Sterling was now feeling his heart beat faster and faster. Corona's wings were feeling smoother and smoother the more he touched them. He was just beginning to touch Corona's body when he suddenly jumped at an adult voice. He quickly got up and heard Corona's mother saying that he should be heading home because it was approaching 9pm. Sterling looked back at Corona's mom with disappointment and then to Corona. He spoke shyly,

 

"Corona... this... this was a wonderful night... I... I hope we... have more... nights like this..." Sterling found himself uttering his sentences nervously. He could feel his heart racing faster, excited that he was able to experience so much physical contact with Corona so early in their friendship... he never felt such an experience in his life, and his sudden need to go home drove his desire for them even further.

Corona inwardly sighed when she heard her mother call to them telling them how late it was getting. Corona blushed deeply as Sterling talked about how much fun he'd had tonight. "I really enjoyed tonight as well Sterling. I hope we get to have more nights like this too it was something very special to me." Corona picked Sterling up and flew him down to the ground, setting him gently down on the grass in the front yard. Corona looked to Sterling with gentle and caring eyes before suddenly embracing him in a hug. "Thank you Sterling you're my first real friend I've ever had, I'll trust you no matter what." Corona pulled away blushing deeply her cheeks a deep shade of red, it was sudden but her heart had finally slowed down enough to not feel like it was jumping out of her chest.

Sterling got on Corona's back after he mom told him it was time to go home. He felt the air flowing through his mane once more as Corona flew him to the front lawn. He eventually got off after Corona landed, but he gave out a huge sigh. He didn't want to leave... he wanted to keep the night going... forever... Suddenly, Corona gave him a very tight hug. Something that he certainly wasn't expecting. He could feel his body being squeezed by Corona's loving embrace, but he didn't acre. He hugged back with passion, feeling his heart race even faster than before and sweat beginning to accumulate as his nerves filled his soul. He hugged for as long as he could before he let go. 

 

After the hug, he heard even more kind words from Corona that said he was her first true friend and that she would always trust him. Sterling gave out an excited smile and nod before he replied sheepishly,

 

"Well Corona... the same goes for me too.. You've... you've been my best friend... in my whole life..." It was that moment that Sterling realized that he had to go...

 

"Well Corona... I... I have to get going now... I'll... I'll see you tomorrow at school?" Sterling asked with a light smile on his face, hiding the fact that his heart was still racing as he waited for her response...

"Y...yeah I'll be at school tomorrow, especially since it's after school sign up day." Corona smiled and waved a hoof as she watched Sterling start towards home. When he was out of sight she flew up to her room, landing on her back gently on her bed letting out a joyous sigh. Corona was in heaven, she couldn't believe that things with Sterling were going this way after just the first day of school. She had a crush on somepony, her first crush, and it was with somepony that was nice to her as well.

 

Flower was smiling and watching Corona from her door silently before she trotted downstairs to meet her husband Feather in the living room. "Well dear how did it go?" Feather asked receiving a joyful smile as she sat down next to her husband. "I think everything will be just fine between them dear. She's got a crush on him and he's really sweet to her, I personally hope he comes back really soon. This is the happiest I've seen Corona in a long time Feather, she deserves this."

Sterling arrived home after a walk through the neighbourhood precisely at 9:00pm. He rang the bells and his parents gave him a warm smile before they let him enter. His parents then asked excitedly about Sterling's meeting with Corona, to which Sterling replied happily,

 

"Oh mom, dad! I had such a grand time with Corona! She showed me her talent when she flew through the skies, she showed me her room which was filled with Wonderbolt posters, and we even spent some time looking out at star from her roof!" When his parents heard about Sterling's stargazing experience, they opened their mouths in surprise.

 

"Oh Sterling! You were stargazing from the roof?! Oh my word Sterling! Isn't that dangerous?!" Bubble Gum responded with fear, with Front Page echoing the same fears.

