Sterling kept waiting outside until Star and Corona walked out of the changing rooms. He was just opening his mouth to comfort Corona when Star suddenly and quickly shielded Corona from Sterling's eyes. Corona even gave him an evil look... What was up with her look? Sterling wondered, unable to help... Sterling gasped at her evil look, unsure why she even gave it... Sterling gave a dejected look to Corona, wondering why she did it before he walked out of the change rooms...

 

Sterling got out of the rooms, only to stumble onto Pink Heart at the entrance to the rooms...

 

"Sterling... is... is Corona alright?" Pink gave a sad look to Sterling, but he didn't want any of it...

"Just leave me alone ok?! She's mad at me, you happy?!" Sterling then pushed Pink Heart aside, making his way out of the stadium and back to the school... angry, and confused... Pink Heart wasn't sure what to say now... what exactly happened back there? And why was Sterling so angry... She had to find out... she needed to find Corona...

Star walked Corona out to her parents who were quickly questioning her about what was going on and what happened. "Sterling...it's all his fault. He lied to me and did this to me. I just want to go home." Corona and her parents started towards home, her father not very keen on seeing Sterling again at this moment. Unknown to Corona, as skilled as Shadow was at the game since he didn't play as a team the Feather Falcons ended up loosing their first game of the season. Star watched from the school as Corona and her parents headed home. It was then that Ruby stepped out of the shadows. "Wow I can't believe that happened to her Star. I wonder who'd even want to do something like that to her." Star whipped around and glared at Ruby. "I don't know how you did this Ruby but I know it's you. I'll bring the truth to light here just you wait."

Sterling walked back to his home after all that had happened... he just wanted to go into his room... and cry a river. He didn't know what to do now... He was angry at everything, particularly at what happened in Wingball. He couldn't forgive himself for not noticing that something was fishy with the equipment, given that it came from somepony he never knew. He continued to walk sadly home... alone. He didn't want anypony talking to him right now... He just wanted alone time...

Pink Heart needed to help Sterling, even if it was the perfect chance to become Sterling's new marefriend. It just wasn't right. He looked downtrodden. Depressed. Hopeless. She didn't want to see that from anypony, let alone Sterling... She had to look for Sterling and console him... just as a friend should. Disregarding Sterling's push, she quickly rushed out of the school as well, searching frantically for any sign of Sterling... Where could he be... only Sterling knew...

Star took off after her small confrontation with Ruby, she knew Sterling and Corona had to work this out but in Corona's emotional state she would likely punch Sterling without really thinking it through. Star wanted to help the couple through this but it was best for her keep them from each other till they cooled down a bit more. Star met up with one of her friends that was in a few classes with Ruby and her friends. What she found out would definitely help Corona and Sterling, but giving both of their states it would be best to wait. I don't what I should do. I can't confront Ruby with this and nopony will do anything if I tell the principle. Oh Celestia what do I do? Star decided it was best to go and see Corona and try to help her cope with everything that went down just a short moment ago.

Pink Heart continued to search for Sterling, not even caring that it was still about an hour before the school day ended. She had no idea where Sterling's house was or where what he would do once he got there. But in any case, she had to find Sterling. She needed him to sort out the mess that he was in. After all, it was he who gave her the sabotaged equipment! Eventually, she finally caught up to Sterling... he was headed for Baltimare's main park... and it looked like he was sitting on a bench... Pink Heart frantically ran over to Sterling, hoping she could finally have an audience with him...

Star took off in the direction of Corona and her parents as fast as she could. It wasn't as hard to track Corona as she originally thought since she could still see some drops of paint on the ground. Star found them trotting towards a house and made a B-line to the ground in front of them landing hard and sending a blast of wind out. "I'm sorry to bother you all but I'm Star Shine and I'm a upperclasspony that's aid for new students. I'd like to talk to Corona." Corona's parents glared at Star until Corona gave the okay and they headed on inside. Corona sniffled and whipped some tears from her eyes. "There's nothing to talk about Star, Sterling did this to me he was even there to gloat at my misery." Star stood over her shaking her head. "Corona just think about it, it doesn't even make sense for him to do such a thing. What would he have to gain from it anyway, he loves you with all of his heart I know. You need to go and talk to him." Corona stood there thinking it over. It didn't really make sense but she was still really hurt that it was him, she just wanted to slam her head into her pillow and scream while she cried. She'd been so mean to him and he really didn't deserve it, Corona felt even worse about everything. She just walked past Star and into the house and did what she wanted hoping that Sterling could only forgive her for what she had done.

