a site shop? with virtual currency

like a shop with currency and when you post and the longer the post is (not spam of course) the more what ever it is you get and you can buy stuff with the currency but don't make it able to buy the currency with real money so you can only earn it and the stuff at the shop could be like account upgrades like maybe a bigger mailbox but the most important of all collectibles like stuff like cake or different kinds of fruit and different flavors cake but put a limited quantity and have shop refills also because of the limited quantity it will get sold out then people will sell the collectible for a higher price and maybe monthly birth stones where it is only there in the month it is and you can give the currency to someone

I've seen this done on a different forum a long time ago, they eventually dropped it once they upgraded the site.

 

It'll make some newer members and members that don't spend all day on the site feel worse because they don't have a million items collected like some members who spend 90% of the day on this forum.

 

In the end, I don't see this idea doing very well.

The forum I was on before had a feature like that. From what I remember, nobody ever used it and iirc, item display was eventually removed from member's profiles.

The Bro Team forums has that. They're called "moneyshows".

You can use them to buy items that disrupt other members, like ones that change other people's names, change their signature, change their usertitle, and even one that steals moneyshows.

I'm too lazy and distracted by Youtube at the moment to go find it, but I know for a fact that this has been brought up before, and both members and staff have agreed that this idea is not worth it in the long run. My two cents is, that shops serve to undermine the point of posting on the forum for sake of discussion, having fun, sharing idea, artwork, and other things, not for the sake of building up for fancy things to get at a store x)

Seems like a bad idea to be honest. It'd take all the fun out of the forum for me. I like the forum as it is. Works just dandy.

Having been on forum rp sites like Gaia, Roliana and other avi sites, forum currency is a tricky thing unless you have avatars your buying clothing or items like an MMO for. However, for a site like this I think it could be implemented but I think currency is not what should be used, I think a point system is a better idea. A basic point system that simply gives you points from post that can go to badges, trophies, and special icons that are unlocked like achievements would be much better since those points can be decided by the users as to what it goes to, or be seen as a fun unlocking portion of the site that everyone can earn if they simply post.

 

Think of it this way. When you post in the normal sections for this example will uses the show discussion, you will get points, lets say you get 10 points per post. For a basic badge its 100

points meaning 10 post for a badge and you can upgrade that basic badge every 100 until you get to 1000 and then you have a medium badge and then its 500 points and so on. Each section would have one and it would show where you post the most thus showing what type of poster you are. The types of badges within a section can be seen as achievements. All of these achievements can be for fun and if nothing else for giggle since most of them will be for silly things, like

 

Badge: "Raise with the morning sun": Made 10 post being 8 am (your morning time)

Badge: "Night Owl": Made 10 post after 12 pm (your night time)

Badge: "Apple to the Core": Made 20 post in the AppleJack fan club thread

 

And so on. Heck all of these could be made by the community as a fun project and simply coded at a later date once all it complete if the admins/mods enjoy this type of thing.
