Enigma nodded in agreement and went to pick up Krein. As he reached for him, he heard L in the back of his mind again.

 

If he's just been hit by some power-stifling spells, I could fix him up in a few seconds. If you're going for quiet and not obvious, I'm a ghost mare would draw considerably much less attention than a phoenix.

 

Enigma nodded again, that was a better idea. It would take less time and would be much less 'noisy'.

 

"Krein, change of plans, I'd like you to meet L"

 

L appeared next to Enigma with a small puff of dark smoke. L bowed her head when she saw the look of confusion on Krein's face..

 

"Hello there," she said with a sweet smile. "I am L, one of Enigma's inner voices. Don't look so confused, you see me by the same magic that let's you see Enigma's false wings."

 

L looked Krein over and approached him. She touched her nose to the top of his horn and mutter a few words. She stepped back after about five seconds to admire he work. Suddenly a look of worry appeared over the ghostly unicorn's smile.

 

"Wait, who did you say your father was?"

Krein immediately felt a lot better after the ghostly mare said her magic words. He got up, but looked down in sadness at her question.

"... Why do you want to know?"

Outside, the group was slowly but surely making there way towards the prison where they had been told Krein was likely being held with the help of the ex-Imperators that had come to their aid. Storm had just knocked aside a smaller dragon when he noticed that Enigma was missing. "Hey have any of you guys seen Enigma? I just now noticed he was gone. I hope he went ahead of us to get Krein, because they sooner we have Krein, the sooner we can get out of this mess."

"Nevermind that," L still had a look of worry on her face but she continued anyway. "Now you two need to get out of here before it gets too late."

 

L slowly faded away and Enigma looked at Krein.

 

"You heard her, let's get out of here," Enigma turned around. "Oh, wait, what about Snow and her friend..?"

"Her friend? No idea," Krein said as he headed out of the dungeon. He walked outside to the area where the battle was raging on.

"Well Toormaarnax, you saved the day again!" he said as he looked around and saw the good Imperators fighting the soldiers of Alcron. He looked up into the air.

"Ah, so now we have two Windigos! Say, that other one looks familiar..."

Krein's expression turned to one of concern. He could feel the heat emanating from around the two.

"That's not right.... Oh no... If they're fighting who I think they are, then they'll most likely be dead," Krein said as he spread his wings.

He turned towards Enigma.

"I'm going to need backup if I'm to help them fight Sahkoorjun," he said as he almost began to cry when he mentioned his father's name.

"Also, why did that mare ask who my father was?" he asked as he flew into the air.

Enigma jumped into the air beside Krein, his own false wings expanding behind him.

 

"I have no idea," Enigma said with a shrug. "She hasn't mentioned anything to me about it yet. I honestly don't even know who she is. I went to catch my breath in a grove when suddenly, she just appeared. She told me where you guys where being taken then later, when I was on my way here, told me that she was one of my 'inner voices' which I suppose is some kind of second conscience or something. She apparently gains physical form from my powers, but has a seperate thoughts and memories..."

Eiraia had felt the heat pass through her, but it would take much more than that to faze her. She was the Windigo princess, after all-the most powerful of her kind.

She carefully slipped out of Sneig's hooves and smiled at him before she let out a loud screech.

From the clouds burst hordes of Windigos. They swarmed the Imperators, dissolving into mist before they could be struck and then materializing behind them to blast them with ice and wind.

 

(NOTE: Windigo's are not fully solid beings, hence the reason Snow was able to get through the bars when she turned into Eiraia.)

Just as Krein and Enigma are preparing to fight, Storm arrives and settles into a battle stance next to them. "Hey guys, hope I haven't missed anything good. Good to see you safe Krein. So...who are we going up against that's got you looking so serious?"

"Sahkoorjun, the Phantom King of Summer.... My father," Krein said as he flew into the sky. He saw the Imperators get attacked by a swarm of Windigos.

<Let's hope he doesn't bring out that other shout we created...>

 

-"You're only making it worse for yourself windigo! Yol (Fire) Sah (Phantom) Konahrik (Warrior)!!!!"

A portal opened as the voice of Krein's father called forth a unit of flaming spirits. "^*^ Attack!"-

 

Krein couldn't see his father at all.

<He must still be ethereal... Ok then, time to look for him!>

"Laas," whispered Krein as his eyes began to glow bright green. He scouted the skies, and caught the faint aura of his father in the clouds. He casted an ethereal sword and flew towards him and attacked.

 

-"^*^ You dare challenge me boy?!"

Sahkoorjun angrily rushed at Krein and tackled him. He then created a ball of magma, hardened it, and smashed it against Krein's side...-

Eiraia noticed the invisible Imperators fight change and she stopped for a moment, blasting down the shadow warriors with ease.

*Let's kill those Imperators...they're both powerful. We'd be getting rid of two annoying birds with a single stone!* whispered Sneig to Eiraia with a cold smirk.

Eiraia hesitated. The other Imperator wasn't attacking them, it was attacking their assailant.