 

"Yeah mom! Corona had a blanket and we sat on top of the roof, so we weren't going to slide off!" Sterling replied with a chuckle. Their parents gave a sigh of relief before they replied,

 

"Well Sterling. Don't scare us like that ever again ok? Other than that, we're very happy that you and Corona enjoyed yourselves a lot tonight. I hope that you two will learn to respect each other and grow deeper in your friendship..." Sterling then gave out an excited nod before he yawned. He then said his good nights to them before he trotted up the stairs and entered his room...

Corona got up quickly before heading to her desk and pulling out a piece of paper and a quill. Corona began writing out a letter to Princess Luna, telling her about the events of the night.

 

Dear Luna,

I had the most wonderful time tonight with my new friend Sterling Crimson. He came over just to see my special talent, noponies ever been that interested in me before. He was so amazed by my talent that he was speechless, I wouldn't have found it without your help Princess. Anyway after that I took him inside and showed him my room and where I sit and do my sketching. He told me his dream is to help other ponies with ailments and community care, that's why he's so big into Biology and science. I didn't even tell you the best part yet Luna, we went onto the roof and stargazed. Well actually that's not the best part, the best part was that we kinda cuddled. I know it might seem odd right after just meeting and all but I have a big crush on him. He's cute, kind, and he thinks I'm pretty too. Anyway I hope to hear from you or see you soon, I know your royal duties keep you very busy but I'll always be your BFF.

With that Corona pulled out the same powder as before and with another feather summoned Dagger Wing who took the note to Princess Luna. Corona crawled into bed totally whipped and passed out thinking of tomorrow and getting to see Sterling again.

Sterling was now sitting on his bed, reflecting on everything that just transpired over the past day. He was feeling far too giddy to think much about the negative things that happened, including Ruby and Diamond. As he spoke to himself, he continually daydreamed about Corona's beauty...

 

"Oh Corona... you're such a wonderful friend to start off with here! If only I could spend more time with you during the school day! We could do all sorts of stuff! Watch you play your Wingball, play on the piano to woo you... Ohh... If only the other ponies stopped making fun of us... we would be the envy of the school.. persevering through all the hate and indifference and showing the whole school that friendship and love triumphs all...

 

And how could I forget me touching you... you, Corona, felt so soft... so loving... you were so comforting when I laid beside you... if only we could do that more often... Oh Corona... oh Corona..." And that became Sterling's last words as he dozed off to sleep...

Corona woke up early the next day slowly getting out of bed and looking at herself in the mirror. An ear piercing scream could be heard through the house when Corona saw how messy her mane was. After a quick shower and putting her mane up into a pony tail she grabbed her saddlebag and quickly left for school. Corona got there with plenty of time to spare and flew up into a nearby tree and pulled out her sketchbook and began on a new picture. She had just started working on the picture when a familiar voice caught her ears. "Hey there Corona what are you doing up there, shouldn't you be getting in line for all the classes you want to take?" It was none other than Star Shine the sophomore she met the first day of school. "It'll be ok I'm only applying to one after school club today and I'll be there in time to sign up for it. Besides I'm just waiting for somepony else right now."

Sterling awoke to prepare for school too. He had a wonderful night of rest after a very eventful first day of school. He got up with a smile and quickly prepared himself for school. He rushed down the stairs and quickly ate his breakfast. He was rushing through his routine so quickly that his parents were chuckling when they awoke 15 minutes later,

 

"Sterling... it's only 8:00 am... Why are you in such a rush son?" Front Page asked with a smile on his face.

 

"Dad... I need to get to school early so I can sign up for the biology club and the Hoofstomp Orchestra." Sterling replied with a smile of his own.

 

"Well dear... don't hurt yourself preparing then! Don't let your excitement overtake you!" Bubble Gum responded with a giggle. After Sterling finished his routine, Sterling rushed away to school, waving to his parents and shouting his goodbyes...

