Wait a minute! If we're all here I get to see Sunny again! Blazing thought excitedly. He looked around, searching for Sunny. He couldn't find her yet, so he sat and waited for her in case she hadn't gotten there yet. Well I guess she just hasn't gotten here yet then... He thought.

"I don't know". Monkshood told Pelate, with a strong sense of discomfort within his voice. As he continued walking forward, he began to reflect upon the fact, that he had never felt comfortable within large groups, and often feeling like nothing more than a mere triviality.

Entering the building, Monkshood began to look around as it had appeared he had lost sight of his companions. Glancing around frantically, he hears a friendly voice echo through the still relatively empty mess hall, and notices that Pelate has saved a spot for him at a table. Trotting over to the table Monskhood thinks. "It's rather funny, it not often that I see a pony who is so willing to trust a perfect stranger. This camp has already been more refreshing to me than I had anticipated".

"Oh come on! It'll be fun! I can get one if the staff to set it all up you know, icebreakers. Their fun!"

Pelate insisted it, he had a great feeling this would work well, "what do you think?"

Pelate started eating his food (don't ask it randomly appeared.) "I'm sure it'll be fun."

"You made... A cabbage? That eats ponies?" Wish said blankly.

She had never really cared for agriculture, or plants in any regard for that matter. She really did know the bare minimum that would be expected of a farmers daughter. What she did know however, was that what Ceres had just described was absolutely...

"That's so cool!" She said with a slightly uneasy grin. "Little bit on the scary side... but cool!"

Ceres  smiled at Wish.  'Good.  I was hoping for a positive response to my... profession.'  "Yup, I sure did!  I'm actually here at camp because of my recent creation.  Sedative corn!  Apparently the taste-testers didn't know about the sedative part and they got knocked out for a few days."

Ceres chuckled, "The director was furious!  It was hilarious!"

Ceres calmed herself, "So Wish, where have you been in Equestria so far?  Have you been able to travel much since you've discovered your cutie mark?  You do seem to be a bit young..."

Ceres eyed Wish over carefully, taking in the most minute of details.  As she did so, she rambled.  "Yes, your form seems to be a bit more supple than a fully matured mare, and your coat seems to have a bit more of a sheen to it.  Your eyes..."

Ceres stopped, looking into Wish's eyes.  Then she smiled, "Your eyes show an innocence in them that I haven't seen in ages."

"Fine I'll concede, but fun would be the last word I would use to describe it". Monkshood said with a sigh. It was obvious that he didn't think much of the idea, but was willing to go along with Pelate's plan if it meant that much to him.

Monkshood began to eat his food at steady pace. It had tasted better than anything he had eaten in awhile.

Suddenly his head perked up with a devious grin on his face, and swiftly he opens up his saddlebag. He pulls out a small jar filled with a clear brownish liquid, and two small wooden cups. Opening up the jar, a waft of exotic spices fills the air. He pours the liquid into the two wooden cups, and slides one to Pelate. Finally speaking Monkshood states with a chuckle and a grin. "This is a specially made tea that I brought for myself whilst I was here, but if your going to force me to meet more ponies. I'm going to force you to enjoy a cup of tea with your dinner". As he drinks from his cup, and begins to relax. The prior devious grin on his face begins to turn into a look of contentment.

Pelate makes an unhappy look at his response

But he shrugs it off and then he suddenly gives him tea "oh...ok?" Pelate takes a sip when he suddenly looks to the right of him and he sees Ceres and wish. He couldn't choke down the drink

And he spit it all out "oh my god I forgot" he slams his head on the table. He had to invite every pony if the staff where to accept the request, he didn't want to leave anypony out, but it would be awkward to sit and try to talk with a pony who didn't like him, this was going to be so awkward.

Finishing up his drink, Monkshood turned to a see small puddle of tea upon the table with beads of the substance still rolling down Pelate's face as he stared nervously at Ceres. Indifferent to the loss of his tea, he was told frequently by both his mentor and parents that his tea was always a little too potent for most ponies, he looked at Pelate and told him. "I will go talk to Ceres for you. If you are really that worried about her. I still have much to discuss with her, and I'm sure she will listen to me".

Without giving Pelate a chance to respond, Monkshood got up and trotted over to Ceres. "Greetings Ceres" Monkshood said with a nervous tone. Whilst he was here on behalf of Pelate, Monkshood had other matters he wanted to attend to knowing only Ceres understood the complexity and artistry of nature to such a degree to rival his own.

Ceres looked up from Wish, noticing Monkshood.  Ceres smiled warmly, motioning for him to take a seat with her, Wish, and Parso.  "Hey Monkshood!  Good to see you!  Take a seat, how have you been?"

Ceres had of course been watching Monkshood from the corner of her vision.  She simply had noted that he was sitting with Pelate, and left it at that.  Ceres would not tell other ponies who to hang out with, she could only encourage them to be loyal to her.

Pelates eyes widen "nonono nonono!" Pelate was more nervous than usual, this was too new to him, he had no clue how to react. but the stallion had already gotten up. The gray Pegasus was ready to faint, he was extremely nervous, this was getting more awkward by the second. Pelate slammed on the table again. "Why...why...why..."

He grunted and sat up and looked away from every pony resting his head on his hooves.

