Shame Badges

Warning points meter is a good method to stop an user from breaking the rules: It's painful to look at, and the points go away so slowly...So I came up with an idea how the user can pay the price in a slighty different way: Shame Badges.

1. What is a shame badge?

It is a special badge that you can only get if you accept it. Shame Badge lasts until you have 0 warning points.

2. How can an user get it?

Well, first of all, the user can accept it actually! You see, if you are given warning points, you can choose if you want to have full points and no badge, or badge and 35% reduction of points! So it's up to you how you will be punished!

3. Compulsory Badges

There are also the compulsory badges. You will have them during your punishment and they don't reduce points! They are only made for serious offences...and some minor ones too.

4. Ok, I get it. What the badges look like?

Well, here are the ones I came up with. Compulsory ones are marked with a +.

+For Plagiarism: ''Photocopier'' - Your badge is now a pink Photocopier.

+For Piracy: ''Golly Roger'' - Your badge is a Jolly Roger, but with a wat lady instead of skull.

+For Adverts: ''Pinky Mays'' - Billy Mays' head, but with pink ribbons in hair.

For Vulgarity: ''Gorilla Warfare'' - A gorilla's head with a military helmet.

For Abusive Behavior: ''Kim Fatty'' - Kim Jong Un's head.

For B-NSFW: ''Ash Pedreiro'' - Ash Pedreiro's head.

+For NSFW: ''Biggest Fan'' - Justin Bieber's head.

+For Backseat Modding: ''Worst Sidekick'' - Duck Hunt Dog laughing. Why? For being a useless and annoying helper.

For Spam: ''Wonderful Spam'' - A can of Spam.

For Low Quality posts: ''Action 52'' - Cheetahman's head, 8 bit of course.

For Roleplay in a wrong section: ''The Queen'' - Queen of England's head. For trying to pretend that you are someone you are not.

6. What if someone tries to intentionally give themselves a badge?

Well, a fan of Bieber or someone who wants to look original might want to intentionally break the rules, My suggestion would be, if this is discovered, not giving them a badge and instead, give them 500 points.

So that's it! What do you think about my system?

It looks good but I don't believe naming and shaming members with badges is a good idea. You will also have users who will do certain things so they could have a certain badge. Not to mention how bad the community will look at them! I think its more trouble than its worth and shouldn't be implemented, sorry.

Personally this is not a very good idea in my opinion. Yeah a member may have violated the rules, but making fun of them? Yeah... with the shit the place here has gone through I doubt they will want the added drama this surely would lead to.

I don't find putting people out in the open like that a good idea. Members who repeatedly break the same rule, maybe a little, but getting a badge like that for just breaking a rule once or twice?

(Yes, that was made in MS Paint. Deal with it.)

We try to keep the nature of people's warnings between them and the staff for both our sakes. Badges obviating not only that they received a warning but exactly why would be counterproductive.

Worse yet, these badges of shame would become points of pride for a number of people, therefore serving no correctional function, which is the whole purpose of the warning system.

Long before you arrived, Cutelestia, banned members had a special badge beneath their avatars (I gave it to the mods for April Fools) to indicate they're gone for good, which isn't too uncommon on forums. Posts that were removed also had a red bar left in place of them explaining why it was taken down. The administration at the time decided that not only was it a blight on the forum's landscape, but erecting a monument to somebody's failure wasn't incredibly tactful or useful. Once somebody has been awarded the due consequences for their actions, they should be able to move on and be done with it, not have to endure prolonged ridicule or ostracism. Which is precisely what shame badges would bring them, as well as making the forum itself appear an overtly hostile and unwelcoming place, a perception we would rather combat than foster.

The idea of badges for milestones, events, or other achievements that are noteworthy or fun has been toyed with. If anybody has suggestions for those, that would be very much appreciated, but we won't be adding anything pejorative or as an alternative to the warning system.