*I see no reason to harm the other,* she said indifferently. There was something tugging in her gut that said he was important somehow.

*What?* Sneig exclaimed, his eyes narrowed in hatred. *We are NOT letting that one go!* He lunged towards Krein.

*Stop!* commanded Eiraia, but he only turned to her for a moment.

There was something even colder than hatred in his eyes. Something that went deeper than rivalry.

*I said I'm not letting him go, Eira,* he said a little more softly, and he embraced her before flying away.

*STOP!* She couldn't follow him as she was swallowed in a sea of Imperators, but she watched helplessly as he darted away.

 

Sneig floated next to Krein and whispered so only he could hear.

You've taken enough from our people...you are not taking the one thing that matters to me!

He blasted him with and icy beam, disregarding the other Imperator.

Krein shoved his father off and casted his evil aura. It caused Sneig to back off a little as the heat protected him from his beam.

 

"No? I think I'm up for a little windigo blood!! I hate to do this to you...."

Krein kicked Sneig and sent him flying backwards.

"Ahraan (Wound) Frul (Temporary) Slen (Flesh)!!!"

 

Sneig screeched in pain as a red energy washed over him. His body took on a more corporeal form as he fell to the ground.

"Like it? It gives you ice spirits a more corporeal body!" Krein said as he blasted him with flame from his aura.

Eiraia had managed to make most of the party attacking her flee and she flew over to Sneig, carefully supporting his head as she glared at Krein.

*Are you okay?* she asked, speaking in her own tongue as she didn't want the other to listen in.

Sneig coughed a little, weakly. His frame was flickering.

*Come home,* he whispered, and his eyes started to glaze over a bit. *Do you promise me you'll come home?*

Eiraia looked at the dying Windigo in horror. *No! No, you won't die!* she said angrily, but even as she began to cast the healing spell she knew it was useless. He had taken too much damage.

Sneig sighed and suddenly kissed her. *Promise me...* he whispered.

Eiraia looked at him in horror. *I...I promise.*

Sneig smiled wistfully at her. *Never thought I'd get to finally kiss you...* he admitted. His eyes unfocused and he died simply.

She sat there, holding the body in her arms, shaking him. *SNEIG! Sneig, wake up! Wake up!*

 

(Well Krein, you just killed her only Windigo friend. *applause*)

Enigma approached the fallen Windigo. He looked at Snow.

 

We might be able to heal him you know, L said into his mind.

 

"I could try and bring him back for you, if you want..." Enigma said slowly to Windigo-Snow.

(Ok whatever xD. The fall and blast killed him!)

 

Krein stood there shocked at the fact that the windigo had died, but more so that he had kissed Snow/Eiraia. Before he could apologize, Krein's father materialized.

 

-"^*^ Well done! Now kill the other one!"-

 

Krein looked at his father, then back to Snow.

 

"^*^ I never meant to do it," Krein said sadly.

 

-"^*^ I knew it was too good to be true... Fine then, I will!"-

 

Sahkoorjun prepared to use the same shout on Eiraia, but was blasted out of the way by Krein's Unrelenting Force shout.

 

-"Fine then! First you, then her!!"-

 

He flew at Krein and Sliced at him with an obsidian blade....

"Mind if I cut in, Krein?" Storm asks as he slams into Sahkoorjun from below, already wearing his Lightning Shroud, which launches the Imperator leader higher into the sky. He vanishes for a second, then appears above the flying pony, and charging all of his Shroud into his hooves, Thunder Bucks Sah back towards Krein and yells, "That's for hurting my friends, you draconian excuse for a pony!" Enigma sat staring at Sahkoorjun. The fool wasn't even acknowledging him, just letting Enigma slowly study him from a few feet away. Enigma was almost done too, just a few more seconds and he'd find himself able to turn into the fierce alicorn, maybe even take him down. Enigma heard L begin to speak up in the back of his head.

 

Stop it Enigma, you need to get away from him. It is imperative that he doesn't see you. Rally your friends and flee. I know that might not sound like the best plan but it's what is necessary. Lieutenant and I have been speaking, we both agree that you need to get out of here.

 

Care to tell me why you want me to abandon my team? Enigma responded clearly annoyed.The only reason I'm here is to save them!

 

We... we can't say just yet, Enigma, Lieutenant replied.

 

Well if you can't be bothered to tell me, Enigma thought angrily. I won't be bothered to listen.

 

Enigma walked towards Sahkoorjun, ignoring the advice from L and Lieutenant, now that his examination was complete. He was going to fight fire with fire.

(Too bad you only copied a clone !)

 

The Imperator alicorn glared at Enigma and smiled evily as a second walked up beside him. The one Enigma had studied turned into a puff of smoke and rested on Sahkoorjun.

 

-"You should know, where there is smoke, there is fire! I watched you turn into that creature, don't think I'm stupid enough to let my gaurd down when one such as you is around!"-

 

He blasted Enigma with a powerful beam of fire, sending him flying backwards and dazing him. The smoky version of the Imperator came from his body and flew through him, suffocating him with intolerable heat. It returned to him and he slowly faced Krein.

