Lullaby for a Princess Animation
July, 24, 2013.
That was the day the long awaited animation project known as
That was also the day I stumbled across this:
You better believe my response was “Oh, hell yes!”
Whereas Children of the Night heralded Princess Luna as its focus, this time it was Celestia’s time to shine. The song that Youtuber WarpOut intended to animate,
A month or so later, WarpOut released an update video where he went into more detail about the project, as well as answering a few of the more frequently answered questions.
It was then that the project seemed to go dark. No new updates, no signs that the project had been put on hiatus or outright been abandoned, just total silence. Truth be told, I actually forgot about it for a while, as this is not the first time I’ve seen a MLP project hyped up before biting the dust.
Over two years passed with little to no word of progress, right up until a few weeks ago, where WarpOut not only confirmed that his vision was nearing completion with a
And thus, to much fanfare if the EQD comments were anything to go on, the Lullaby For a Princess animation was finally released. Was it worth the two year wait? I would have to say it was.
Now, it’s not perfect, nothing ever is. A few of Celestia’s movements come off as jerky to me, especially when she’s swinging her head back and forth while singing. However, Children of the Night had its own fair share of issues if you looked close enough. Also keep in mind that while Children of the Night had an entire team working on it to emulate the show style as closely as possible, this was all ,to my knowledge, done by one guy. Forgive me if I cut Lullaby for a Princess just a little bit more slack.
Besides that, the backgrounds are beautiful animated and the characters manage to perfectly sync up with the intended emotion of the song, at time amplifying it to often tearjerking levels. While I harped on the jerky movements, amazingly the best part of this entire animation is possibly the massive fight between Princess Celestia and Nightmare Moon. It just feels so fluid and I don’t want to even begin to image how long it took to animate that sequence alone.
Fair warning: you may want to keep a box of tissues nearby just in case. If the song by itself is enough to bring you to tears, then the accompanying animation with reduce to bawling your eyes out.
If you’re a fan of Celestia like I am, you owe it to yourself to watch this video, if you haven’t already. And even if you aren’t that big a fan of Best Pony Princess Celestia, you still should give it a shot if only for the impressive visuals.
