MLP Forums IM?

It was just an idea nut now it's a recommendation. What if there was a IM for this forum, In which you could talk to your friends, and even have chat rooms where it's more than a one on one conversation. It might overbear the servers and might not fly but for now I just want to see other peoples reactions.

The proposed chat room has proven itself not nearly critical enough to warrant stretching our resources even further for a service most anyone can offer on their own these days.

 

And this brings us to alternatives. The suggestion has already been made for individually hosted chat rooms. As CD said, we have no problem with this, provided that “MLP Forums” and/or “Poniverse” are not slapped onto the chat room(s). We also have the Steam group chat room in service, one which could certainly receive a bit more attention. With the advent of Season 4, EQTV should be back up and running, allowing members to chat in real-time while watching copious amounts of pony. You are also free to drop Feld0 a line and ask if Poniverse might have real-time chat capabilities.

 

In the end, however, the low reward of a chat room has not justified the high logistical cost of maintaining one. God (and Zoop) only knows how much energy was poured into countless hours of unnecessary drama. One too many times did the staff have to put out fires which rarely if ever occur on the forums. In short, we have little interest in policing a vast dimension of the community that caused more harm than any good.

 

To reiterate past policy, MLP Forums will not, as circumstances apply currently, reopen or reestablish an official chat room. There is little else to discuss, as we are not prepared to change the policy at this time"

I'm sure you're supposed to read the big sign before you post here. Y'know that big green notice :U anyways the normal messaging function is good enough for what you're wanting, if you learn how to ([very] simply) use it.

While we appreciate your enthusiasm for the community here, and your desire to see it improve via the implementation of new features and avenues of member communication and/or interaction, we are unfortunately not interested in the addition of a chat room.

MLP Forums once played host to an on-site chat room that was integrated directly into our forum software - it did not end well, and we are not terribly interested in trying again.
