How I Feel About the Fandom.

I finally found the perfect analogy on how I feel about the fandom and why I'm torn:

Picture a beautiful city, Sunny and full of life and people doing awesome things and street performers showing off all of their trades along the sidewalks and just brightening up everyone's day. A place where even the sunset brings beautiful night and lively night life full of good music and people nursing a solemn mood under the comfort of shadow.

Now, picture this place is surrounded by horrible slums that scare off any possible new citizens and even entice some people to leave town because of the garbage they get from people they interact with out of town about how shitty the place they live must be and how horrible it must be to live there, and even from ex-residents who has been staring at those slums on the outside for so long they've forgotten what lays beyond,

That is how I feel. I love the show, the comics, this fandom, and the people in it, but I feel like outside pressure is forcing me out.

Don't let the outside pressure get to you, man. I've been picked on for my love of the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise for years, and outside perception of our fanbase is pretty rough. But I've been a fan of the Blue Blur since I was four years old, I'm not going to give up now just because of some ignorant people trying to make us look bad, same goes for this show. Why should you care what they think? If they're making you feel this way they're winning! They want to manipulate your emotions in an attempt to make you stop liking the show, because they themselves don't like it for whatever reason (it could be really be anything). Many of these people follow the phrase "Stop liking what I don't like!" and nothing more. So please Shoboni, don't let them get to you, it's exactly what they want.

You are a stronger man than I, it's been three years since I've really been in that fanbase because the problem portion of it got so bad and I really wasn't getting anything out of it.

I don't think I'm a stronger man than you, because you aren't weak, you're just emotion-driven. They're hitting you in your weak points, and will most likely try doing it again, but you should really try to ignore the unbridled hate that's stacked against us. It isn't going away anytime soon, and if they get to you (which is natural) just realize that you have us at the forums to support you.

That, and I have bad habit of falling with the bad part of the internet where mocking awkward people runs rampant.

Well, you, I, and many others know that awkward people generally don't deserve that. I've seen a lot of people like that (remember the bad 50% or so of 4chan I mentioned? Think them) and I find their mocking juvenile. It's honestly not worth my time nor my effort to even acknowledge them, if that's how they behave.

So what? I don't know about you, but I'd take outcast over asshole any day o' week.

I've been kind of going through the same thing myself, but I've slowly been beginning to realize that being an outcast in this regard isn't necessarily a bad thing, if everyone on this planet was an did nothing but spew hate all the time-we'd be so busy fighting each other that nothing would ever get accomplished-so you should feel pride in yourself for being better than that.

I could go on and on about haters and their hilarious misconception on Bronydom, it's all hate and made up bullshit whose sole purpose of existence is to make people like us feel terrible.

Don't let it make you feel terrible, it shows that they have won.

I do get where you're coming from. It's hard not to seethe at a bunch of literal idiots - not just ignorant or misguided people, I mean willfully stupid mouth-breathers - spreading hateful propaganda about a subculture that hasn't harmed anyone in any way. I could understand if they're just tired of the overly-enthusiastic bronies bringing ponies into conversations that have nothing to do with them (I'm tired of this as well), but to sling vile shit such as "pedophile" or "aspy" or "faggot" at us as though we're subhuman filth?

Well, we all know who the real subhuman filth is in that situation. And in the absence of any viable ability to cleanse these people of their filthy nature, the best we can do is refuse to respect or dignify anything they say. Intellectually, they are on the level of lobotomized gorillas, so anything at all that we may try to say to them - whether it be to flame them or try and make them understand - is nothing more than breath/keystrokes wasted.

At the end of the day, we bronies have something these morons will never have: The ability to go where we choose. Not where our culture expects us to go, and not even where our counterculture expects us to go. We have the integrity and the strength of character to pursue happiness as we see fit, heedless of what others tell us is a "right" or "wrong" avenue of pursuing that happiness.
