"I agree as well, we've all had a long couple of days, we should all get some rest."

Krein casted another healing spell on the unconscious unicorn.

"Yeah... Hopefully..."

Toormaarnax poked his side with his sharp tail.

"^*^ It seems your affections have changed. Very well, I will go and deal with the fires and volcanic activity..."

Toormaarnax flew up and began to snuff out the flames and breathe frost on the magma, cooling it to obsidian.

"So...Krein, would mind explaining the dragon and all those ponies who came to help us? Not that I mind the help or anything, but I'm just curious. Also, what is an Imperator? I heard the dragon mention it earlier and then Snow did before she passed out. I think we deserve an explanation, buddy."

"Indeed, I can't but feel like this deserves explaining. We certainly have the time."

Krein tilted his head in confusion.

"You guys seriously didn't listen to any of what the creepy tendril monster said? Or watch any of the scenes of my past life? It's words about them were true..."

He looked towards the dragon Toormaarnax.

"He's one of the elder dragons of the Imperator clan. Him and I defected from it together after... a voice spoke to us and convicted us on our actions. He went to go and try to persuade the Imperators to leave Discord's side, and I see he's managed to get a few of them off..."

[Victoria and Co. 782]

Enigma looked annoyed.

 

"You honestly don't remember me telling you? I was in my phoenix form when we fought that thing. I have little to no memory of anything that happens when I'm i that body and also I seem to have little to no control over myself as well. That's why I wasn't sure if the phoenix tears thing would work at all, I don't even know if it did!"

"Geez man, calm down. The Imperators are a group, if not army, of ponies trained by dragons to hone their skills. However, because of the dragons, they are taught to fight viciously and mercilessly. They go to battle to conquer land for themselves. The survivors? As it said, better off dead. We would kill the children to prevent them from growing up and rebelling against us. The grown ups were kept as slaves to work our land, build our cities, you know, all that stuff...."

Krein paused a bit to regain his composure.

"Anyway, yeah. Does that answer your question?"

Enigma settled himself, he needed to stop getting worked up over things. He took a deep breathe before he continued.

 

"Yeah, that answers all of my questions. Oh, and I'm sorry Krein, it's just... I don't enjoy talking about my lack of control of the phoenix me. I need to stop getting so flustered. On the other hoof, I can't even imagine what you must have gone through, I can understand those moments when you seem lost in thought for a split second now. You're wrestling with your past self, aren't you? Trying to stop the evil from rising again. And here I am, getting upset because I can't remember what I did as a bird!"

"Don't worry about it."

Krein looked at his strange cutie mark.

"I got this during my time with them. It's reminiscient of my control over flame, but also of my lust for power..."

[Victoria and Co. 782]

Enigma looked at his own cutie mark. He still was unsure of its origin and meaning. To him it just looked like a cryptic symbol, which is what it was for all he knew. Enigma looked up to the sky. The sun was just setting now, and the night would soon be upon them.

 

"I'm going to get some sleep Krein, you should too. We've had an eventful day. We should stay within shouting distance of one another in case something happens; we don't want a giant moth swooping down on one of us all alone now do we?"

"Nah, you go ahead. Those flames have given me a boost, and besides, I want to watch over her," he said pointing towards Snow.

Enigma nodded. He wouldn't argue with Krein, it was up to him after all. Let him watch her all night.

 

In the meantime, Enigma thought. I have some questions to ask myself... Let's see if I know the answers.

As Krein sat up taking watch, Storm came over and sat by him. "Hey Krein, even after all of today's insanity, I somehow couldn't sleep. I was too busy thinking about what you told us about your past. I had heard rumors of an army like the Imperators, but I thought they were all but extinct. Now that I've met you, I know its the truth. If what you said about the defection is true, there are still Imperators in Discord's ranks. How strong do you thing they really are? I'm honestly a little worried now....all these monsters, plus the Imperators? We're massively outnumbered. Do you really think we can accomplish our mission with our small force?"

Krein frowned at Storm's question.

"VERY strong. Plus the dragons.... Yes, I'd say things seem hopeless..."

Krein looked up at the starry sky in thought.

"But who's to say that others won't join our cause as well? Look at Toormaarnax and the large group of Imperators he managed to convince to leave Discord's side."

"I guess you're right, Krein. Besides, we can't give up anyway. The fate of the whole worlds is on our shoulders. We just have to try our hardest and make sure we at least get the Mane 6 out of Discord's clutches."

