Getting started on the creative side of bronies?

Hi, after watching a few brony convention panels on youtube and fan content I have been thinking about starting producing for the brony community as well as consuming. However I dont really know where to start. I have done some pony drawings but I really want to improve on that so if you know any good tutorials can you post a link to them here. Also I need to know what software to use for the pony art. I have gimp but i'm not really sure how to use it for artwork as I usually just use it for normal graphic design.

 

I am also interested in animation and don't really know where to start there as well.

 

Lastly I would like to learn how to voice act to help out in peoples fanfics and my own.

 

So I would really love it if someone could point me in the right direction.

Well for art I'm not totally sure on any tutorials, I just kinda searched for stuff on youtube and took bits from it. 

 

Eventuelly through trial I worked it out to be decent. It may help you to get a tablet if you don't have one, typically is easier to use over a mouse, or atleast you won't have to climb the learning curve of a mouse.

 

As for animations I don't really know, you'll have to ask others or look for tutorials and stuff, but you'll probaly need to invest money in software for that. Regardless starting is the first step to getting better.

 

And for voice acting I don't know much, i'd just practice and also maybe learn about singing, apparently that helps with voice acting since alot of voice actors are also able to sing, probaly because it helps with changing voices idk.

 

Maybe if you really are interested you could get a voice coach and learn to sing or whatever to, but that costs money so may not be an option for you.

 

Overall i think the most important part is starting, and then being persistent to learn, with some persistence and work you can actually get pretty good at a ton of stuff.

I've done a lot of drawing and am getting started on making customs myself, since I'm not very good with graphic design. But if you're interested in vectoring and digital art, I know that there are a lot of brony groups dedicated to that on deviantART, and I'm sure the members would be happy to help you with any questions you may have. 

 

As for voice acting, I've seen people asking for voice acting volunteers for their videos on YouTube before. Keeping an eye on the brony animators' YouTube projects is a good start for that - you never know when there will be an opportunity for you to help them out, and it will give you a head start in gaining voice acting experience.

 

Good luck in your creative endeavors! It's awesome that you're taking the first step. Everyone is a beginner at some point, so don't feel discouraged. Just enjoy learning and growing as a brony artist, in whatever creative field - or fields - that you decide.
