Corona giggle at her failed attempt to make a potion whipping some of the ash off of her face, not that anypony could tell with her grey body. Corona continued listening to the teacher as she continued mixing the potion until she finally got her potion right. Corona leaned over a little once she'd finished her potion towards Sterling. "What's your special talent Sterling? I'm sorry for not telling you mine but it's better to see it than for me to try to explain it."

Sterling looked up when Corona asked him about his special talent. In reality, he had multiple talents in both music and science, and it showed in his cutie mark. He replied to her with a smile,

 

"If it's something worthwhile to see, then I'll be willing to wait. I'm excited to see what you have in store... As for me, my talent's in medicine and piano playing. That's why I have a music note and a syringe as my cutie mark." Even though none of the other students were sitting by them, Sterling felt like he was the one with the most attention. Corona was already so kind right now, and Sterling felt immersed in this love already...

Corona's ears perked up when Sterling told her about his special talent, she'd never met anypony so talented. Class continued like normal with Ms. Green giving them a free pass on homework for the first day of school. With that the bell rang and it was time to move to the next class. Corona was in a little rush to gather her remaining things the last few colored pencils especially. One of her pencils rolled towards Sterling's side of the desk, while she reached for it and touched hooves with Sterling. Corona's eyes widened and she blushed a deep red before quickly grabbing the pencil and putting it away. "I'll see you at english Sterling!" Corona flew out of the class in a hurry and towards her locker.

 

Corona stopped at her locker, panting heavily she put some of her textbooks away. Corona couldn't believe that she'd just touched Sterling's hoof, and the fact that her heart was beating inside her chest was not helping. Come on Corona, keep it together girl. So you touched his hoof big deal....but what if it's not. Why is my heart beating like this? We only just met. Corona shut her locker and headed towards class.

The rest of the class was relatively uneventful since most of it was just taking down notes and trying out different potions on different insects which was fine under the law of care for animals in the biology classroom. When the bell eventually rang, Sterling looked at the clock and was left reeling because of what seemed like mere seconds. He was having so much fun with the potions. Within an instant, his attention turned to Corona's hoof as they touched his for a brief moment. Even if it was because she was trying to grab her pencils, Sterling could see Corona blushing at the fact he touched her hoof. Sterling chuckled lightly when Corona then left for English Class.

 

All Sterling could do at that moment was ponder why Corona blushed at him like that. He got up from his seat and trotted away to English class, lagging behind Corona...

There was a certain light blue coloured mare who trotted around the school. She was a clear socialite, and she was always in the know about everything. Her looks accompanied her character well. Her smooth-flowing mane glittered with white accompanied her attractive and seductive abilities well. She was the daughter of a well-to-do businessman from Canterlot, and she was in the know about everything to do with anypony. Well... except for one. She didn't want to think about her. She was the bane of her existence. She didn't want to think about it, but her and her family... they ruined everything. She hated them ever since. She wanted them to go down... Too bad she had to see her as she trotted into English Class...

Corona floated into english class and took her seat, taking out her sketchpad Corona continued working on the drawing she'd started last class. Corona looked up and could see a light blue mare sitting a few seats away from her, and glaring at her. Corona couldn't figure out what her problem was she'd never seen her before. Corona's eyes caught sight of Sterling trotting into the room and she motioned for him to sit in the center of class with her. It was at that moment that her heart started beating heavily again. Come on Corona get it together. Why do I feel this way around him...I mean...he is cute. Oh no cute I can't have a crush on him...just act natural Corona.

Sterling was now in English class. He wasn't looking forward to this class. He never liked to read literature, despite its usefulness. The problem wasn't that he didn't like to read at all. He only wanted to read factual books and ones with lots of pictures. He found literature too dense and boring for his liking. As he walked in, he noticed the light blue mare staring down at him. Why was she looking at him that way? Was it because he was new? Was it because he looked weird? Either way, he made a mental note not to chat with her in the near future, considering her evil look...

 

Sterling then sat by Corona once again. He waved at her once again and spoke with a smile as he sat,

"Hey! How was biology class? I thought it was great with all those potions! I've always wanted to know about them! Maybe I could go and see why they work the way they do!"

Diamond Glitter was taking a mental note of everything to do with the grey bodied mare. She didn't like her one bit. She was ugly looking for starters. Plus, her family... didn't see eye to eye with them. No they didn't. Something was amuck between them, and she wanted Corona down. To see a stallion with her already was appalling. It was probably because he too was new. Two new ponies being friends. That was inevitable. But for a stallion to befriend her? That was something to scoff at. All she could do though was stare from where she sat, thinking of some way... to get her out of her sights forever...