Pink Heart rushed frantically to Sterling who was sitting on the benches at Baltimare Park. Even though a sea of green was present on the grass and the trees around him, Sterling couldn't see any of it. It was all just grey to him... especially after what happened between him and Corona... it all just broke apart... He didn't know what to do now... Suddenly...

 

"STERLING! IS THAT YOU?! PLEASE! IT'S ME! PINK HEART!!!" Pink Heart shouted with all her might! She had to get Sterling's attention! And she did. Sterling jumped up and quickly turned his head towards the pink coloured pony rushing towards him.

 

"Pink Heart! I told you to GO AWAY! Is that so hard?!" Sterling shouted back with anger. Pink Heart was the last mare he wanted to talk to. He didn't need Pink Heart's bumbly nature bothering him right now...

Star shook her head as she watched Corona head into her house. Star took off, there was obviously nothing that she could say to Corona at this point to change her mind on the subject but maybe just maybe Sterling would listen to reason. Star caught sight of Sterling and another pony down at the park and flew down as quietly as she could. Landing softly in a tree so that she could wait until the right time to show up. It wasn't the best tactic but considering that there was another mare with him it would probably be best to wait and see how things transpired first.

Pink Heart didn't care how Sterling acted right now. She needed to get him to calm down...

 

"Sterling! I'm just trying to help! I saw all that happened! It's not your fault! Please Sterling!" Pink Heart pleaded with Sterling, hoping that he would at least find some way to reconcile with Corona...

 

"It's no use Pink! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if YOU set up the dirt on Corona just so she could break up with me! That would leave you alone with me wouldn't it? Well it hasn't worked Pink Heart, and if you ever want to talk with me again, then it'll be a long time coming, cause it's all YOUR fault!" Sterling retorted back with anger. He didn't want Pink Heart helping, or anyone else for that matter! Pink Heart then gave Sterling a long stare before she turned away slowly... with a tear in her eye.

 

"Fine Sterling... if that's the way you want it... then so be it. Goodbye Sterling. I don't even know why I thought you could be my friend..." Pink Heart replied softly before she ran off in tears towards her home...

Star had seen enough and flew out of the tree landing next to Sterling. "That's enough Sterling!!" Star shouted, she was tired of both parties being too stubborn to do anything. She had to fix this, and she had to bring the responsible party to light. "You need to go and talk to Corona. She thinks you're the one that did this to her, she doesn't know the whole thing. I know that somepony was behind all of this and I don't plan on leaving until you leave to go talk to her." Star Stood her ground, she wasn't going to let a younger student tell her what she should be doing especially when it comes to true love.

 

Meanwhile back at the school Star's friend managed to find the paint can and the thread that was used to commit the cruel joke.

Sterling grumbled as he continued to walk back home from the park. All he wanted was just some peace and quiet, away from all that had just transpired. Everything was going against him, and he didn't want anything to do with Pink Heart, Corona, and the rest of Hoofstomp High. Just as he was about to leave Baltimare Park, a pegasus quickly stormed down to Sterling, halting him as well. She gave him a loud rant about not leaving until Sterling walked to Corona's house to talk with her. Sterling looked even madder than ever, having been surprised in such an intrusive manner, and her obstinacy left Sterling even more defiant...

 

"You're not going to leave me alone until I walk over to Corona's place aren't you?" Sterling answered with a snarl. He was even more annoyed that it was Star who first accused him of placing the paint on Corona's outfit... "Ironically, wasn't it YOU who accused ME of placing the gear?! How dare you? What are you saying? What, you KNOW who planted the paint on her? I hope you say Pink Heart, because she's clearly been nothing but a nuisance since we first met!" Sterling continued his rant, hoping that he would finally be left alone for once...

