I am Starswirl’s Frankenstein,
I was his flawed masterpiece
He tried to conjure perfection
But a monster was all he released.


A genius but lonely magician
Was Starswirl the Bearded, the Great.
He was honored, respected, a legend
A master of wisdom and fate
But the old mage didn’t have one thing
Companionship – he was alone.
So he thought that he could create it –
The perfect heir, son of his own.
If only if only he’d known…

From all different creatures he fashioned
A wizard to beat all the rest
Imbued him with powerful magicks
So his son could rival the best.
But when he breathed life to his creature
His magic went out of control
From magic and chaos, I wakened
Grinning and wild and whole…
And the world would soon know the toll.

Since my daddy created me mad
But now that friendship was given…
His creation wasn’t…all bad…
Perhaps my father is...

Myself, I prefer the idea that Starswirl made Discord... to Discord being Starswirl.

I really like this. Both the song, and the theory. The idea thrown around that Discord actually is Starswirl was good but had a few faults. This makes much more sense and would make for some really cool stories. I think it's interesting that this would mean Discord succeeded in forming the friendships that his creator failed to make.

If they are of course genuine. I believe he may have gained a 'fondness' for Fluttershy so is playing nice but lets be honest no one else is his friend and for good reason. Heck I would argue his friendship with Fluttershy to be the sort of unhealthy type of friendships a person should be weary of.

Yea, I suppose you're right there. He does still act sneaky and tricky around them. But I can't help but give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his relationship with Fluttershy. I can see why it could be considered unhealthy in a way, but I personally choose to believe that friendship is real. That's my interpretation, anyway.

Yeah, the idea that Discord is Starswirl has kind of been debunked at this point; what with Starswirl being frozen in Limbo for 1000 years and all that.

Wow, I'm glad this thread got necroed or I never would have found this song. It's beautiful, haunting, and very touching. I have to take it as an alternate timeline idea though. I don't feel like the lyrics really fit Discord. This sounds like a creature dealing with a lot of self-loathing, and that just isn't Discord. Also, you can't ignore his name. The word, discord is an antonym of harmony, so he was literally the anti-version of the Elements.