Corona finished the line work for her drawing and had shown what she was drawing. It was a picture of Princess Luna, she was resting on a crescent moon and looking up at the starry sky. "It was fun, I normally don't have that much fun in a science type class but playing around with potions was really fun. I'll let you handle the detailed stuff Sterling, I'll stick with just mixing the potions." Corona giggled. Corona was enjoying every second she was having with Sterling, her mind had even turned from any thoughts about that odd mare in class with them.

Sterling looked at the completed drawing Corona gave. He was stunned at the detail she placed into the drawing. He was even more stunned that Corona was close friends with Princess Luna. Something like that was not to be taken lightly. Sterling responded to her drawing with admiration,

 

"Wow Corona... that's a really nice drawing. Looks exactly like the Princess herself!" Sterling also replied to Corona's seemingly complacent attitude towards the potions in biology class,

 

And as for the potions... you need to know some details about them so you don't get hurt!"

Corona giggled a little while blushing a deep red. "Th...thank you Sterling I've drawn the Princess a lot, I just love her nights they're so beautiful. I've spent many nights sitting outside and staring up at the stars that she puts in the sky." Corona was glad to see Sterling concerned about her, and it made her heart beat faster. "I appreciate you looking out for me Sterling. I...um...would love it if you could teach me a few things about making a few potions?" Corona shuffled her wings a little bit.

Sterling began to blush when Corona shuffled her body towards Sterling and asked him to teach her about potions. He never had a mare ask him about potion making. Most of them would shuffle away from Sterling or be flippant with their interest. Sterling replied with a sheepish chuckle,

 

"Well sure Corona... we can do that when I have free time..." Sterling continued to chuckle as the English teacher walked in an prepared her things.

Corona smiled when Sterling said that he would teach her about potions, nothing would make her happier than to spend more time around Sterling. Everything was going well until some of the students thought it would be a fun thing to shoot some spitballs at Corona and Sterling. They were terrible shots a few flying by and sticking to the wall, but suddenly a few stuck right to Corona's wings. The ponies started laughing when they saw them starting to stick to more of her heathers. Corona winced when she felt her feathers pulling hard on her wings, trying desperately to get the goo out.

Diamond Glitter chuckled as the other ponies began to fire spitballs at Corona and Sterling. Good. They deserved it. She never wanted to hang out with imbeciles like them. They were too easy to flirt and they didn't give any value relationship wise. They nevertheless served their purpose in tormenting the most hated mare she ever met. She sat where she was, turning back to her teacher and satisfied at their detriment.

Sterling was beginning to swat away spitballs and was having trouble focusing in class. He could see that Corona was suffering from all the balls being spat at her. He offered to help Corona out by taking the gooey things off one by one. He struggled to get them off, and as he continued to work through the goo, he pondered why the teacher wasn't noticing the students who were tormenting them. If only there was some justice he thought...

Corona squeaked quietly feeling a few parts of her feathers come out while Sterling assissted her in removing the wads of gunk from her wings. It was then that Corona noticed why the teacher wasn't helping them. One of the students, a brown unicorn was using magic no doubt to make it look like nothing was going on. "Sterling stop for a moment." Corona lined up the shot at the chuckling pony and hurled it striking him right in the side of his head breaking his concentration. Corona started wheeping and stretching her wings showing off the goop once the magic was lifted. The teacher Mrs. bright a earth pony saw what was going on and the ponies with the straws. "WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU PONIES DOING TO THAT POOR MARE!!!"

Sterling didn't notice the brown pony until just now. That was when Corona told him to stop taking off the goop from her wings so she could have a shot at the pony. Sterling gave a shake of the head when Corona realized that he was using a spell to prevent the teacher from knowing what was going on. He had no idea there was such magic in the first place. Sure it could be used for good, but in this case, it was certainly not a magic he would support using. When the teacher finally turned around to see Corona weeping, Sterling felt much better. Now the ponies had to explain themselves, and they hopefully would get their dues...

Diamond Glitter snarked at Mrs. Bright who she felt was merely favouring Corona. Playacting herself as the victim was a new low for her, she thought. She scoffed inwardly at Corona as Mrs. Bright demanded an explanation from the ponies responsible for treating her so poorly...

