Only one real Rarity episode

I've been haphazardly working on other blog entries but this occurred to me and is not worth a forum thread.

Rarity has really only had 1 episode. Yes, there have been three episodes where she stars (not counting Sweetie Toils for this) but neither Simple Ways nor Inspiration Manifestation actually focused on her as a character.

Simple Ways simply flanderized her personality for its sitcom plot and IM had her bewitched.

Meanwhile AJ had 5 episodes I believe. Yea, they weren't always about her directly but still....

Just putting it out there for the sake of discussion.

Then why are you saying AJ had five episodes when she shared more than half of them with another character? :)

Simple Ways is certainly more about Rarity than any other character. It taught her to remain true to herself instead of changing herself to please another pony. :D I haven't watched Inspiration Manifestation but I'm sure Rarity was a lot more important in there than you think.

You can't just dismiss episodes you don't like, you know. ;)

You can't mischaracterize what I said. I'm not saying the episodes don't count because she shared them, I'm saying they did not actually deal with her as a character for one reason or another.

Most episodes are shared, in case you haven't noticed.

Also, doesn't this:

Contradict this?

Expecting every episode to give her character a lot of growth is just silly. Not every AJ episode has given AJ growth. Furthermore, Rarity's portrayal this season has been met with critical acclaim, enough so to be able to leave her detractor's starving to death for ammunition to use against her (not that any of it was really ever valid to begin with, anyway, but still.)

She's gotten a good portion of shared roles (just as every other character has, I should add.) and has been portrayed excellently throughout. She's also been given a lot of lead roles this season, especially compared to last season, where we, as Rarity fans, drew the shortest straw and didn't get a single episode, not even a shared role.

We've been getting a good helping of great Rarity this season, so complaining about something good we've been given when previously we had nothing gets us nowhere as a fanbase.

I'm not saying IM and SW don't count because she shared them.

I'm saying they don't count because she was rather flanderized in SW and pretty much just a bewitched force of nature in IM with the bulk of the conflict and lesson being on Spike.

Kindly deal with what I'm actually saying, and disagree with that

So, you're saying they don't count because you dislike them?

SW was pretty Rarity heavy and I thought it was entertaining. You're saying that I'm wrong for thinking that's a Rarity episode because you deemed her flanderized in it?

Furthermore, IM was Spike heavy, but you can't say she didn't play a leading role there. I think it boosts her count some, given she did have a major role. It was also stated to have been a Spike/Rarity episode to begin with. Never was solely a Spike episode nor was it solely a Rarity episode, and it was never meant to be.

No, I recognize them as silly. While I found SW underwhelming (as McCarthy lauded it as great) I still like it. At first I did not.

Maybe I am being unreasonable but I still think it says something that only one episode really dealt with her as a character rather than an engine for jokes.

Simple Ways definitely should count as it was purely Rarity's lesson not AJ's, and she wasn't as OoC as one might think in that episode. Her bad traits were definitely cranked up a bit, but they didn't forget the good ones.

She also learned a lesson and had ample time to interact with others in Castle Mane-ia and Trade Ya!, so why don't those count? Is it because it was shared? You literally just said no, so was it because they were humor-driven? Well, that doesn't make sense to me, because Pinkie would never have an episode. Hmmm...I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at. I'm trying to see it, but I'm just not.

She's the first primary focus in simple ways, She shares the spotlight with spike in imagination manifistation, Art of the Dress, Rarity in Manehatten, The Dog and Pony Show....... Shes had several episode that used her as one of the mane focuses.... So...... OVERULED!

ehhh...even as someone who disliked Simple Ways, I still say this was a great season for Rares, and I do think FWtSBT should count too, she was great in that episode, even if was more Sweetie Belle than Rarity

People sure do talk about Rarity a ton...lol
I believe that in a certain way, those episodes do star Rarity and focus on her generosity and kind heartedness. On the last episode, although it was a Spike episode, it was also a Rarity episode for the most part.

The only episode I can agree on is For Whom The Sweetie Belle Toils, for that was totally a Sweetie Belle episode, focusing on the relationship with her sister.

Well, you make a strong case. So my mind has been changed,

One question though, what good traits were present in SW?

Development. She learned that she shouldn't change herself over a douchebag hipster and to stay true to who she really is, which is a prim and proper princess of fashion :D

well, aside from learning the lesson

What else was needed? It's obvious that she wasn't being herself to try and catch Trenderhoof's eye. I don't think the episode was really designed to showcase what a great pony we all know she is, but rather to give her that development and allow her to learn that lesson :D

Sorry I didn't respond right away. I'm pretty busy up until Thursday.
