Diamond Dogs- anyone's best friend?

Now, there's two saying that I think most of us know,

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, and of course, dogs are man's best friend.

Putting the two together makes... *gasp* DIAMOND DOGS.   

 

Now I'm pretty sure that these guys aren't anyone's friend, but do you think this was intentional? I think it was, as a little secret/Easter egg. What do you think?

I guess if you do combine them both, they could be anyone's best friend. Maybe they have a fanbase just like the other villains, the world may never know.

I figured the name could be a reference to either the David Bowie album or to a movie by the same name. The movie is about some guys in search of a kind of treasure. Fits the Diamond Dogs I would say. Or it could have just been something clever Amy came up with on her own.