 

-"^*^You, we will end this now!-

 

He flew towards Krein as his son flew towards him also. They clashed viciously in the air, flashes of fire bursting with each hit. Krein withdrew his fiery aura, knowing that it would only make his father stronger. He formed an obsidian rock and crashed it into the Imperator leader's side.

 

-"^*^ You've grown stronger boy, but do you honestly think you can surpass me?" The glided towards him with a bladed wing, lacerating the side of his son's body.-

 

Krein ignored the pain as he tried to cast a healing spell on himself, only to be tackled and smashed into the ground. He knocked Sahkoorjun off with a strike with one of his wings and then casted an illusion spell to mirror himself.

 

-"^*^ Hiding behind that old trick? Do you not remember I was the one who taught you that? Laas (Life)!"

His eyes glew bright green as he searched for and found Krein. He flew towards him, only to be knocked backwards by Unrelenting Force...-

Enigma flew out of the fire, a phoenix in its natural state. As he soared into the air he couldn't help but let loose a chuckle. It would seem that no one had guessed his true plan yet and Enigma found this immensely amusing.

 

It's a wonder, Enigma thought. How such a simple plan can really be so effective.

 

It's true it was a disappointment to not have gained the true Sahkoorjun's form, but none the less, his plan was still running smoothly.

 

We told you should have gotten away, L mocked. How did you far for such a poorly executed trick like that?

 

Enigma ignored L's comment as he continued to fly higher and higher.

 

They'll be here any second, Lieutenant thought.

 

Enigma looked around. From his vantage point, he was willing to agree with Lieutenant, his forces were gathering quite well outside the city. It would only be a matter of moments before the attack was staged.

Kaaljotkein watched angrily as he saw the phoenix fly up. He noticed it looked outside the city and flew up in an ethereal state to avoid being spotted. He saw Enigma's forces and let out a roar. A large group of dragons answered his call by gathering behind him and awaiting his orders.

"^*^ Attack the ones outside this city! Use all your power, all your fury, and all your Thu'um!!!"

The dragons let out a battle roar as they headed towards the forces and began to attack.

Enigma burst out into laughter. He saw the dragons rushing towards the outskirts, clearly attempting to attack his forces, but they wouldn't find anypony there.

 

Do they really still not see it? L asked, a tone of amusement in her own voice.

 

Maybe we should tell them, you know, to give them a fighting chance? Lieutenant said jokingly.

The dragons circled the area as they prepared to strike. They found nothing in the area, however.

"^*^ Is this some kind of joke?!" roared a dragon angrily.

Kaal materialized into his normal state and could no longer see what he had seen before.

"^*^ No! Curse this shout, whatever I saw I only saw because of my current affinity with the ethereal! How Sahkoorjun ever mastered this shout, I'll never know...." Kaal growled as he realized what was happening. He isssued the order for the dragons to retreat...

The battle between Krein and Sah raged endlessly as they fought to destroy each other. They hovered in the air, panting from the energy they had exerted in battling each other.

 

"^*^ It doesn't need to be this way.... daddy..." Krein said sadly.

 

"^*^ Shut your mouth, and fight like an Imperator!" Sah said, a little confused at Krein's words. He prepared to charge with full force...

Eiraia was being ignored on the ground as she sat staring at the body in her hooves.

There was a crackling sound from the sky. Eiraia put Sneig down and stood up carefully. A group of Imperators rushed to attack her but were blinded by the light she exuded.

The sky made another cracking sound and split open to reveal black clouds. A fierce wind began to blow and hail the size of golf balls fell in crazy droves.

She looked straight at Krein. You killed him. For this we will never forgive you.

And that was when there was an explosion.

Krein dodged his father's attack as he increased the intesity of his aura when he cast it again.

 

"Snowfell, in case you didn't notice, he attacked me first! That he died from my retaliation was never meant to happen!!"

 

Krein's father crashed into Eiraia as the explosion happened...

Out of the explosion rose a dome similar to that of the one she had earlier created. However, this one was much larger and colder, spreading quickly and freezing buildings. Some of the Imperators ran away to get warm elsewhere as the dome continued to widen.

"Snowfell" no longer exists, said Eiraia. You killed her-my-only true friend!

Krein's father hit her but it didn't faze her at all. She didn't move as the blizzard got bigger inside their icy prison,

YOU KILLED HIM! NONE OF YOU WILL LEAVE THIS PLACE!

The walls hardened, making a barrier to the outside world.

YOU WILL ALL PAY!

The chunks of hail were bigger and more Windigos came through the clouds. A few picked up Sneig's body and returned to the hole in the sky.

"Snow! You have to stop this! This isn't you, you're not a killer! Do you really want to have the lives of those innocent ponies we saved from the cells on your conscience? I'm sure Krein is being honest, the fact that your friend died was an accident! So please, just stop this blizzard before you kill everypony here! We're your friends too, and we don't want you to stain your hooves with the blood of the innocent!" Storm shouted to the raging Windigo Princess from as close to her as he dared to get.
