Occupation: Odd jobs pony. Later salesclerk at Quills & Sofas, and later an employee of the Ponyville blacksmith.

 

Appearance: Light gray coat with a dark gray, unkept mane, and vibrant green eyes. His mane has a maroon streak and his tail is long with maroon stripes.

 

Cutie Mark:A wisp of green flame with three sparkles. It symbolizes his talent for exotic magic.

 

Personality: Kind and thoughtful of others, with an optimistic and idealistic outlook on life. Jade is, however, introverted and uncomfortable in large groups of strangers, preferring to mingle with ponies he already knows. Among friends, he is affectionate, though often silly and snarky; among strangers, he is modest and passive and sometimes overly polite.

 

Thanks to a traumatic experience in Canterlot (as described in the Backstory spoiler), he tends to freak-out or otherwise become neurotic when accused of something he didn't do.

 

 

Backstory: Born in Salt Lick City, Jade moved to Canterlot as a young colt to enroll in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. His special talent is exotic magic: magical arts common to griffin kingdoms and dragon clans, that aren't typically taught in Equestria schools. Thanks to his vague special talent and education at the prestigious school, he is a talented spellcaster (though not nearly as powerful as Twilight Sparkle). To help supplement his income, he took a job as a caretaker in the orphaned dragon nursery operating out of Canterlot Castle when he was old enough, a job he enjoyed.

 

When he was 17 (approximately one year prior to Twilight Sparkle's defeat of Nightmare Moon), he suddenly dropped out of the School for Gifted Unicorns and moved to Ponyville. Upon arriving, he got caught up in an adventure in which he forged bonds with his current circle of friends (and ultimately resulted with the corrupt mayor of Ponyville arrested and replaced by the Mayor Mare we all know and love).

 

He currently works odd jobs around town. As his special talent isn't particularly useful for work around Ponyville (and he's not good at being a teacher), he takes whatever part time jobs he can get.

 

 

The true reason he left Canterlot was not because he dropped out of school, it was because he was expelled. He was inadvertantly an accessory to an assassination plot against Princess Celestia. The attempt on her life ultimately failed, but the assassins killed a couple of guards and kidnapped a baby dragon from the palace nursery in the process. Jade, being guilty by association of high treason, was originally going to be exiled from Equestria, but Celestia decided to how mercy instead, as she realized Jade truly had no idea what was going on. However, accidental or not, he was still guilty of treason, and in the end he was still banished from Canterlot.

 

 

Other:

Jade's a closeted colt cuddler. Also, the fact that he has a girl's first name is purely a coincidence.