Krein began to shiver as he tried to produce a flame to warm himself; all that came out were embers. Toormaarnax flew towards him and picked him up, then breathing a large gout of fire on him.

"^*^ You should really watch yourself in his weather, Kreinbahthur. You know very well you don't last long in it," Toor said as he flew back to tend to the lava and flames.

"^*^ Too bad!"

He looked back towards Storm.

"Sorry about that, I'm going to tell him to start speaking English around you guys..."

Snow was slowly coming to. She blinked, opened her eyes. Her vision was fuzzy but she could see the shapes of the others around her.

"You're alive?" she asked in a raspy voice. "I didn't kill you?"

 

(BTW, she's back to normal now XD)

"No, you just sent a couple of Windigos back to Oblivion," Krein said happily as he went to go help her up.

[Mephala 2,633]

Snow stood up shakily. "I didn't go with them?" she asked, her eyes wide. "I wasn't sure if I'd be able to come back...but it was the only option." She stumbled but Krein helped her stand and she nodded at him with a smile.

"So what happened when I stopped?"

 

(She doesn't really remember what happened when she went insane so she doesn't remember Krein being all lovey dovey with her. BWAHAHA.)

"Other than you acting as if you were getting beat and rambling about killing some ponies, nothing."

Snow sighed and looked at the ground. "I guess I owe you all an explanation about my past, don't I?"

 

"I was born a Windigo, of course. My parents were the leaders of our culture, and the strongest. When I was born, there was celebration-I was to be the greatest most devastating Windigo to be born. As I started to grow up a little though, my parents started taking me out and showing me what we do. It was just pointless killing, with no substance.

This didn't bother me, of course-after all, we're spirits of ice and wind, and we don't care about others welfare. But I was fascinated by the ponies on Earth. Jealous, even. It was boring, being up in the clouds all the time. I wanted to stay on the ground, experience it.

But there was no way for me to leave. I couldn't just desert my people, and then there was the fact that I'm not a pony. I decided to stage it like an accident. During an attack on the Imperators-our sworn enemy-I "accidentally" fell through the clouds to the ground.

I used magic to alter my appearance, but I couldn't change it much. I was still pure white and my eyes were as black as my soul. But I was young and stupid, eager to run around and explore.

However, I didn't realize how hard appearance altering magic was, and I was half dead when two ponies found me. They never had children and were eager to raise me as their own.

They came up with a story as to why I was with them and named me Icy, a very stupid name to be sure.

However, they soon found out how...different I was. I was almost always silent and apathetic about things. They thought sending me to school would help and I...I...

 

Snow hid her head. "I'm sorry, I need a minute."

Krein hugged her with one of his wings.

"It seems we both have alot in common in the fact that we deserted our people, and the killing.... You don't have to go on..."

 

(I actually like how you brought the two civilizations together, and surprised!)

Snow was a bit surprised by the hug but she didn't object.

"No, it's cool, you deserve to know..."

"So I went to school and it was...it was probably one of the worst things in my life. My classmates hated me, and my teacher alienated me and picked on me all the time. Every day I would go home crying and my adopted parents...well, they did things to me...horrible things. Once they hurt me so bad I could barely walk. But I went on, thinking that it would get better.

It never did. It got even worse...one day we were having a campfire-it was supposed to teach us about the properties of flames-and one of my classmates pushed me into it. I had to go to the hospital. My parents didn't care, they were more concerned about the bill. When I got home my father threatened to kill me if I got in trouble once more, and I knew he meant it.

I never once complained during the abuse again. If I got hurt at school, I'd come home and I wouldn't say a word.

But one day a classmate of mine...she went too far. I had a pet rabbit that would come to school with me and she laughed and kicked it. I tried to stop her but she refused to and she killed him.

I couldn't help it...I completely snapped. I transformed into my true self and destroyed not only my classmates but the entire schoolhouse. Every single one of them.

I was terrified. I turned back and ran home to my house, covered in blood. My parents were so angry, and I had never been more afraid in my life. My father took a kitchen knife and stabbed me straight in the stomach and they beat me until I was nearly dead. I was screaming for them to stop but they wouldn't. They fled, afraid they'd get caught, and left me to die, and-

 

Snow broke of with a choking sob and looked down.

Krein nuzzled her mane in an attempt to calm her down.

"That's all in the past now. What's important is that you've changed, something Storm taught me during our fight with the monster. If it makes you feel any better, I destroyed an entire city after I defected from the Imperators..."
