Neediness as a natural characteristic of our fandom
This is meant to give some clarity on the subject instead of being insulting in any way. When something is simply understood, moral judgments become null.
OK, with that out of the way... I'm sure those of us who have been interacting with the fandom for a while have seen this in other bronies and/or in ourselves as well. Neediness being defined as "desiring constant affirmation, lacking in self confidence". These traits are more visible in some than others.
So how could this be some kind of a natural consequence in this fandom? It's actually quite simple. Many brony communities explicitly or implicitly express that it takes inspiration from the show which itself explicitly or implicitly proclaims the acceptance of others as they are. With that promise in mind, they join a brony community hoping to find acceptance -- and so they constantly seek it. The worse parts of this neediness shows when for any reason whatsoever one begins to feel insecure.
(I think that the brony mantra sets the fanbase up for all sorts of problems it doesn't know how to solve but that'll be for another blog. That topic was partially explored in the blog Friendship is Myopic)
