks the box off "please alert me to reply’s to this topic or post" but I am not sure if it applies to quotes.

Welcome to the forums! We are all awesome, gorgeous and sexy here!

@ Nighmawe Woon  I like to think we are all gorgeous and sexy in our own little ways. smile.png  If not we can always change our looks.

Oh, wow, thanks. I've been looking, and there's actually a really good, cheap college right near my hometown. I'm not going to stop searching, though. I still have a few years before I make my final decision, so Im not going to stop now. Thanks again! :D

Also, I happen to be an artist xD well, digitally anyways. Shoot me the link once you get the topic up? :)
