repsol rave 2,963 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 whoa, wall of text much! welp, i'm 18, so i guess i'm not really the target audience for the show. hell i'm not even from the country where it aires! if i had to summarise why i like being a brony, i think it would be something like the loveabilty of the characters. i find the innocense just refreshing, as you already said. but honestly, it's the fandom itself that makes me like the show so much. everything about the brony fandom is pretty much amazing. there's no hate, no trolling (to some extend) and everybody is just nice to eachother, wich is pretty rare nowadays. i think that's probably the real reason i watch the show. Concerto Dusk 240 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 im 18 as well, and to be honest until september of last year i was the same way, now i cant go a day without watching an episode, i record every episode when it airs lol, so to answer your question, id have to say, innocence for one, true freindship, something you rarely see nowadays, everyone wants something from you, but in mlp they just do things for each other, no strings attached, like the first 2 episodes, twilights freinds helped her just because they could, not for personal gain, hell she didnt even want their help but they still did it, also its calming. it helps me keep my life in order, if things feel a little crazy or stressed, ill watch an episode or listen to the songs, it helps alot, so there you have it from a brony, bro hoof man, and good luck with the assingnment, also anime, nice choice my freind So, people have mistaken me for a nice guy. I'm not. Don't like it? Tough. Your loss. mirrorwing http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mirrorwing-r5649?do=edit obsidian wing http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/obsidian-wing-r6014
Simon 4,557 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 (edited) Of course a lot of the episodes are predictable or it wouldn't be watchable for kids. I find most sitcoms and shows meant for adults completely predictable as well, yet a lot of people still find them entertaining. The thing I personally love about MLP is the amazing variety. Unlike a lot of shows that are formulaic, the genres and styles of episodes in MLP vary so much that it constantly keeps me entertained. For example, the season 1 premiere and most of the other premieres for that matter are adventure episodes. There's an actual adversary and the episodes can really be exciting. Contrast that with something like the season 1 finale which focuses much more on comedy. Then you have episodes like Winter Wrap Up which focus on challenging a character's core identity. It's just a huge variety in styles that makes the show unique from a lot of other things on television. And it's not just the plots that vary. The show encompasses a huge range of styles of music ranging from short little songs like you would expect to see in a kids show to bigger musical numbers like in Winter Wrap Up to musical episodes like the season 3 finale to completely mind-blowing pieces of music like This Day Aria in the season 2 finale. On top of the variety, I think it's genuinely a well written show. I'm not sure what kids shows you have seen, but I really have not seen a show near the quality of this one in terms of writing in years. I mean when is the last time you've seen a show for kids where things like continuity are even given a little bit of consideration, yet alone the extremely high regard they're given in this show. Since you watched season 1, think of the gala episodes. It's something that started at episode 3 and was brought up a number of times in the season all the way to the finale. That doesn't happen in most kids shows. Usually every episode is self contained, but this has a much more mature plot style of allowing things like plots and jokes and every other aspect of the show to really carry from one episode to the next. I don't even see the level of continuity MLP has in most shows made for adults. Overall, to me, MLP is a show that gets the type of care and dedication from the staff that you would expect from a hit prime-time show, but it does it in a show that is innocent and not filled with smut and violence. That's a winning combination for me and makes it by far my favorite show currently on television. Edited January 27, 2014 by Simon
lavender_rhyme 39 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 I am not your target for this paper either however I feel you could gear this paper towards all adults who watch the show because after doing my own research I discovered that the term "Brony" is not just for guys. The term is more geared towards adult fans of the show be them male or female and I think this is an important point and one that should be addressed. I am a 28 almost 29 year old married woman. My Stallion (husband) is completely supportive of my Pony Love and he will even watch the show with me on occasion. I have no children but I am a huge kid at heart. I am a die hard Star Wars and Disney fan and my whole 2nd bedroom in our house is my Nerd Room. It is filed with toys, LEGOs, books and stuffed animals from all different genres. I collect toys of all types and I would not be me without them. I have star wars, lord of the rings and harry potter tattoos as well. I very much wear my fandom on my sleeve. I even run my own website about geek girl fandom and I podcast and blog for 2 major Star Wars websites. The thing to keep in mind is that Fandom no matter what it is for gives us a chance to connect with others that love what we love. It is not just a show, comic or toy it is a passion. It is something that we love and that we are willing to share with others. I encourage you to teach your daughter that she never has to grow up that she can be a fan of whatever she wants to be a fan of regardless of her age. The key to anti-bullying in our geek culture today is to teach young girls and boys to be confident, passionate and proud of their fandom. There are going to be people out there that hate and this is because they do not understand. If they could understand that being a huge Call of Duty fan is the same as being a my little pony fan then maybe some of the bullying would stop. I am a huge advocate for breaking the stereotype that girls can't be geeky and with that in mind that boys can't be fans of my little pony. It does not matter why they like it just that they do. If they like it there is something they identify with and something that appeals to them. Everypony is different and that is the best part about fandom. I hope you will try to make this paper not about boys that like my little pony but about fans that like my little pony and that they are not any different from any fan of any other thing out there in the world. We are no different than those that eat, sleep and breathe football. To help you understand me more too I have a bachelor's and master's degree in athletic training which is a sector of orthopedic medicine. I grew up playing sports and I worked in athletics for 14 years. I am very much a jock too. So i am breaking all kinds of stereotypes for you here. As far as why I like the show...its cute, colorful, the show makes me laugh, i love the moral messages and I love Applejack's accent. Good luck and Pony Up! ~Lavender Rhyme MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU Fangirl Out with me and get your geek passion on at Fangirl Next Door and listen to some geek girls chat all things Fangirl over at Fangirl Chat on YouTube. Administrator Sir Hugsalot 9,367 January 27, 2014 Administrator Share January 27, 2014 Hi. It's good that You approach this matter with open mind, that means a lot of good about You. Well, I'll try to describe why do I watch this show as good as I can, BUT if there are any further questions feel free to send me PM and I will answer them So... As You've noticed - there isn't any very deep plot in this show. But what it represents. Friendship, love, it's something that we should not forget even when we are adults. They are shown in childish and straightforward way, but it isn't really a flaw, especially when considering that it was targetted to "little" girls and we, bronies are... unexpected fans of it It gives very positive message and shows very positive world that people may enjoy, no matter how old are they Character development is very well made, every pony in "mane 6" has her own personality, concerns and also... flaws. See, no pony there is perfect, and during episodes they learn new lessons about how should they behave, they face new problems that many times can be solved by them facing their weaknesses (Fluttershy having to face a dragon in order to save her friends despite being afraid of dragons is one of examples). Also this show provides sometimes some good laugh, because of one certain pony called Pinkie Pie being random and bubbly all the time :3 I think those are reasons why do I watch it And also fandom itself - there are many stereotypes about us based on some individuals that hardly can represent entire fandom (weird people are everywhere and judging entire fandom on them is just ridiculous). People here are very friendly, helpful to each other, not to mention some of them are very creative making short videos, art or music Best fandom I've been in so far. I know it's short, but I was always better in answering questions than in long descriptions of anything As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.
