With the gear on her back Icy felt her heart racing. Flying was her dream, but now that she had the things to make her dream on true she stood in place, not sure if she wanted to anymore. She was stood still for a while and had to take a breathe to relax her self.

She turned to face Orion.

"I better do this before I chicken out again"  She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you. you don't know what this means to me" Icy turned. She stood next to the edge and jumped. -Please let me live to regret this- she thought as she fell.

As she neared the ground she opened the wings took off to the sky.

Orion blushed a little from the kiss, before smiling gratefully. He didn't realize just how much of a great blessing he had given to the mare. He actually helped her to achieve her dream of flight...the same dream he had, and the same exact dream that most of his colleagues laughed at.

 

Well look whose laughing now.... Orion thought proudly to himself.

 

He was frightened by the daring leap that Icy had made, but he remained calm and with much confidence in her. In just a flashing moment, Orion's eyes widened in amazement as he saw the mare fly up into the sky. He was impressed. He was beyond awestruck as he had just witnessed....the second non-pegasi flier, in all of Equestrian history.

 

"You did it! Your the first unicorn to fly in all of Equestrian history!! This is amazing!" Orion said in a mixture of wonder and elation. 

 

What a beautiful flier. Orion thought to himself.

Icy watched the ground she flew in the sky, She was scared and her breathing as fast, but the feel of the wind in her face and hair was enough to calm her down. Her mind and thoughts were so clear. Then she looked back to what she did early.

"Dear Luna, I must have looked like some sort of hussy. I need to control my emotions better" Icy said to herself. Still she owed Orion something for granting her dream. She froze the water in the sky and made small platforms where she would land and jump off to. She couldn't walk on the clouds like a pegasus, so making ice platforms she could walk on was close enough for her.

Once she was high enough in the air, she closed her eyes, did a black flip, and let go of the controls. She fell back to the earth at an amazing speed. The gust of wind in her face was a thrill. as she neared the ground she opened the wings.

She blew past dangerously close to two ponies.

"Watch out" She yelled as she passed over them.

She flew back to Orion's store. She slowed her speed and tried to make an elegant landing. She stumbled and tried to place her hooves on the roof in a stable manner.

"How do land?" she couldn't seem to find a way to land and stop moving the wings at the same time.

Orion was very impressed. He saw that this mare was indeed a quick learner. He felt very heartfelt knowing that he had helped her achieve her wish. He also noticed that she seemed to be having difficulty landing, so he tried his best to help her.

 

"Just keep your legs still! Don't push or pull against any of the strings, just do nothing practically, so you can simply hover down!" Orion yelled from below.

@, Nuclear giggled, trotting a bit slower. "I don't think that is very tru-" The gray mare was cut off by a sudden shout from the sky.  'What the crap?!' she thought.

Nuclear ducked quickly. "Oh snap! I guess you were not kidding, Scribe!"

'Wait....was that a flying unicorn? No...it couldn't...could it?'

"I was only joking!" yelled Scribe towards whatever it was which had dived at them from the sky. "It wasn't a challenge!"

 

He turned to Nuclear and hastily added "That had nothing to do with me I swear! Are you okay?"

 

'Typical, just typical...' he thought, checking around him in case the... whatever it was... returned.

Nuclear fixed her windblown hair, though it didn't really look different from how it usually was.

"Yeah... I'm fine..." She turned her head in the direction that whatever it was flew.

"I swear to Celestia that was a unicorn...." Nuclear looked at Scribe, a confused look on her face.

"What, like an Alicorn?" Scribe said with a puzzled look on his face over the confusing situation."I thought that they tended to be... you know... graceful? What would one be doing here, nearly crashing into us? Other than indirectly making what I said come true."

Icy stopped move and finally landed on the roof. She smiled as she pulled the string to release herself from the wings. She had biggest smile on her face and felt so good. She looked around and walked over to Orion.

"That was a lot of fun. Thank you so much" Icy thought of something

"Hey if you're not busy later, would you like to join me walking around town?" she said

Orion smiled at her back. He knew she could do it all along. He knew she could do it because she had the exact same drive of passion he had when he made his first flight attempt.

 

"Your absolutely welcome, it's the least I could do for you. Looked like you had a lot fun!" Orion happily replied. "Well okay then. That sounds like fun. Just for today...I'll end my shift extra early."

She shook her head. "It was noisy and thiings looked really really weird..."

Nuclear tapped her chin with her hoof. "Hmmm....Hey Scribe...." She narrowed her eyes as she thought. "Ya wanna go see if we can find out what the heck that was?"

Her curiosity was sparked and she would find out whatever flew by actually was.

"Of course I do!" He grinned. "I'd be a bit of a useless adventurer if I let something like that get away, wouldn't I? Did you see where it went?"

 

This was more like it, coffee and donuts were all good and well but the chance to explore? Much more satisfying.

Spark stared at the door to her shop, and double checked the sign said "open". Business was normally slow, but never this slow. She checked the clock on the wall, then back to the door.

Icy was a little surprised that Orion was really going to close his store early. She could hear Regal's voice in her head.

-A flower such as yourself could make any stallion you wanted your own- Icy hated when Regal's word seemed to hold some truth.

