First attempt at digital art

Twilie

Recommended Posts

I downloaded GIMP onto my laptop the other day and was messing around with it trying to make an OC. This is my final (?) product (her name is Fern Grove). I am looking for tips and advice on how to make better ponies in the future, so your criticism is more than welcome here :)

Rock, you are a rock. Gray, you are gray. Like a rock, which you are. Rock.

Oh my...this is amazing especially for a first attempt, I love the eye and if I was going to say how to make it better then I think you should make her a teeny bit chubbier, just a tad because at the moment she is pretty thin. Other than that I love it! Well done :)

A few things I would critique on: The body mass of your OC. She looks a bit too skinny. If that was intentional then forgive me. Making the lines, especially the ones along her head, a bit smoother would also help too. ;)

You can either despair that a rosebush has thorns, or rejoice that a thornbush has roses.

Any tips on how to make my lines a little less wobbly? I am just learning low to use the line tool and its hard for me to get the lines smoother.

And thanks for the feedback (:

Hi, theneonbandit! I have two guesses.

First one - you could use curves, it would be especially effective if you already have background image. With this guys you can make very steady lines. But I'm not sure if this is good for practicing drawing skills, because using this curves is a different skill.

Second one - many paint\drawing programs allow "simplify" your lines, so they automatically corrects after you place them. Usually, it's a another parameter in pen-tool or vector-tool, something like that.

Nice drawing by the way!  ;) Keep up the good work!
