The 2nd Mass 28 October 10, 2013 Share October 10, 2013 I have been putting off making an oc because I don't know where to start. I think I can handle the personality traits on my own but the artistic part is terrifying me. I am not a great artist and I don't know if I should hand draw or use some kind of software. Any suggestions on what I should do?
NavelColt 22,881 October 10, 2013 Share October 10, 2013 Firstly, moved this to Creative Resources for you, as, since you're asking about specific art mediums in addition to general character creation, I feel it fits better there than in the general discussion section for fanbase talk :3 When I created my character, I started with a simple pony generator, and worked at him until I liked the way he looked. Getting what they'll look like (and being satisfied with it) is the first step. Don't even bother with Photohshop or making 'actual' art, even sketches if you don't have to, imo. Everyone hates the pony generators, but they do serve their purpose, which I find to be initial concept creation. Once that was done, I got to work on the profile by attacking the simple things. Explaining their appearance is a no-brainier for example, since you've already designed it at that point. Things like designing their cutie mark will come next. Doing that prior to trying to fuck around with their personality and backstory in bulk helps. That's how I did my OC, anyway. The cutie mark will help you with those two monstrous parts of the character later on.
Zygen 6,066 October 10, 2013 Share October 10, 2013 Well, if your not a super good artist i'd just use the pony creator found here http://generalzoi.deviantart.com/art/Pony-Creator-Full-Version-254295904 Offers a good bit of customization. Not the best thing ever, but its good for people who don't have the creativity or just art ability to make their own OC. Both of my oc's are made in it, due to being a kinda bleh artist, and not very creative ;p. Other then that its just up to you, just choose what you think looks good. one tip is when your choosing colors, don't use pure colors, try messing around with them, but don't make them to pure. Pure colors don't typically look that good in my opinion. Regardless its your so you can do whatever! Good luck! Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig!
