Journal Entry #5: Friends Forever #7 Mini Review (SPOILERS!)

(MARVEL) Blue Blood

I haven't read any of the Friends Forever comics. I follow the main comic series, and I've only read Pinkie's and Celestia's Micro Series issues, so going into Friends Forever was a bit odd for me. What got me hooked was the team up between Luna and Pinkie Pie. I thought it was an odd combination, but then again, Rainbow and Trixie was an odd combination, yet I haven't read that issue. So I figured "I'll give Friends Forever a chance." I just read the issue now, so it's time to share what I thought about it:

What I liked/loved:

The first fourth with Twilight and Luna talking about comedy was pretty funny.

The props from Party of One are back! :D

The moral of being funny is only funny when you and the audience find it funny was great

The art was really well done

What I didn't care for/didn't like:

This Luna is a bit of a step backwards in terms of progression if you've read the main series comics, and I'm guessing the Micro series issue.

The comedy is rather basic, and feels like a missed opportunity for bigger and better jokes.

There aren't too many negatives for me in this issue, but the negatives do drag the book down from being great. But still, for my first look in the Friends Forever series, it wasn't half bad. I'll give it a 7 out of 10. :)

A nice small review you've made blue blood. Another problem I had that another one pointed out in the EQD comment section is of how the comic spent a fifth of the issue on Twilight and Spike's interactions which felt completely pointless in the end as it took up time that should've been spent between Luna and Pinkie Pie as the comic's conflict could've been explained just as well to Pinkie Pie at the start and we would've been able to have seen more humorous pieces from them, which I also agree with your spot on review that it did felt basic and not over the top creative.

As for my own personal take, about Luna's portrayal in the comic, I'm sorry but did you felt Luna was being kind of an asshole to Pinkie Pie when she remarked of how important her role is over Pinkie Pie the class clown.

Another thing is that according to 'Princess Twilight Sparkle part 2', Luna was the one who wielded the element of laughter but here she's having serious issues trying to top over Celestia for humor. It's likely me over-thinking, but I want to know what you think?

She was, but considering how big this was for Luna, I could buy some level of tension. I still say the book is good, but it was rather disappointing considering the team up.

Fair enough on that response. Thank you.