She looked at Orion. He wasn't bad looking and he made her dream of flying come true. She seemed unsure what to think at this point.

"Well I guess I'll just just browse your store until you're ready to close up for the day" She looked at the gear. "So where should I put this?"

"Alright then! Let's go...Hmmm...." Nuclear glanced around, determining the direction the flying thingamajig went.

 

'It was flying pretty fast...when it nearly smacked into us...' she mused.

 

"Hmmm...Aha! This way!" she pointed, taking off the direction she had pointed. "It was flying this way when it turned around, Scribe!"

"I'll get the gear. Enjoy your time exploring my store. It closes in ten minutes." Orion replied.  He then took a hold of the wing gear and began leading her back downstairs.

 

As Orion placed his wings back in his private room of special inventions, he decided to head off to his garage. He wanted to do some extra quick cleaning and polishing on his Model E automobiles.

 

Orion took a good look at them, quite proud of his glorious invention.

 

"Oh I can't wait till I start testing you out!" Orion happily exclaimed to himself.

((Sorry I haven't posted for so long everyone! I have a reason, but it would take too long to explain and still not make a whole lot of sense.)) 

 

Emerald slowly woke up, much later than usual, and after going through his usual morning routine, he headed out to wander the city again. More or less on a whim, he found himself heading back to Spark's shop. He still hadn't given up on her. Half the fun was the thrill of the hunt, after all.

He walked in and was surprised to find the store empty aside from it's owner. "Hey. I guess business is slow today, huh?"

"Question is, what was it? I was too busy not being hit to get a good look." Scribe said as they galloped in the direction of the flying... thing.

"If we knew what it was, we might be able to figure out where it was going."

'Wow, she can't half run when she's interested in something!'

"All I saw was a unicorn with a weird thing on its back!" shouted the gray unicorn as she picked up speed and galloped faster. 

She would be terribly disappointed if they were going to be unable to figure out what had nearly crashed into the two of them.

'Wait a minute, I know where we are...' Scribe thought as the two of them hurtled down the street.

 

"Hold on, this is back towards Orion's place. You don't suppose he's built some kind of... Unicorn-Bird-Robot thing? He didn't seem the type to try and take over Equestria with an army of servants, but I guess you never know."

 

He skidded to a halt and held up a hoof to point ahead of him. A rapidly fading trail of vapor leading exactly where he had guessed.

 

"There! See? Evil Genius. Called it." Pausing, he added "Thats not a good thing, is it?"

Icy browsed a bit waiting for Orion to close up shop. She had a lot of fun today, but the day was still young. She picked up a few things to better look at it. Orion is a fun stallion to be around. She was smiling as she thought about flying and Orion. She would have to make it up to him. She thought about maybe she could take Orion to one of the fancy places around town. Regal could get them into any place for free if she asked him to. She wanted to call Regal her father, but Regal always dodged the question.

She passed by the window of the store and looked out.

She saw Scribe hanging out with that mare. -What should I care- She turned to face away from the window. -I really shouldn't care-

She closed her eyes.

Orion had finally finished polishing and cleaning up his automobile prototypes and began putting his tools and supplies away. Soon enough he entered the shop again, and went to meet up with Icy.

 

"Well, looks like the store closes now. Oh and it's already been a fun day so far! I just got finished polishing up my automobile prototypes. Maybe some time soon, we could test them out for a spin!" Orion exclaimed joyfully. Now flipping the sign from OPEN to CLOSED.

 

He then noticed two ponies at the windows. Not just any two ponies, but two of his new friends, looking through the window!

"Nice to see you guys again! It sure had been awhile. I'm sorry but I just closed my shop for today." Orion called out from behind the windows.

 

He then turned back to Icy. "Well...where do you want to go to now?" He asked.

She tilted her head at Orion. "Oh, we were just investigating whatever had flown by us a few minutes ago!" Nuclear got really close to Orion's face. "You're not an evil scientist in secret, making an of army flying contraptions to take over Equestria, are you?" she inquired. "Hmmm??"

In her eyes you could see a playful gleam.

"Are you mocking me?" Said Scribe in a lighthearted tone, not quite succeeding to suppressing a laugh.

 

"It sounds like you're mocking my logical deductions, Nuclear!"

 

He grinned and turned to Orion, purposfully trying to avoid eye contact with Icy after making a fool of himself the night before.

 

"Sorry, we were just walking together and 'whoosh', something swoops down and nearly takes us with it! You wouldn't happen to have seen anything, would you Orion?"

Orion was amused by the two ponies's response. Especially at Scribes. He thought he would get used to all his crazy inventions by now.   Orion then decided to explain to them about what they had just seen.

 

"What you two saw...was history in the making! You see, I happen to own a pair of mechanical wings, my very first invention in fact! They are powered by perhaps, the most powerful engine to ever exist. Therefore, it can allow me to fly...despite not having real wings."

 

@, 

"Nuclear, welcome to Orion's Chamber of the Century....which I had just closed. It's part of my business in inventing and conjuring ideas for a change of lifestyle that can someday, benefit everypony in Equestria." Orion briefly explained.