Corona continued working on her new sketch, it was a drawing of Sterling that she was doing. "What do you plan to sign up for Star? I bet you've got all sorts of talents." Corona smiled putting her sketchpad away, she knew Sterling would be here eventually and she didn't want him to catch a glimpse of the sketch. "Well Corona I plan to signing up for a caretaker position, I'm really into taking care of little fillies and colts." Corona's ears perked up after hearing Star say that she wanted to be a caretaker. Star waved goodbye for the moment and headed inside to go sign up. Now all she wanted was Sterling to show up so that they could go get signed up together.

Sterling was now at Hoofstomp High, ready for his second day of the school year, the day when everypony in the school was to sign up for a club. He entered the campus as one of the first ponies to arrive, and who else did he see than Corona? He quickly found her looking for a club to sign up in. He ran towards her and shouted to her as well,

 

"Corona! Corona! Corona!"

It was going to be a new day of school for Pink Heart. She was excited about seeing Sterling today and she too got to school early after completing a very cheery routine. She quickly rushed to school, but she was too late... Sterling already arrived before her, and he was running towards another mare... That left her deeply saddened. What little chance for her to chat with Sterling was already gone... What was she to do now but to sign up for her own clubs alone...

Diamond Glitter wanted to get it all done quickly. Signing up for clubs... Something she didn't really want to do, especially since there wasn't many clubs to sign up for in the first place... The only "club" she found any interest in was the student senate. She wanted to run for Student Senate so she could have some leeway in proposing new rules for Hoofstomp High... so as she arrived at school with her blue mane perfectly tidied and her cyan body smelling of attractive perfumes, she quickly rushed towards the banners where Student Senate sign ups could be made... She would have to start a convincing campaign to get there... but she was willing to take that extra mile to make Corona suffer...

Erlen wasn't looking forward to school... He arrived with a negative outlook, worried that the other students would poke fun at him again for his clumsy actions... he really didn't want to sign up for any clubs, but the school rules stated that he had to sign up for at least one... so he opted to sign up for the Biology and chess clubs since they offered hobbies of interest to him... When he arrived... all he could see was large crowds of ponies gathering to make their choices for all the clubs they wanted to be involved with...

Corona turned around to see Sterling running up to her, stopping in her tracks she gave a warm friendly smile and waved with her wing. She was very excited to see Sterling again even though she knew it wouldn't be for long. Today was going to be a different school day for her, with her signing up for the Feather Falcons she'd be missing all her classes to go to the tryouts. "Hey Sterling! Over here, let's go sign up together ok." Corona wanted to spend as much of the short time she knew she'd have with him, after all she was crushing on him big time now.

Sterling rushed to Corona's side, excited to be signing up for clubs with her. He too was with his crush now, and he wanted to spend as many moments with her as possible. He quickly trotted to the orchestra section where auditions were going to be held. He signed his name quickly as a violinist before he rejoined Corona as she searched for the sign-up sheet for her clubs...

Erlen trotted around the school, wondering where the chess club was, when all of a sudden, he made yet another bump. This time, it was through no fault his own, and it was Pink Heart who accidentally collided with him searching frantically for the orchestra club and Sterling. Pink Heart fell with a thud before Erlen took his hooves and picked her up. After Pink shrugged the dirt off her body, she looked at Erlen with a smile.

 

"Thanks. Sorry for colliding you like that. My frantic self was looking for the orchestra club and a certain crimson pony.. you seen either one?" Erlen looked at Pink Heart and giggled inwardly at her giddy nature. He replied sheepishly and with a nearly dazed look,

 

"It's... it's alright... the orchestra club's to my right... and the crimson pony... is he a unicorn by any chance?"

 

"Yeah he is! You know him?!" Pink Heart gave out a cheery giggle after saying "him".

 

"I... I accidentally bumped him yesterday... like you did with me... I'm not sure where he went." Erlen composed himself by now, but the thought of Pink's cuteness was beginning to grow... Pink Heart replied with a giggle when Erlen spoke in a trance-like state, replying with a thanks before she trotted off towards the orchestra section. The pony looked nice enough she thought, any maybe she could befriend him...