Mrs. Bright trotted over and expertly pulled out all of the goop without pulling out one feather from Corona's wings. "There you go sweetheart I hope that feels better for you now." She turned her sights to the ponies that had caused the trouble in the first place. "I'll be seeing you three after school for detention." Corona smiled when Mrs. Bright walked back to the front of the classroom and went on teaching. Corona was glad to have a teacher like Mrs. Bright that would put bullies in their place, but was so kind to those that needed her help.

Sterling breathed a sigh of relief when Corona's goops were pulled off with the help of Mrs. Bright. He gave Corona a warm smile after Mrs. Bright cheered them up, much to the derision and anger of the bullies who wanted to get a piece of her. They then chanted, "Teacher's Pet" to her, hoping that would aggravate her as a consolation prize for being forced to serve detention. From the sidelines, Diamond Glitter too wasn't happy at the developments, and she vowed to find some way to make both Sterling and Corona... it had to be the right time, but being her sly and conniving self, that was something easy to do... All she needed was just to make a few new friends in the 9th grade, and she'd be set...

Corona heard the students teasing her and hid herself behind her wings, she didn't like anypony calling her that it reminded her of her school back in Cloudsdale. Mrs. Bright quickly glared at the class causing them to quiet down as she continued on with her lesson. Corona just kept to herself as she listened to the teacher talk about grammar and give them their homework for the night. When the bell rang Corona gathered her things and headed towards the lunch room keeping her head down as she trotted down the hall. Corona ended up bumping into another mare in the hall. Corona fell down a few of her things falling out of her bag, the pony she bumped into was a very beautiful Pegasus mare but with other mares around her Corona knew she had to be very popular.

 

The mare was a bright white with a two color red mane one part a shiny ruby red and the other part a darker shade. Her eyes were a nice bright and light blue and she had a daisy flower with rainbow ribbon coming from it in her mane. Her cutie mark was that of shining ruby. "Excuse me just what do you think you're doing?" The mare questioned.

Sterling wasn't happy at all when the students teased them both. He too remembered the days he was in Manehattan. He remembered being teased just for being so smart and unsociable. Even as he was taking notes on grammar, it was hard for him to forget those days. If it weren't for his friends back in Manehattan, he wouldn't have been able to pull through all those years...

 

Eventually, the lunch bell rang, and Sterling shrugged off all the teasing. He trotted towards the lunch room while Corona swiftly left ahead of him. As he trotted, he couldn't be sure whether he had any feelings towards Corona. Sure she was a wonderful friend, but all the blushing... and the fact she looked so flustered during their conversations wasn't something Sterling was used to seeing in any mare. Did she really like him? All that complimenting too... Sterling couldn't get these things off his mind as he unknowingly headed towards a large crowd with Corona centered on it...

English class was finished. Grammar. Diamond Glitter found it far too easy and she could feel the boredom seep through her body as the class droned. After the eventful disturbances the bullies brought on Corona, All Diamond could do was seethe under her breath as Corona got the best of the rest of the class. She was relieved when the bell finally rang. She quickly took note of the homework and rushed off towards the lunch table. However, she too was forced to face the growing crowd...

Corona looked up at the white mare with a worried look on her face, the mare obviously quite angry with Corona bumping into her. "I...I....I'm sorry I didn't see you there....I...." The mare glared at Corona with evil intent, her group of friends followed suit. "You should watch where you're going freshmeat. You never know who you might offend in this school." The mare raised her wing and and swat at Corona the feathers stinging slightly as they hit her cheek. "I'm s....s....sorry I really am. I didn't mean any harm." Corona whimpered, curling up and defending herself with her wings. "You're lucky grey girl, you're in the pressence of Ruby Star. But to you it's just miss Ruby you little freshmeat." One of the group said to Corona as she cowered in her place. Ruby leaned down, the sophmore standing taller than Corona already. "You better watch your step Grey girl. I'll be watching you from now on and you don't want to cross me again. GOT THAT!" Ruby snapped at Corona at the end before her group started to move on. Ruby noticed Diamond on the move and shot a glare at her before heading to class.

Sterling walked towards the group just when it dispersed. All that was left was Corona and a bunch of other students walking away laughing at her. It looked like something had happened, but Sterling wasn't sure what it exactly was. He rushed over to Corona's side, noticing that she looked beaten up. Sterling then looked at her with as loving a look as he could give, and then asked,

 

"Corona... what happened here? You... you look terrible..." Then, out of nowhere, Sterling gave Corona a hug, hoping that it would comfort her. He wasn't sure why, but he just did it...

