So to be short and sweet-

Did any pony else notice that alot of the current "adult" age mares where present as fillies (Cheerale, Lyra,Bonbon,Derpy) but if you look close you will see Berrypunch, as what we might call a adult or at least teen (she is clearly larger and older then the other background well knowns in this flash back).

 

So does this mean she is middle aged in the present timeline? If the present fillies (from the flashback) have aged to the point of teaching as a school, running shops, and whatever Derpy does (besides our head cannon mail mare) then we could only assume BP is 10 to 20 years older then the mane 6 along with our fav background shout outs. How does this effect head cannon for everyone?

So Berrypunch may be the same age as Shining Armor and Cadance, according to that Flashback. Or she's in the same age group as the Cakes, if they're a category up. Or maybe even the same age group as Mayor Mare, and the mane 6's various parents.

 

Which doesn't really seem like a problem to me. Why do all the ponies need to be the same age? Why can't some be older?

Oh please, do not get me wrong!

 

Age means nothing! Honestly, we are a fandom that range from 4-70! If I implied that age was different then please forgive me!

 

What I was referring too was more so on the lines of Fanfics and head cannon. Many fans group the background ponies with few if only 1 line in the entire series as the same age. BP has appeard in many a Fic as a bar waitress or town lush or even courting several of the other characters.

 

I guess I just found it a bit jarring to see a character that is commonly written, drawn and implied by the fans to be NOT of the age group we thought her to be part of.

 

But I should state, that I rather enjoy the thought of her being older and not just so mixed in with the rest, the common thread of "oh they all went to school together" etc. That being said, since we are talking age, wasn't our local Teacher mare shown (in what I can assume was one of her first years at the job) teaching a young Lyra and Bonbon along with Rarity and co? Or is my memory getting out of wack. If it is right, Cheese flash show her the same age as Pinky and the rest...blah...maybe someone just threw in familiar faces and didn't want to make new animation resources and I am over thinking this. :shrug: Isnt that what we as a fandom do best!

Actually, I think Cheerilee was implied to be in Rarity's class in that episode. I think the teacher was a different character, but I could be wrong there.

 

It gets really weird if you bring in the comics, as in those Cheerilee *and* Mayor Mare are the same age as Shining Armor and Cadance.

There has been plenty of that happening. In "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", you can see several background ponies appearing to be the same age in Twilight's backstory during the Summer Sun Celebration. Also, when Apple Bloom is showing off her "Loopty Hoop" skills in "The Cutie Pox", there's a filly version of Derpy in the crowd of fillies at the school.

This has happened before, where one or more background ponies look older or younger in some flashbacks that are related to an episode. It might look odd, but there is a reason behind it.
