According to the MLP Forums twitter account there was a hacker attack a few days ago and I think the connection problems have something to do with that.

I and other users have had trouble getting on these last few days with the site going out at unexpected times and I think it is likely due to that. I am getting these problems less now than I was a few days ago so it is nice to know that things are improving even if everything isn't perfect yet.

I had issues with the site just a few minutes ago; it basically said the site was offline and I was unable to sign in. I checked back just now and found everything as it should be.

Hi guys, yeah the site underwent a Ddos attack. Feld0 sorted it out quickly enough though so things should be fine.
