)O( Scarlet )O( 1,259 April 20, 2014 Share April 20, 2014 This is just my opinion and from my own observations, but I believe that there should be new rules set in place regarding discussing such topics as drug and alcohol abuse, tulpas (even though I have a few) and religion to name a few. Now, in regards to drugs and alcohol, I think that there should be rules saying that it is not allowed on the forum, or at least out in the open, PMs are fine but in threads, status updates, blogs, avatars and signatures, it shouldn't be allowed and I will tweak a rule a bit for example: Not only are drugs and alcohol out of place in the My Little Pony universe, but some fans who visit this site may be much closer to the target age than you and will not enjoy seeing things about drugs and alcohol drop on their screen. As for Tulpas and religion, they should be restricted, as I have observed that both topics have started some pretty nasty flame wars. This is a forum based on a show about friendship, not hating on each other. Once again, this is just my own opinion and from my own observations. The Elusive Cinder 1,328 April 20, 2014 Share April 20, 2014 It's difficult because of boundaries: why alcohol and not Caffeine? Do we ban folks from mentioning Coca-Cola? Of course, I'm playing devils advocate - but I do agree with a good deal of your points. My views (not directed towards yourself specifically, or anyone in particular): Religion - Whatever your belief, I don't care until you try to press it on others, especially if 'others' are children. And yes, phrases like 'the one true god' used in any sense count as trying to press your faith on others. If you are claiming that your god did this, or your god did that, then your enforcing your views on the impressionable. This isn't a place to try any convert the young to worship whatever sky-deity you worship. Ban. Hard drugs - No need for any discussions about this. It's so rare for them to ever be necessary to discuss that the tradeoff of banning discussion of them seems much more beneficial than harmful. Ban. Alcohol - Not so sure. It's a part of life to a lot of people (myself included) and I really don't want to risk a ban for mentioning it in passing. Kid's grow up around the stuff anyway - acting like it doesn't exist isn't going to help them. I think the key part is to not glorify it - but enforcing rules on something like that is difficult. Meh. Tulpa - Sure, it causes flame wars and serve no purpose here. If folks are interested then they should go to the Tulpa forums, not a MLP site. Again, for the hassle it causes, it's not worth it. Ban. 1 Never quite forgotten.
King 5,626 April 20, 2014 Share April 20, 2014 (edited) As for Tulpas and religion, they should be restricted, as I have observed that both topics have started some pretty nasty flame wars. This is a forum based on a show about friendship, not hating on each other. The topics of alcohol and drugs fall under the NSFW (not safe for work) catagory. Religion and Tulpae do not fall under NSFW. It's understood that certain topics can lead to some arguments but it's people who are ultimately responsible for these arguments rather then the topic and as such I don't see the need to restrict others from having intelligent religious or tulpa specific discussions. In the end, its the behaviour that leads to fights that should be punished rather then the discussion itself as it holds the potential for intelligent debates/discussion. If folks are interested then they should go to the Tulpa forums, not a MLP site. Whilst this forum is named after the show, its important to realise that we're here for the fandom, not specifically just the show, which is why you see sub forums for non show specific discussion. Tulpa fall into the non show specific discussions that we allow. Shanks 10,817 April 20, 2014 Share April 20, 2014 From what I understand about the rules you can discuss social and political implications of drug and alcohal abuse but can't have topics or statements like "I got so wasted last night" which sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I have no interest in tulpas so I haven't really paid attention to any of those topics but I have paid attention to topics about clop and grimdark and know that those are probably just as volitile if not more so so why just stick to banning topics about tulpas while still allowing topics about clop and grimdark? Religion can potentially be volatile but as I have observed so can many fandom related topics like clop and grimdark as certain show related topics, twilicorn got so heated that it once had its own subforum on here. NavelColt 22,883 April 20, 2014 Share April 20, 2014 As for religion, we've had an approach to that for a while. And, I feel Tulpas are the least of the problems, as I've yet to see much drama basing itself from it, which must mean they not only stay self-contained, but also don't really go anywhere too bad. Gonna go ahead and lock this, and be sure to add a summary of what Artemis said in the link I posted, somewhere to the rules.
