Geldings?

After re-watching "Magic Duel" the line  Twilight's line "I can even turn a mare into a stallion" suddenly hit me. Stallion, but then I thought "I wonder if there are any geldings" and just to clarify a gelding is a castrated equine.  Do you think there are any geldings? who knows? maybe colt had a horrible accident or disease or something? Your thoughts? In probably a funny situation I think Snowflake is gelding (Note this topic is just for discussion I dont mean to offend anyone or the show since I know a guy who only has 1 testicle and making fun of this serious subject would make me a hypocrite which I despise)

I could maybe see that in some extreme situations like accidents or diseases when they would have to snip snip down there which as a guy just makes me cringe thinking about it but other than that I doubt it.

i figure that it would happen if the stallion was injured down there, but i would also think that it would be very uncommon.   : p

Horses or ponies that retain one testicle up inside them and drop just one,  are known as a cryptorchid and usually in the real world become a gelding since they are non registerable with any breed society but they can still reproduce foals. If the vet only removes the testicle that's dropped and not the internal one, the horse is known as a "Rig" and can although usually quieter, there is still a slim chance they can produce a foal. This is why vets usually have to do expensive exploratory surgery to geld Cryporchid horses.

 

In MLP FiM I'd have to say there would be no geldings. Reason I say this is because a gelding is a MAN MADE thing, not something that happens with out the influence of man. Humans geld horses so that they are quieter to ride and easier to train, and so that they can be safely kept with other horses in a herd. Stallions tend to be too focused on breeding mares and are a handful, often dangerous to ride if not trained properly. Yeah they are horny little devils! Two stallions will fight with each other if kept in the same paddock and can be dangerous. Obviously if kept with a mare there will be a foal!

 

In Ponyville, the stallions would have more self control because they are have human qualities to them, and they get married before... well trying to produce foals. They have better manners than an actual stallion would have since they think and don't just rely on instincts.

 

Anyways that's my two bits worth. Good question though.

Some of them I am sure would but even if the most chaste society pre marital sex still happens so some of them might have the occasional "accident" if you know what I mean which would be especially likely if the mare is in heat. It would be interesting to see how the ponies handle their urges, most of the fics I have read that address this topic are mare/mares go into heat go nuts and try to rape every stallion they can get their hooves on. Those fics of course have their own ahem appeal and while they probably have some degree of truth to them are probably greatly exaggerated from how those matters would actually be handled by mares and stallions.

This is an excellent idea. I bet all the little girls would love this.

But seriously, I think it's a good idea, just maybe not for MLP. Although it's popular with an older crowd, that's only because it's made for little girls.