Corona scurried through the maddening amount of ponies in the school that were signing up for clubs. Finally after what was only 10 mins of searching but felt like hours Corona and Sterling managed to find the Wingball sign up sheet and there were only two slots left. Corona reached for the paper only to have her hoof swatted away by a jet black pegasus' wing who grabbed the pen and signed it before her. After signing it he stared at Corona his red eyes locked with hers, his blood red mane and tail flowed perfectly. "Hmph a runt like you doesn't deserve to sign up for this, besides who says a mare's fit to play Wingball anyway." Corona glared at the stallion before he trotted away, it only gave Corona more incentive to join besides he didn't think she could do it, well she'd show him one way or another. "Oh just you wait you big meanie I'm one of the best fliers around and been practicing for this all my life." Corona huffed puffing out her cheeks before scribbling her name on the paper.

 

 

Ruby had entered the school later than everypony else cause she knew she could. When she got to the cheerleader sign ups they were already filled. Raising an eyebrow she called to the coach. "Excuse me coach but my slot's been taken as lead cheerleader." The coach tried to explain things to Ruby who'd have none of it and a wicked grin came over her. "You do realize who my parents are coach all I have to do is send a scroll and well let's just say that things wont end well." The teacher started to sweat before crossing out the leads name and putting Ruby's name down instead. Ruby smiled, walking away from the coach knowing that she'd be the star of the cheer leading team.

 

Star finished signing up for Home-etch and the caretaker position and overheard Ruby's conversation with the coach. The next thing she saw was the coach explaining to the poor student who got cut why she wasn't on the squad. Star watched in horror as the freshman left in tears. "Ruby that wasn't fair, if you wanted the spot you should've gotten here sooner to claim it!" Ruby just glared at Star with evil intent before simply huffing and walking past, but making sure to whip Star in the face with her tail as she passed. A few teachers saw what happened but did nothing to stop Ruby or punish her leaving Star with a red sore on cheek.

Sterling saw all that had just happened between Corona and the very mean stallion. Sterling shook his head in disbelief and breathed a sigh of relief when Corona showed that she wasn't going to go down easily by signing up anyway. He gave Corona a warm, confident smile as he spoke after the incident,

 

"Good on you for signing up anyway. Show them who's boss!" Sterling made sure his words were as encouraging and comforting as possible, clearly wanting Corona to succeed in Hoofstomp High...

Diamond Glitter finally found the Student Senate area. She quickly signed herself up as a running member for Student Senate, hoping that she would finally place her political wit and rhetoric to the test and succeed. Afterwards, she rushed to her first class of the day, realizing that she was almost late for Equestrian Media class...

Corona smiled, satisfied with how she handled the situation and with Sterling's encouragement it made her feel even better. "Thanks Sterling but unfortunately this is where we say goodbye for the school day. I'll have to report to the practice field next to show of for the tryouts." Corona kicked at the ground with her hooves. She didn't want to leave Sterling but she knew that they wouldn't wait for her to spend the day with him. Sure enough only moments later came the call over the intercom, "Would all student's trying out for the Feather Falcons please report to the practice field right away please." Corona looked at Sterling with a saddened face. She really wanted to stay with him but couldn't, so she did the next best thing. Corona hugged Sterling tightly and quickly before flying outside and towards the field for tryouts.

Sterling looked at Corona sadly too. He wanted to see Corona in class, but it looked like Corona was going to miss the rest of the school day because of tryouts. Before he could respond to her, Sterling was clutched tightly by Corona's embrace, loving every moment of it. After she let go, Sterling was left to walk over to the biology club sign-up sheet and join...

 

He trotted to his left and found the club section empty. It wasn't much surprise. Not many ponies were very scientific in the first place, but he did see a familiar looking stallion trying to sign up... 

