Main page sidebar

A couple suggestions for the sidebar on the main page (the one that shows recent topics, status updates, etc.). The second one is more technical, though.
 
A feature I would be happy about is the ability to rearrange the sidebar. It would be nice to be able to order things up by their importance to the individual.
 
Another feature that would be cool is an option in the settings menu that allows you to choose what you want to see in the sidebar. You could even choose the order there, if you want to merge both of these suggestions. Extra options could include friend activity, top posters, (today's) top bro hooved content, watched threads... stuff. That's all I can think of right now.

 

I just noticed recently that I'm at the top of "Today's top posters". Also, I never knew that even existed until just now. I think it would be cool for that to be in the sidebar (Or would that cause people to make low quality posts in an attempt to get featured?

I like the second idea.

 

The first idea I honestly think is a little unnecessary. Anyone here will tell you that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to posts. If the top posters are on the front page, I feel like new people (or anyone, for that matter) will feel like the forum is a posting contest, and will ultimateIy just lead to spam. I feel like the "Today's top posters" list is fine where it is.

Hmm, first idea doesn't really seem worthwhile, honestly, considering that those statistics pages aren't that important in the long run. But the second idea has some potential, perhaps.

#1: Unfortunately, with the way that IP.Board's sidebar is programmed, there won't be any simple way to allow users to rearrange the blocks in it to their liking. A customizable sidebar would be cool, but it's on the impractical side with our current technical limitations, unfortunately.

 

#2: This is sort of possible. You can collapse a sidebar block, hiding its contents, by clicking the little X that appears when you hover over its title. Screenshot relevant:
