Season 4 Twilight, a theory

I lot of people, myself included, feel that the writers have bungled or given too little development to Princess Twilight beyond episodes 1&2. However, I have a theory on why we've only seen "winged twilight" and not "Princess Twilight".

 

My theory is that we'll only see princess Twilight when a third party is present. If you look at the episodes 3-7 we've not seen Twilight interact with anybody but her friends, except far Daring Do. Personally, I think Daring should have shown some sort of surprise having a princess before her, but given her character, and that her world seems far removed from Equestria maybe not. I really think the writers are keeping the relationship between the Mane 5 and Twilight exactly the same, which explains why we had that weird scene in the Everyfree when Twilight is sent home. It at once codified that they need Twilight and should not treat her differently.

 

Fluttershy: "Equestria needs its princess but we need our friend."

 

If my theory is correct, and I hope to Celestia

it is, we should see the return of Princess Twilight in the next episode-Rarity takes Manehatten. If we don't it means the writers have dropped the crown.

Well. I thoght the same thing couple days ago, when watching some SilverQuill review.

Still, Twilight's fearlesness in "Castle-Mania" can be an indication for her fitness into the role of a  princess. Not to mention all those speculations that her horn grew bigger. So, maybe we have seen princess Twilight at some level in the last episodes, too.

Maybe so but I think it is more enjoyable seeing Twiley in her regular manner being noticed as friends. I believe that yeah while she is still princess it would not affect her as much as it did Celestia perhaps. Or maybe she just does not want to adjust to that. Who knows though?

I would agree with you about Castle-mane-ia to a degree and you could also say that Twilight was the only pony with a good reason to be at the castle. She was also the only pony trying to search for the keys so far.

I think she is adjusted to what's happened so far-her wings and title- but she hasn't been given a chance to do much with her role beyond episodes 1 & 2.

She was only fearless after she read the princesses dairy, and before that the only thing (that I remember, correct me if I'm wrong) to be afraid of would be the spiders. Spike was only afraid because he's still considered a baby, and with the other five we already saw why they were so scared.

Once she saw the library she was fine, but the writers had to forge a connection between the idea of a journal and having positive feelings.

It's, maybe, a major problem of the show: we've never really seen, for instance, Her Highness actually do any ruling job. Not to mention Princess Woona or Me Amore Cadenza.

I think Twilight's role as a princess did change her in a way, but it won't change who she is. We could say that she is trying to adjust to her new role, and it will take time to adjust to being a princess. Making big decisions and taking charge more often could also play a factor in it.

I totally agree, but as I said, I'm expecting to see Princess Twilight make an appearance in Manehatten. She was already ackowledged as princess by Zecora, the ponies in Canterlot, and the Royal Guard. It won't take much to show that side of her, so here's to hopping.
