I think I want to play the Violin.

So, I have a recent urge to start playing the Violin. I enjoyed playing guitar for awhile, but now it just doesn't quite give me the same enjoyment. The Violin looks very appealing to me though. It looks so...delicate, and it sounds so soothing. So yeah, my interest is definitely peaked.

Now, I need tips on looking for a good beginner kit and stuff like that. Tips on playing, etc. Anything is welcome.

On eBay they have some cheap ones that are good for beginner's. I would NOT recommend getting a colored one from them unless you wish to repaint it. Just buy a set and good set of strings for it since they suck and learn on that. If you're interested I'll give you a link.

I actually just saw this:

(No idea what the crap happened to my post...)

Is... @Daniel40k part of your post

Anyway, if your school offers band/music classes it may be a good idea to see if you can get lessons there. Besides, if they happen to have a violin they'd be willing to lend then that means ya don't have to spend a penny until you're sure it's something you really want to pursue.

Ok... My post is now part of your post... twilightawkwardplz.gif?1

I'll just see myself out now!

If you do not GO after what you want, you'll never have it. If you do not ASK, the answer will always be NO.

If you do not step froward, you'll always be in the same place.

I do online schooling now, but it's not a bad idea. I know this: I'm definitely passionate about *wanting* to play it. I do want to try this. I'll put in the money if I must, gladly.

Have you heard Lindsey Stirling?

I have, and I *love* her playing. She is somewhat of an inspiration, I suppose.

(By the way guys, I have no Earthly idea what is wrong with this post. I've never seen this happen before. :| )

As you can probably tell from the comment I left on your status, I say go for it!  I played violin for years and was given a new one for Christmas last year, it's been so long I'll probably have to relearn to play though.  Don't be afraid to ask if you have questions, I'll tell you anything I happen to remember.  The biggest thing?  Your posture, if you slouch it will change the sound, violins are interesting that way.  I hope you enjoy playing, I know I loved it when I was decent at it!

Haha! true! Very true! yay.png

I'd ALWAYS mess up with my posture and the way I'd hold my bow when I first started! I'd mess up at least once doing something like that every single practice session for the first year or so! Hahaha! Man...

I was lucky in that I was able to learn through the school I attended, so the teacher was adamant that we have good posture, and made sure we all knew how it affected the sound when our posture was poor.

I started off with Suzuki school. However, I wouldn't suggest that because they can be too mechanic with their approach. I highly suggest looking for a good violin teacher who's had orchestral experience if you want to play. She'll help you get the good habits required for violin playing so you can play at your best. Yes there's bad habits for violin playing, and if they build, your performances on the violin will end terribly.

i wish i learned violin, i can play guitar and bass but violin is by far my favorite instrument, its so pretty but also it instantly makes everything sadder.

Not necessarily. It took me about an hour to learn how delicate this instrument is, yet it's capable of very powerful music. Take Lindsey Stirling, for example, look at some of her songs and try and find a video where she doesn't smile while playing. (You might find one or two, but she gives it a lively sound and look for that matter.) So it's not all sadness and despair. If you're interested, do give it a shot.
