I finally get the ending of EG

Some people may think it was cheesy for Shimmer to break down like that suddenly, when seconds before, she was a demon trying to take over Equestria and the human world. But here's my take on it.

She never wanted to become a demon. I think all she really wanted was to be popular. She was seperated from her home world, Equestria, she had no other ponies to relate to. She secretly hated the human world she *assumedly* was imprisoned in. She made the best of it and tried to make friends, and ended up becoming popular and winning every prom.

Flash forward to when Twilight and co enter. Shimmer sees that Celestia chose a new chosen one and gets jealous. All the while, I think she deep down longed for her home world because the human world isn't nearly the same as Equestria. But she hid that behind her jealousy, which was easy, because she really was jealous.

Movie goes on, and she finally gets defeated. Bawling commences. Here's what I think. I think this is like the Prodigal Son story from the Bible. Just like the son who realized he was a fool for ever leaving his father, Shimmer felt terrible about ever wanting to attack Equestria. It took her turning into a demon and getting defeated by the elements of harmony to realize this.

Now, if you were stuck far away from your homeworld on a completely alien world for many years, and thought your mentor who taught you so much betrayed you, and you felt that she always meant to have you replaced, then wouldn't you feel at least a little sad and bitter? Maybe even go a little mad? When she attacked her fellow ponies and got defeated, and ending up thinking that they would hate her forever for what she did, I'm sure she had all the reason in the world to feel really horrible. She probably felt that they would leave her in that world to rot and never see her beloved Equestria again. I think even when she said she was gonna invade Equestria, she really planned that as an excuse to go back to her home world, but not without showing up the one (she thought) betrayed her.

And if all that fails, there's always the plot convenience excuse. Girls like redemption stories more than seeing the antagonist getting destroyed.

It was a good movie, wasn't it? ^^

And I think I remember Sunset Shimmer saying she just wanted friends, not to be popular.

(Or am I wrong?)

It's been a little while since I seen it. ^^"

The comics say she went willingly to be out of the grasp of Celestia. But why did she even come in the first place? And how come Twilight found people she can relate to and she didn't? That's the problem and not that she didn't have any other to relate to. The problem is she didn't have someone to be her friend before she went away... that's the problem.

That's the comic though, in the movie itself, Celestia sent her on a journey or something, or maybe she accidentally found out about the mirror. In any case, from what I do remember, Celestia frantically tried to find a way to return her to Equestria. Shimmer herself said that Celestia never sent her back home, which is the origin for her wanting to get revenge on Celestia by invading Equestria.