Pink Heart trudged back for home with tears welling up on her face... She wanted to love Sterling, and she had a big crush on him to boot... He was so smart, yet so dumb... and defiant... She pondered deeply about her feelings for Sterling. From sadness to anger they moved as Pink Heart recalled that Sterling accused her of placing the paint on Corona to get his attention... Why would he think that... She couldn't understand as she finally reached her home... Right now, she just wanted to be in bed...

Star stomped her hoof into the ground leaving a deep impression. "Don't you dare start that blame game with me Sterling! I if anything kept you from having Corona tear into you and crush your heart all together. I said what I did to protect you." Star paced around Sterling never once taking her eyes off him for a second. "Pink Heart you should deffinately go apologize to since you were so mean to her. She was just trying to help and wanted to be your friend and you pushed her away. Corona feels awful for the way she treated you and the fact that she even thought that you would do something like this to her." Star extended her hoof pointing in the direction of her house. "She needs you right now Sterling, and it's your obligation to go comfort her, not make her feel WORSE! The longer you wait the more her heart breaks apart." Star then gave a low sigh. "I'm working on finding out who did this to her and if you can tell me anything please let me know, but right now Corona needs you."

Sterling could clearly see that Star had a lot of spunk. She was trying as hard as she could to get Sterling's attention and to make him go to Corona's house. She even pointed in that direction; what more was needed? Sterling replied with a very deep sigh, seeing that Star wouldn't leave him alone until he agreed to go over to Corona's...

 

"Fine... I'll go... but if it doesn't go well, it's your fault." Sterling replied sternly. He really didn't want to see Corona after how angry she looked, and deep down, he felt that the others were just out there to deceive him and to go against him... behind his back. He then motioned for Star to show him the way...

Star took to the air flying low to the ground as she guided Sterling towards Corona's house. She stopped at the front door and gave Sterling a concerned look. Star knocked on the door and Flower answered the door, looking at Star and then at Sterling. "Hello Sterling, Corona told us what happened on the way home. But we believe that she's wrong this time in saying what you did to her. She's been upstairs crying since we got home, I've even heard her mumbling that she wants to make things right." Flower stepped to the side and motioned for him to enter. "Please come in, I think it will do you both some good to talk this out."

Sterling walked with Star towards Corona's house. When he knocked on the door, he didn't see an angry mother. He instead saw a mother concerned about her daughter. One who knew that Sterling had nothing to do with the mess that Corona was in. Sterling then walked into the house and sat on their living room couch, unsure of how to approach Corona with her still crying in her room... Her tears were so loud that Sterling could hear them... He didn't want to move anywhere for the time being, and he was too unwilling to walk up there right now... "Maybe later", he mumbled to himself...

Pink Heart continued to walk sadly away from the park, feeling neglected and tossed aside cruelly. She just wanted to help... she just wanted to help... Still deep in her thoughts, Pink heard a voice that was heard from the distance. She turned around to see the source of the voice, and she noticed a green stallion running towards her...

 

"PINK! PINK! THERE YOU ARE!" Erlen cried out as he caught up with Pink. He had looked for her ever since the school day ended. "Oh Pink, I was worried about you... I couldn't find you anywhere in school and I wanted to see if you were..." Before Erlen could continue, he paused and saw Pink's tears... He looked at her with a slight gasp, unsure what to do next... He then stopped speaking, silently trotting with Pink, trying to think of some way to see what was wrong and to cheer her up...

Flower sat down next to Sterling and gave him a warm and caring smile. "Look Sterling, we know that you didn't do this to Corona. But what we do know is that she needs you right now. She wont listen to either of us, and she keeps believing that you don't want anything to do with her." Feather Point then walked into the room, sitting down with a newspaper he began reading what he'd missed earlier. "Yes Sterling you need to go and talk to our daughter you both need to air this out and get it all settled." Feather Point said this all without once taking his eyes off of the newspaper.

Sterling sat there, feeling glum and angry about the whole situation. Corona's parents took notice of his sadness and desperation and encouraged him more and more to walk upstairs to Corona's room. Taking note of this, Sterling replied with a nod before he got up nervously and slowly... He still didn't want to go up there, given her angry scowl and the accusation flung at him. If his parents insisted though, then it had to be done... Sterling trudged slowly upstairs to Corona's room, anxious at the outcome...