Diamond Glitter noticed the red mare walking away from the scene after she gave Corona a verbal beating. She looked like a cool enough pony to socialize with. After giving Corona a death glare, she rushed over to the bully and waved at her. She then spoke with confidence,

 

"Hey! The name's Diamond Glitter. I liked what you did there with that grey mare. That was real cool of you!"

Corona sniffled as Sterling hugged her, unknown to him she was fighting back a river of tears right now. Nothing could help Corona right now, she pulled away from Sterling. "Please I....I just want to be alone." Corona flew off towards the girls bathroom, students laughed as she flew past. There were a few student's that were genuinely concerned about Corona one of them was a pale yellow pegasus with a carrot orange mane and tail that had seen the whole thing. She felt bad for the two, the grey mare had just been threatened by one of the highest ranking students and she had just pushed away the one pony who was trying to make her feel better. "Um excuse me." The mare called to Sterling.

 

Ruby looked at Diamond Glitter with a scowl and just scoffed at her. "I know you Diamond Glitter I've heard about you. You're just like all the other ponies that wants to run with me. But you know what...you don't have what it takes, cause I'd eat you alive. As for grey mare if you have a personal beef with her it's between you two. The only way you'll be running with me is in your dreams, that is unless you can show me you've got what it takes." Ruby flapped her wings blowing some wind in Diamonds face before walking away.

When Corona pushed Sterling away, all he could do was just shake his head in shock. It was really bad. Sterling could only pull his head down as he pondered why all those ponies had to make fun of them both. What made them so different? It wasn't fair... they were just like them... they just had different talents was all. Why were they the source of all the mockery? It just wasn't fair...

 

Suddenly, a soft voice. Sterling looked up, wondering about the voice's source. He looked around and noticed a lightly coloured mare with an orange mane. He got up and looked at her. Who was she? She seemed nice enough, and it was a welcome change from all the other ponies. He shuffled his hooves around as she approached him, wondering what exactly she wanted...

Diamond Glitter was angry. She didn't just want to hang out with Ruby. That wasn't her intention at all. At the end of the day, she didn't need that mare's attention. She was just utility for her desires. She was richer than Ruby. She was smarter than Ruby. She was lovelier than Ruby. Why would she stoop down just to be friends with her? Diamond Glitter merely grunted when Ruby flew off. She then turned towards the cafeteria, wondering whether she should have her as an ally or to just ignore her...

"Hi I'm Star Shine. I'm sure you're probably wondering what happened just a bit ago." Star Shine put a somber look on her face. "Well your friend just made a very powerful enemy. That white mares name is Ruby Sky, and she's one of the schools most popular and feared ponies. Rubiy's father is one of the founders of Hoofstomp and her mother is a high time bureaucrat." Star Shine kneeled down and placed her wing on Sterling's shoulder trying to make him feel better. "Your friend just needs some space, she did after all just get feather smacked by Ruby and was given a big enough threat by her. If you want I could go and talk to her."

Sterling looked at Star Shine with a worried look. The pony she was bullied by was very powerful...? And her parents were among the founders of Hoofstomp High? Sterling couldn't believe. How would Ruby get her justice then? What could they possibly do? Sterling looked back down with a sigh. He felt comfort when she placed her wing by his side though. He looked back up towards her and greeted himself, albeit with a sigh,

 

"Thanks for the comfort Star. I just can't believe that there's ponies who would just want to hurt others. If only there was something we could do... I guess the first thing you could do is to comfort Corona as best as you can. Let her know that I care too ok?" Sterling then gave out another sigh as he awaited her response... Hopefully Corona would recover... What Ruby did... Sterling couldn't believe nor tolerate... if only he had power to change things...

Star nodded and headed towards the girls bathroom and entered and could instantly hear Corona crying. Star started consoling her as best as she could. "Corona, I'm Star Shine. I saw what happened and wanted to help you." Star only heard more crying and sobbing coming from within the stall. "Corona I could tell Sterling genuinely cares about you. You shouldn't push him away like that and don't worry about Ruby as long as I'm around Ruby wont hurt you. They don't call me the Big Sophomore Sister  for nothing." Corona slowly exited the stall seeing the Sophomore standing back by the sinks.

 

"D...do you really mean what you said about Sterling and about helping me?" Star simply nodded her head, putting her wing over Corona's back as she escorted Corona out of the bathroom. One of the freshman snickered and was caught by Star's glare instantly shut him up. The two mares walked back to Sterling, Corona whipped her tears away and hugged Sterling. "Thank you."
