SkyBound 829 February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 Hello @Derpy Dash517. Just so you know, the Fan Music section is used primarily to display your work and gather any opinions, advice and critique to help improve upon your future musical efforts. As you seem to be seeking inspiration for writing songs, I have moved your thread the the Creative Resources section, where other members can hep you further. When trying to come up with ideas, it is best to start more general and broad and specify further once you have a foundation to work upon. Inspiration and ideas can come in varying forms, sometimes when you least suspect it. To get the most out of brainstorming, it is best to stick with what you personally enjoy and work from there. For instance, what genre of music do you enjoy, what artists do you hold in high regard, what are you generally interested in, who are your favorite characters among the show, etc. Yes, you can watch the show to gather ideas for your music and that may be enough. However, there is a plethora of resources outside of the show that would be a terrible waste to neglect. Build your foundation, work from there and you may be surprised by the results. I wish you the best with your endeavors and I hope that I was able to help in some way. Take care. Deviantart Tumblr
Empty Room 512 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 (edited) You could try and look for a source of inspiration in the show, whether it be fan-made or official. For example, I saw a certain picture of Twilight Sparkle on tumblr, and I'm currently writing a song based on its back story. I might not link the actual picture itself because it's slightly NSFW, but here is the backstory: Changing into an alicorn isnt all pretty pink sparkles and song numbers. It is a painful process that very few ponies manage to live through as most end up dying or going crazy as a result of the excruciating pain. Unicorns must first develop their own personal magic, which is in itself an arduous task, one which takes many years to hone. Once a unicorn’s magic is strong and stable enough they must undergo the transformation… Edited February 24, 2014 by Blackened "Have you ever felt the need to see more than you can see?" Deesinn 393 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Go listen to the music that you enjoy listening to, even if it's not about MLP. Take things that you like and make them you're own. Musicians are master thieves you know. For example, I just recorded a cover on the drums of the song Make A Wish, and a bar before the chorus there's this quarter note build up Pinkie sings and I needed something to build the tension. Couldn't figure out what to do so later on I was listening to a tune called Rapunzel by Dave Matthews Band. The drummer does this phrase that totally matched what I needed, so I stole it, and it works perfectly. So yeah, just turn on some music that you love and you should be able to come up with something.
Billy-Rex 54 February 24, 2014 Share February 24, 2014 Try to cover stuff, first. Rewrite texts etc, so you are more comfortable with lyrics.
