Art Contest Section?

I have seen quite a few topics relating to simple; draw my character / make a new character contests, and I was wondering if anyone would be open to making a new section in Octavias' Hall just for art contests?

The poster of the topic would make up a simple prize, such as a drawing or story written in return, or something else and people will join in to see who wins. Honestly I think people would do it more for fun than for prizes, but I don't know. :P

Does anyone else like this idea? Or even making a simple tag to go before the topic name in the requests section would be nice. Any thoughts?

New sections usually open up after a large number of threads on a single topic begin to spread...so basically it comes out of necessity. And we wouldn't really have many "contests" going on for it to warrant it's own section. Perhaps in the future maybe...

But as it stands, I don't believe we need one as of yet ^_^

Yeah, I understand. But for now how about a new topic header in the requests section? Instead of 'Requests shop' or 'Request' how about 'Contest'. I think it would make it a lot easier to tell who is running a contest, and who wants a request done, and I don't think it would be too hard to program in.

You are correct, its not hard to add a tag for "contest" but that's not really up to me, rather the admins. Personally I don't see how it could be any big issue as it works for both sides...we dont clutter the forum with crap-tonnes of sections and we are able to seperate contests from other topics.... could work in theory

A 'Contest' prefix does sound rather interesting, but if it were to be implemented, it would be included in the discussion sections in addition to the art section, as the majority of 'contests' actually happen in Show Discussion and Sugarcube Corner. At the same time, I'm rather reluctant, simply because it would attempt to make a uniform way for all forums to have contests. That in of itself can be an uglier and less efficient way of organizing unique events like contests, which are usually created on the fly and inside their relevant section, and then pinned until they're finished, by the staff (should the contest in question be detailed, relevant and worth the specialized attention).

Between pinning for giving contests extra attention, and the natural tag feature allowing you to search for topics with that prefix or title, I don't think a prefix would be as useful an addition as it is on paper.

I do love the idea of promoting contests in general, as they are a good way to garnish participation from large amounts of members, both regulars and new members. But, I don't feel a section, nor a prefix, are effective ways of promoting them :)
