And now for something completely different: A Wet Blanket!

Huzzah! It's the year of the horse and the newest season MLP is in full swing. And between Season 3, Season 4, and Equestria Girls and the next one…Yeah... methinks it's time for something a little different.

For me, the first two seasons of Friendship is Magic were good and rightfully gained popularity because, for the most part, they presented organic, likeable characters and interesting character dynamics sprinkled with cartoon shenanigans, all within a world of boundless possibilities. Nowadays? Well...facepalm: apply directly to the forehead (Seriously, transplant most of the dialogue not related to anything about Tenderhoof or the Love Triangle *headdesk* into G3 designs, and be prepared for horror)

But, hating accomplishes nothing; Almost all the 80's and 90's boys only ever complained how MLP was "too girly" or "wimpy" but where had that gotten us? Absolutely nowhere! Lauren Faust, with her own imagination made it into the show we all love.

So, in tribute to the inspiration that is Lauren Faust, I'll do my own form of criticism by making the episodes "better". A couple videos about the most controversial topic are already posted. (Let's Make it better - Magical Mystery Cure)

Why am I doing this? Because of potential.

MLP is the first show I can remember to have the creative potential to be as memorable and timeless as Disney was back in its Renaissance and be as successful and manestream as the Avengers (coincidentally owned by Disney <_<).

Some may find my future posts too nitpicky or take things too seriously, but if I do my job right, then maybe, just maybe, more enjoyable engagement will be had and we'll all start to expect more than what we're given. And that my flank will grow jet boosters and make Half-Life 3.

Sir, have you seen G3? I'd say that comparison is unjustified, and furthermore I think the show still fits the bill for organic, dynamic characters with cartoon shenanigans thrown in.

The show has however gone through a tonal shift, it's going for more cartoony shenanigans, comedic moments, fan references (not panders, save for maybe Derpy in 'Rainbow Falls' which I thought was awesome personally), and weird scenarios than before. I see why some people may be disappointed with Season 4 and it's not perfect, but it isn't going downhill, it's changing. In my experience successful shows NEED to change or they retread the same ground they have already covered, making the show stale. I also think trying to hold MLP to the standards of a timeless Disney classic is a bit much. See Disney is trusted by society to handle rough topics when presenting them to children, Hasbro unfortunately isn't. Take Derpy for example she was censored because she was cross-eyed and clumsy. Parents took charge because they thought she was being played up as a retarded pony, she wasn't. Derpy wasn't treated any differently from any other cast member in the show. Parents however didn't have any issues with the darker themes in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" or the "The Lion King." Why? Because Disney gets more leeway than most.

On a side note I think Disney's recent animated shows are pretty lackluster, minus "Gravity Falls" and "Wander Over Yonder."

"Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity

"No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike

So...Wait, what?

You like the show, but you think you can make it better because clearly you have infinitely more talent and skill and experience than all the people who actually make the show?

Riiight...Good luck?

I'll be over here watching this thing that isn't remotely akin to G3, because apparently we're watching two very different shows...

Hmm…That hyperbolic opening sounded a lot more facetious when it was written my head like the Nostalgia Critic.

Lesson learned: Don't try to emote when forum writing especially with very animated critics as background noise.

But cards on the table the only "criticizing" statement I was sincere about was there is a lot of potential or "missed opportunities" so to speak that's not being tapped into. Now, being honest here, I'm probably saying this because I personally felt that the series jumped a small tank of piranhas after One Bad Apple and there hasn't been much of an episode to wow me back from the slump (The way how Magical Mystery Cure was presented made the feeling worse). So I'm put in a sort of uncanny valley at the moment: I feel like with a bit more polish or using different storytelling elements, a more solid episode can be fleshed out.

However, I then came across a pair of reviewers in a crossover (I am deeply sorry that I can't' remember the names), and how they mentioned they didn't like the "Hearts Warming Eve" episode, an episode I thought was inoffensive and overall decent.

They proceeded to describe the version they'd like: The episode would begin with the Mane 6 bickering about whatever which causes a minor disaster. Twilight would feel a bit depressed seeing her friends like that especially on such an important holiday and she would make them gather around and she (or Spike) would tell the origin story and that each of the Mane 6 would superimpose themselves into the story as it was told.

That premise had its own flaws but the thought experiment itself was actually pretty fun to think about. So, here I am with "criticism through creating." Of course, this will have to be a new topic as after rereading my own attempt at ironic comedy.....yeah....this needs a more subtle approach.

Obviously, I'd like for this to be for everyone so if anyone had anything they didn't like about certain episodes (even if it's a small nitpick), make their own and let's share! Expect a new topic with a more level-headed approach to openings.