 

"Hey! Are you joining the biology club?" Sterling called out to the green stallion with a wave. Erlen just realized that it was the same pony he tripped on accidentally. And that he was probably the pony Pink Heart was searching for... He sounded like a nice stallion despite the fears he harboured. So he replied nervously and cautiously,

 

"Umm... yes... I am. Why?" Sterling noticed the nervousness emanating from the stallion's body, and Sterling replied calmly, hoping that the two could be friends,

 

"Well... I'm joining the biology club too! I'm Sterling by the way. What's yours?" Erlen noticed a tinge of kindness from Sterling, and he began to smile in response. He put his head up slightly and replied with more confidence,

 

"I'm Erlen. Erlen Meyer. And it looks like most of the biology students already signed up, since there's already 10 names here. I'm more of a chemistry person, but I do know that a lot of biology is built in chemistry!" Sterling chuckled, knowing that his statement was true and thoughtful. He shook hooves with Erlen to begin their friendship, and Sterling then signed his name on the green sign-up sheet...

Corona headed outside to the field and got in line for the tryouts, She saw a long line of Stallions some tough and some looking like they would be better suited to be in chess club. There was one thing Corona noticed more than anything and that was the the fact that she was the only female in the group. Out of the sky came the coach for the new team, she'd been recruited when she requested it during the off season. Corona's jaw dropped when she saw Lightening Dust land on the ground in front of the hopeful ponies. "All right you maggots no introductions! You there get into the sky and show me what you can do!" A brown stallion quickly took to the sky and started doing tricks to show off what they had to offer. One by one Lightening called each student up until it was Corona's turn, once in the air Corona started doing her routine that she had planned all along for this event. Doing loops and corkscrews in the air before making a dive bomb for the ground pulling up just before she hit and landing perfectly on her hooves leaving Lightening Dust slack jawed for a few moments.

After Sterling signed his name on the sign-up sheet, Sterling decided to begin a small chat with Erlen before math class started. 

 

"So Erlen... what are you planning to do with your love for chemistry?" Asked Sterling with intrigue as he began trotting.

"Well I want to be involved with pharmaceuticals." Erlen nodded confidently in reply.

"Pharma... ceutiwhat?" Asked Sterling with confusion, struggling to say the word properly.

"Pharmaceuticals. It's where you get to test chemicals and develop medicines and drugs that can help ponies like you and me! It sounds like a really cool industry!" Beamed Erlen in reply.

"Ohh ok... that sounds really cool! As for me though, I love everything to do with biology and ponies, and that's why I want to be a doctor!" Spoke Sterling happily as he trotted closer to Math class. He could hear other ponies laughing at Erlen's looks, but neither Erlen or Sterling noticed since they were immersed in their conversation.

"It'll be really hard to get into medical school. You'll need amazing grades, starting here!" Erlen advised in reply. Sterling gave a nod just as they finally reached math class.

 

Sterling and Erlen then said their goodbyes as Sterling entered math, while Erlen entered Chemistry to start their respective days...

Corona smiled as she trotted back into her spot in line she was quite proud of herself and was showing it. Next up was the one pony who would probably give her the biggest problem, it was none other than the jet black stallion with the blood red mane from earlier. "Ok Shadow Fire you're up next." Shadow walked past Corona snapping his tail at her before doing his routine as well, almost mimicking Corona's flight to the letter. Lightening raised an eyebrow at how he did the routine, once they everypony had done their run Lightening dismissed the group while she went to make her choices for the team.

 

Shadow trotted up to Corona and gave a cheeky smile, "You think you can outshine me shrimp, then you're sadly mistaken." Corona glared at Shadow, she didn't like him one bit and was wanting to shut him up. For a pony like her this kind of feeling wasn't normal to her, but there was something about him that just made her blood boil. "Tell you what shrimp, if you can beat me in a race through the forest and around the school I'll submit and say you're the best." Corona looked ahead and saw the forest, it was matted with branches that would put even the wonderbolts to the test, but Corona wasn't going to be pushed around on this one. "You're on Shadow!"

