Need help with a name =(

Greetings! I am creating my first OC and I am having trouble coming up with a name...or that matter a profession.

 

I know I want her to be a unicorn, I adore them. I have a strong interest in the stars, moon as well as flowers and animals. So many a mix of a couple of those (star/moon , flower, or animals.)

 

I actually created a cutie mark VIA Paint Shop with a couple of custom brushes I had. It is two stars overlapping one another with sparkles behind them. But I'm not sure of a name that would go with it, or what colors (though I am partial to blues, purples and pinks)

 

Sorry if that was a little long, this is just my first and I want to make her correctly =)

Well there's a flower called a Stargazer lily and looks somewhat starish

 

 

Maybe you could do something off of that? Like Stargazer Petals, just Stargazer Lily, etc. Not too good with names, but I thought I'd try to give you some inspiration.

Well, for a cutie mark you could have a lily like that with a tiny gold star in the middle.

Coincidentally, Stargazer Lily sounds great for a pony name and fits right in with those interests.

 

She could be a botanist, maybe focusing on night plant life or something. IDK, those feel like two different special talents to me, but maybe something like that could work. It is all for fun anyways.

 

If you want to turn the lily into your cutie mark, I'd leave the stamen off and just use the pedals.

That's kind of what i came up with, with a cutie mark / colors..though I'm still not sure if those colors are proper for her.  And a botanist studying nighttime plantlife sounds pretty neat =)

 

(Also, I'm sorry I can't draw at all so I have to use generators or try to maybe trace base pony bodies, but as soon as I try adding hair or something it looks terrible =(  )

I like her, and the cutie mark looks good.

 

I'd maybe tweak the colors a tad though, eyes and hair, cutie mark looks good. Maybe make the hair colors a tad lighter, more pale, or go a tad darker. Though I think lighter would look best. The eyes, I'd maybe change to a yellow/yellow green to compliment the mane colors better rather than everything being the same.

I lightened her hair color (I hope not to much!) and changed her eyes, i kind of like the yellow personally.

Right on, I think that looks better overall. So long as you're happy with your OC is all that matters.

I have one other question to ask before I continue work on her.

 

Is it OK to trace pony base bodies and add her hair / colors so long as I don't claim them as my own?  I really cannot draw and I want a drawing of her so bad so I can use it for an avatar =(

I say find a vector, Deviant Art is a good place for that, and change the colors. The vectors are nothing more than traces of frames from the show in most cases, so what's it matter. Just so long as you don't claim responsibility for making the vector.

I don't think it is that bad. I always thought that Bronies made base bodies to help other bronies to make OCs and other pony drawings because...... uhhhh

That's very pretty =D.  Thanks, and I'll give that a shot.  Is Microsoft Paint good enough or should I just use my PsP X6? (PsP just seems overkill for a lot of stuff for me >_<)

I use CS4/5 for everything because that's what I feel most comfortable with and like the way the tools work. I also use Ponyscape for a lot of vector stuff, and have heard many people use GIMP. So it's all what you feel best with.

 

I personally would stay away from MSPaint since the anti-aliasing is non-existent, which will really hurt something when you use paint bucket fill to change colors. If you go about doing things that way.
