Mand'alor Dash

I feel as strong as a bull moose, but there are only so many years in history, and so far I've covered every single one of them from 1900 onward. All that's left is the present day. I guess it's time to return home.

Have one final blast from the not-so-distant past, as Lady Gaga performs a little ditty off of her exceptional Cheek to Cheek album. Lush Life. Incidentally, the only song on the album not to feature Tony Bennett, who I had already featured in 1999.

You've done a fantastic service and job forming these blog posts in your countdown. Your determination, intellect, and vast knowledge on the subject of Music's history is something I envy from you :)

Good work.

Good work.

Thank you, but I assure you my knowledge is not at all vast. xD

Some of these eras I have only a cursory knowledge on, and I had to do research on each individual year to pick a song. There were also many very notable artists that I just missed out on altogether. To name a few: Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Doors, and Nirvana. I even missed out almost entirely on 1980s hair metal and rap.

I'm glad you loved it! It's very encouraging to hear this, but there's alot I would do better if I ever tried this again.

Oh, and uh... Stay tuned for tomorrow. ;)

You didn't think I'd stop with a whole 'nother year left, did ya?

Yay!

As both a young adult of the current generation and a queer person, my opinion on Lady Gaga is...mixed.

On one hand, I can certainly see the potential in her. Her voice is amazing (the recent Oscar performance), she's good in writing songs and I have to admire her ability to direct and act in her videos. I also admire her philanthropy.

On the other hand, I don't feel like she's really the best person to always look up to since she's appeared somewhat brass occasionally. I also appreciate the basic message behind Born This Way, but-not to be an overzealous zealot here but have you ever heard anybody use 'Orient' to describe Chinese people seriously anymore? Have you? ...plus, I have a feeling that sometimes she's trying too hard. I think that her choice of...unusual appearances is half her own way of expressing herself and half to get attention. *thinks of seeing meat dress all over the headlines a few years ago and cries*

I'll take her over Madonna anyday, though. *is shot*

Can't say I agree with the negatives. For starters, "Orient" just worked better for the flow of the song. "Or-I-Ent." Three syllables. Compared to "Chi-Nese," which is only two. The song demanded a three syllable word.

And while Gaga'a attention whoring might be a little ridiculous, at least she's creative about it. I'll take the meat dress any day over Miley Cyrus grinding against Robin's Thicke. Gaga, to me, the only pop star with any sense of sincerity in the modern music scene. Everyone else just seems like a colossal fake.

Eh, each to their own. I still don't like the adjective, but I do realize your point. At the very least, she didn't use mustard stain or anything like that ^.^

About Miley Cyrus, from some of her interviews I can tell she's a smart person, but while I'm normally surportive of sex-positvity I do think she forced it way too far. And while I do like pop music I admit it hasn't been as good as it has a few decades ago, but I can see some pop stars do make meaningful songs once in awhile. I usually find the both of them not worth my time but Katy Perry wrote a song about abuse and Taylor Swift wrote one for a dying girl, so I'm not capable of judging them.

Generally, though, Adele, and to a lesser extent Gaga and Britney are the only pop stars I claim to like nowadays. It's just movie soundtracks and the deep, meaningful lyrics of the Sixtie-

WHYYYY DONT WE DO IT IN THE ROAD, WHY DONT WE DO IT IN THE ROAD, NO ONE WILL BE WATCHING US, WHY DONT WE DO IT IN THE ROAD

...aside from that one.

Is it bad that I kinda like that song?
