Cwanky 17,754 September 16, 2013 Share September 16, 2013 I think we understand at least to some degree what Alicorns can be. The status of alicorn seems to be something that's traditionally a unique promotion for those recognized for their feats and deeds, or via some otherwise unknown magic or power, perhaps what Sunset Shimmer was trying to accomplish. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna do leave a big question mark in this whole discussion as we know next to nothing about them with their lack of character development :comeatus:. There's also the whole potential Princess Skyla hypothetical, which while potentially very real, is in no way actually confirmed to be canon as of yet. What we can say is that from what we know of Twilight and Princess Cadence from The Crystal Heart Spell, we know that unicorns and pegasi are capable of ascension. (I'm not even gonna go into how this creates problematics with the existence of other races and alicorns being gods here and how there's lots of other possibilities the show hasn't touched upon yet. That's for another topic) For the sake of argument, despite the lack of male or Earth pony based alicorns, we're gonna throw the whole unicorn and female goddess master race theory out the window, namely because it seems disingenuous to what the show is striving for, or should be based upon their consistent themes thus far, teaching children and other viewers. Plus it reeks of damn Trollestia conspiracy which I think many of us can agree is best left to fanfics and parodies. So unless Hasbro and co decides to be incredibly stupid and suggest that Earth ponies are inherently inferior and incapable of anything but being lowly, which honestly after Magical Mystery Cure I wouldn't find that farfetched , I will assume that Earth ponies are capable of alicorn ascension along with male ponies. With those can of worms aside, and that barely scratches the surface of the Twilicorn fanbase divide, aside from the royalty and social aspects I think its worth looking into what Twilight becoming an alicorn means. Clearly, the status has some implication of power to it aside from the mere status, as Sunset Shimmer was eager and desperate to try and attain it. What this power implies we don't really know yet. It may be enhanced magic, or a special force to fight evil like a unique connection to the Elements of Harmony, or greater wisdom and empathy with others. Its important to note that Cadance and Twilight both had their abilities well developed before they ascended, which blurs this speculation even further. For all we know, if say alicorns can be born, there may be a few Prince Blueblood Alicorns out there . Speaking strictly about Twilight for a moment though, since her new alicorn form did give her the ability of flight, its safe to say she had some sort of transformation beyond just growing a pair of wings, acquiring perhaps some pegasus or unique magic that allows alicorns to fly or perhaps became more biologically similar to a pegasus. I happen to believe the former more likely than the latter, although Prince Shining Armor's ability to lift and throw Cadance with ease might be indicative of her former pegasus biology. What do you think "makes an alicorn?" Are they genetic, omnipotent goddesses, or something else altogether? Also... Sorry Hasbro but that thing is a far cry from Alicorn Twilight. If anything it resembles more of some mutated over glorified changeling hybrid.
Azura 1,107 September 16, 2013 Share September 16, 2013 This has been discussed a lot of times, but at the end of the day, Alicorns can be both born or transformed into one by another Alicorn, most likely Princess Celestia or Princess Luna. Speaking of which, Luna might just turn Trixie into an Alicorn and command her to kill Twilight. My Signature Shop!-=-=-=-=-Art Collection!-=-=-=-=-A Signature Tutorial! Also known as "Cloud Chaser".