Erlen continued to walk with Pink Heart, unsure what to say next. She was clearly feeling terrible, her tears and sniffles continuing to flow from her face. It was at that moment that Erlen did something that was unprecedented for him... He placed his hoof onto Pink's back as she walked.

 

Pink Heart stopped trotting. She turned her towards Erlen, who she didn't even realize was there with her. Erlen then spoke as calmly as he could,

 

"Pink... What... what happened?"

Corona finally slowly started to stop crying when she heard a knock on her door. Corona turned and looked to see a maroon hoof poking through the door. Corona quickly buried herself under the covers of her bed, watching the door open and Sterling enter. "S....Sterling...h...hi."  Corona raised the blankets up just enough to see out from under it, she felt her heart beat when he entered. Unfortunately it sank when she realized that he probably hated her for what she did. "You don't have to be here I...I can understand if you never want to be seen with me again. Especially for how I treated you and also how ugly I look now." Corona sniffled, curling back under the covers. She could only hope that she hadn't destroyed their relationship completely, all she wanted was for him to embrace her and tell her everything would be okay and that things could go back to before this stupid incident.

When Sterling arrived at Corona's room, he knocked slowly on the door to her room. Sterling then opened the door and walked in as slowly as he could... Corona looked like she was in a terrible state. She covered herself under her bed sheets and he could see a puddle of tears on the bed. Sterling didn't know what to say, and that feeling was exacerbated when Corona told him about not having to be with her anymore after what happened on that day... Just earlier, Corona was so angry at him... and now, she was in complete tears and in full apology... Sterling continued to trot until he reached her bed... He then sat on top of it, beside the bump that was formed by Corona hiding under her bed...

Pink Heart turned up to Erlen and stopped when Erlen placed his front hoof on her back. She wasn't sure what Erlen was doing, but... it was comforting... Giving off another sniffle, she spoke weakly,

 

"Erlen... you wouldn't understand... It's... it's about Sterling... And Wingball..." Pink then gave off another sniffle, leaving Erlen even more confused as to what was going on... He saw a bench nearby and motioned for Pink Heart to sit there so she could tell all that happened over the past day...

Corona felt her bed move and slowly poked her head out of the covers and saw Sterling sitting on her bed. She looked up at him with her blue saphire eyes, her blue and orange mane now covered in spots of dark grey paint. Corona shifted closer to Sterling and pressed her head against his side. Tears ran down her cheeks, but these were tears of joy. The fact that he hadn't left made her happy inside and want to just explode but she managed to control it. "Th....thank you for not leaving Sterling...really....thank you." Corona's voice cracked as she spoke, letting her heart do the talking. "I'm so sorry I shouldn't have let my mind go like that...you're the best thing in my life in years." Corona cried into Sterling's side.

Sterling saw Corona crying on her bed, apologizing to Sterling for her accusation. Sterling gave out a sigh before he replied with uncertainty.

 

"It's... it's ok Corona. I... I got angry after you reacted badly to my presence. and... it's just... I feel terrible about it now. I... blamed this mare who kept on trying to approach me. And I feel terrible for it, especially after I gave Star an angry rant and after I put her into tears..." Sterling then gave out a deep sigh before he began to pat on Corona's mane... He didn't know what to do...

Erlen gasped when Pink Heart mentioned Sterling. He may have met him only once, but Erlen always felt that Sterling was a good stallion from their first encounter. Was that about to change?

 

"What.. what happened with Sterling?" Erlen asked nervously. He wasn't sure how this would end, but he placed himself into this, so he might as well face it...

 

"Well... you see... I... I have no chance with Sterling anymore... he just threw me away... not only as a marefriend, but also as a friend in general... He thought I was the one to have sabotaged Corona's outfit just so that I could be with him after their imminent breakup..." Pink Heart continued to sob after saying all that... but Erlen could only wonder how much of it was true and how much of it was emotional as he began to stroke on Pink's back...

Corona slowly started to sit up letting the blanket start to slide off of her. "You were right to be mad...I was soo mean to you and I knew deep down that you didn't do this to me. I just...I lashed out at you cause there was nopony else to blame...and I...I. Dear Celestia I'm such a horrible mare, can you ever forgive me?" Corona asked sitting up and looking at Sterling's eyes, the tears running down her cheeks. It was then that she realized that her blanket had fallen off showing her paint coated fur, mane, and tail. Corona panicked in embarrassment trying to get the blanket back on her but quickly ended up throwing it on the floor and sat and sat there sniffling.