"I actually came to ask you, if we could exchange knowledge of are respective fields. I believe we can both agree that there is a great deal of overlap between both of our respective studies. I was hoping that we could go through the trails so we may talk in private, and whilst you may be ample happy to share the devices of your trade with anyone, I would rather keep mine hidden from all but the most knowledgeable of ponies". Monkshood breathed slowly, hoping this would pay off, as spoke in a confident manner not caring how he would be perceived for trying to take Ceres away from her new friends. If his plan was a success, it would give both Pelate a chance to ask the other ponies, and him a chance to pry through the depths of Ceres knowledge.

"Hmm..." Ceres scratched her chin with a hoof.  This was a predicament.  Here she was with Parso and Wish... well, given that Parso seemed nice but Ceres was more interested in wrapping Wish around her hoof than anything else at that particular moment.  But here was Monkshood who was also a high priority target.  'Well, Wish is a mare so I can always get to her in the cabin later.  Plus it's a good thing to stagger your encounters and not stay with one person for too long...'

Ceres nodded, "Alright, I'll take a walk with you.  Sorry Parso, Wish, I won't be too long I'm sure.  I'll catch up with you later!"

Ceres leaned in close to Wish and whispered into her ear.  "I'll see you tonight ok?  Don't go running off to play and have shenanigans without me.  I don't want to be left out."

Ceres winked at Wish and walked out of the lodge, motioning for Monkshood to follow her.

Monkshood quickly ran back to his table after getting conformation from Ceres to only grab the jar which still contained some tea and the two wooden cups. Soon finding himself following behind the black mare.

As they walked along, he asked Ceres. "As you develop your plants, do you not take the relative harshness of nature herself into account. Last we talked for any extended period you had said that your plants could not survive long without you. Whilst you seem to care about them greatly, you value their function rather than the plant's adaptability".

@@Nomadic,

Ceres trotted along aimlessly with Monkshood at her side.  "Oh?  I can see how you can come to that conclusion I suppose."

Ceres looked up, scrunching up her face in an attempt to find the right words.  Ceres turned her face back to Monkshood.  "What I meant was that they get incredibly lonely.  Trust me, if I planted any of my babies here they would flourish.  In fact, I've taken precautions so that they don't  over-run Canterlot.  I even made an agreement with the director that he had to go and tend to my own garden while I was gone if he was going to force me on this vacation.  Some of them would even cannabalise eachother, making the whole Greenhouse a warzone!"

Ceres sighed, "I really don't want that to happen for obvious reasons.  I love all of my children and they tend to get restless when mamma isn't home."

Ceres edged herself a little bit closer to Monkshood as they walked, gauging his reaction.  "How about you?  You said your a traveling apothecary, I'm sure you have quite the repituare of concoctions in that satchel of yours."

"Oh indeed I do, I spent most of my young years travelling with my parents. They were botanists, often they would repeatedly tell me that are goal was to research and classify nature. Eventually, I was able to apprentice myself out to a small apothecary. Throughout, all this time I was able to experiment with almost any plant you could imagine". Monkshood rambled off proudly as the duo walked next to the craggy sculpted base of boulders which seemed to reach the dimming sky.

"Take that small patch of schistostega pennata over there". Monkshood pointed his hoof to a strange luminescent moss hiding in the shadow of one of the boulders. "With just a few ingredients, and a clear jar to store the mixture in. I can create a lantern made from only Biological components, and that would glow as bright as the brightest torch light".

"Oh!  You've just given me an idea for glowing wheat stalks!  I could make them glow green and it'd be really eerie!  Yes!"  Ceres was ecstatic at the idea, filing it away in her memory bank for later.

The constant abrupt and unpredictable motions of Ceres, Monkshood found rather unnerving. "I came on this farce of a trip to eke information out of her, but it feels like she only wants to test me. To see how much she can bend my bough until it snaps". This line of thought rather bothered Monkshood as he desired a sense of control.

Monkshood looked around the current landscape, and noticed a small pile of apples lying on the ground under a tree's looming shade. This sparked his curiosity. "You said that your plants could survive out here, but as both artists in our respective fields I'm sure we both have tasted the unnerving spectre of defeat with in are work. I wish to know if I can acquire some of the seeds of one of your failed studies, for my own personal research".

Once again it took Wish a moment to understand what had been said: Ceres always talked to her in such an unusual way...

Before she could answer though, she was gone.

"Oh, hey Pelate!" Wish waved was the Pegasus approached. "Come sit with us?"

She turned to answer Parso. Of course, what she had planned was the same as usual: to explore, regardless of the time or place. He didn't need to know that though.

"Well, probably not much. Maybe find out a little bit more about where we are and stuff." She said happily. "What about you?"

Ceres considered Monkshood's proposal for a moment.  Considering that she could get away with giving him a few seeds that weren't harmful, she conceeded.  "Sure, that wouldn't be a problem I think.  I might have a few in my bags at the cabin.  One of the projects I'm working on is candycane trees and so far all I can get is candy cane colored bushes.  Not sure how trees became bushes...."

Ceres scratched her head, deep in thought.  The hybrid she had used for this plant had been through several complex layers of breeding and so she had to figure out which part or parts had that effect and where to correct it.

It wasn't flying she was concerned about - it was falling.

She looked over the stallions wings uneasily - surely they couldn't carry both of them? There weren't too many Pegasi back home so she didn't know much about them.

"I don't know - I've never really flown before. Just kind of... well I fell off a barn once, that's about as close as I've gotten." She explained poorly. It would give her an excellent view but...