While Sterling was getting ready for math class, Pink Heart was getting ready for a class at the visual arts. She loved this class, and her first day at it was great, with lots of free time to sketch and to paint to show her abilities. Her teacher, Misty White, was very impressed with her landscape drawings, and that made her very gleeful. 

 

On this day though, Pink Heart was preoccupied with Sterling. Today's class was about the history of art, but her mind was constantly thinking about the mare Sterling was with. She probably got to him first, and she couldn't remove the regret on her face after a poor first encounter at music class. She also began to doodle Sterling on her paper, luckily without any observation from her teacher or her classmates...

Corona stepped up to the starting line for the race with Shadow. A look of determination was present on her face, while Shadow was just confident that he would beat her with ease. One stallion pulled out a handkerchief and raised it up in the air, he quickly dropped it and in a flash both Corona and Shadow were gone. Shadow looked back to see nothing behind him, letting out a chuckle until his eyes bugged out in shock at seeing Corona right next to him keeping pace before entering the woods. Corona disappeared from Shadow's sight and visa versa, Corona bobbed and weaved through the forest doing spins, rotations, and all sorts of other moves to avoid hitting the trees. Eventually they finally made their way out of the forest and made a B-Line towards the school. Corona was keeping pace with Shadow easily up until they were headed towards the school. That's when Corona used her size and weight to her advantage, with a huge flap from her wings she took off past Shadow. Racing past the teachers lounge and the windows of the classes, Corona knew she was probably passing by Sterling's class as well. Corona looked back to see Shadow racing towards her and catching up really fast, but he wasn't fast enough as she skidded to a halt just as she passed the finish line.

Sterling's math class proceeded normally, but he couldn't get his mind off Corona. He was working hard on listening to the teacher as he in his dress talked further about basic algebra and eventually beginning with quadratic functions, but it was hard to do so. As the math class progressed, Sterling suddenly noticed a familiar pony out the window... it was Corona with her grey body and colourful mane! Sterling pinched his eyes, thinking that it was just an illusion, but when he looked out again, the pony was still there, and it looked like she was racing another pony... a stallion in fact... all Sterling could do at that moment was look outside the window as the race progressed...

Corona was catching her breath only for a few seconds before Shadow blazed across the finish, a look of anger on his face, while he snorted from his nose. "Shadow that was a good race I haven't raced like that in..." "Shut it you dirty, ugly little..." Shadow raised a wing ready to swing at Corona. "That's enough!" Corona looked over to see Lightening Dust trotting to them with a look of ferocity growing worse and worse. "Alright everypony here's the roster if you're not on it then thank you for trying out. Now for the two of you into my office at once!" Corona and Shadow followed Lightening while the other ponies were met with either happiness or anguish on the roster. Once inside her office Lightening shut the door behind them, telling them to take a seat. "Ok well I was planning on making one of you the Lead Ace but seeing as how both of you are so skilled I'm making you both Lead Ace. Or more importantly, Corona is Lead and Shadow you're the secondary Ace in case Corona can't play." Shadow tried to object but was met with a hoof and a demand to get out and report for practice in an hour.

Sterling eventually finished math class after being scolded by the math teacher for looking out the window. It was difficult for Sterling to concentrate, but after the teacher's warning, Sterling quickly got back to work. Eventually the class was finished and Sterling walked out of the classroom, wondering what exactly Corona was doing outside flying so quickly with that stallion... He reasoned that it could have been a race, but Sterling was also worried that the stallion perhaps could have also caught her interest... what if he had competition?

 

Before Sterling could continue thinking about that, he heard a pony calling out to him. It was Pink Heart from music class! She raced over to Sterling's side, wanting a walk with him,

 

"Hey Sterling! Wanna have a walk?" Pink Heart asked excitedly. She saw this as a chance to acquaint with Sterling some more, even if it was only between classes. 

"Sure... I'm heading off to biology class, and it's that way! Where are you off to next?" Sterling replied with a question of his own after letting her trot with him.'

"I'm off to media class after this. It's in the same direction where you're heading." Pink Heart responded happily as they began the walk to their next class...