Sterling continued to sit silently as Corona spoke her peace. He didn't know what to say, and when the damage to Corona was shown to him in broad daylight, Sterling was even more speechless... How could other ponies be so cruel to her? He didn't know why Corona looked grey, but he knew that colour didn't matter to him. Corona was a good mare inside... he knew that, but her accusation had hurt him... Still not knowing what to say, he then began to stroke on Corona's mane. He didn't care what it looked like... He just loved how silky it felt...

"Pink Heart... Sterling... I think he was just really angry at what happened to Corona... You do realize that he's... her coltfriend right? And by the sounds of it, Sterling's got the blame for the incident. I'd be angry too if something like that happened to you..." Erlen quickly realized what he just said and quickly closed his mouth in embarrassment. Sure he liked Pink Heart, but he saw her as a close friend and nothing more at present... Hopefully Pink Heart didn't take it the wrong way. 

 

When Pink Heart heard those words, her tears started to slow. She couldn't help but give a light giggle at what Erlen said. It was really cute that Erlen said that, and she felt happier knowing that somepony cared about her despite her eccentric nature. 

 

"Thanks Erlen. I understand..." Pink Heart sniffed and giggled in reply. Good thing Erlen came along when he did, she thought. She was feeling really sad, and Erlen's presence was already helping her through today's events... She also didn't want to think badly of Sterling, but deep down, she wanted an apology from him. 

 

"I still think it was mean of Sterling to have done that to me. I just wanted to help..." Pink Heart sighed. 

 

"I'm sure you'll get one. Sterling was probably just really angry... and it probably wasn't the right time for you to have comforted him so soon after the incident." Erlen replied calmly. Erlen may have just beginning to realize this, but he was actually comforting a mare, a first in his life. It felt so natural to him... better yet, it felt good. Him patting on Pink Heart's soft, yet slightly mushy back was very pleasing to him, and he wanted to keep comforting her...

Corona felt Sterling start to stroke her mane the feel of his hoof made her heart beat faster inside. The fact that he was staying made her start to feel more and more relaxed and at ease with everything. Her tears started to slowly dry up and before she knew it she wasn't even crying any more. What Corona did next surprised even her. Corona suddenly turned her head to look at Sterling to say something to him, but  ended up kissing him right on the lips. Corona didn't shy away at first, still overcome with the initial shock until she realized what had happened. Once she noticed what was going on she pulled away quickly, her face turning a deep red see able even through the paint on her face. "I....I um....heh...well that was um....new. A...anyway Sterling thank you, you're the best coltfriend that I've ever had and I don't want to loose you. Can you forgive me for acting so cold to you?"

Sterling was still caressing Corona's silky mane. It felt wonderful to him and it helped him forget about all that had happened earlier that day. When he turned his face towards Corona, a further surprise awaited. Instead of speaking anymore, Corona instantly kissed him on the lips... Sterling's mind went blank. He didn't know what to make of this, but the moment just soaked into him... It was brief, but when Corona moved her lips away from Sterling's mouth, all Sterling could do was faint on Corona's bed... He didn't even hear Corona telling him that he was her best coltfriend... He was too enamoured with the kiss itself...

Pink Heart and Erlen continued to sit by each other, letting the stallions and mares walk by their bench in the city of Baltimare. Both ponies felt calmer and calmer around each other... Neither pony could pinpoint what exactly the feeling was, but regardless of the description, both ponies felt that they could sit on that bench for an eternity... Pink Heart looked up at Erlen again with a smile... she wanted to say something to him...

 

"Erlen... thanks for being here for me. I don't know how I would have felt if you didn't come along." Pink Heart spoke lovingly. Thinking it was but a simple gesture of kindness, she planted a kiss on Erlen's cheeks. When Erlen received them, he placed his hoof at the cheek where he was kissed. Turning towards Pink, he replied with a nervous chuckle and a blush,

 

"Ohh... umm... you're very welcome Pink... Hehehe..." Erlen continued to massage his cheek where Pink had kissed him... He could only wonder what the kiss possibly meant as Pink Heart gave out another giggle...
