Ponycon 2016: Volunteer Perspective
Ponycon 2016 here in Brooklyn, New York is now over. After being on an already emotional high from my graduation which was two days prior of the start, it was very hard to let this go.

I am here to tell you my experiences from the convention, but since I volunteered, I will talk about what I did as a crew member, including the things I did when I was allowed to leave my post.
Day 1: At the beginning, I somehow ended up working registration, which was not my department, but I was just like ok. During that, a woman asked me how long the line was, and I was like "it's really long", and then she started ranting and cursing, and I'm saying in my head "there are children here, please don't curse." She said she wasn't directing it towards me, but it sure felt like it. Later on that day, I met Peter New walking around the vendor hall, and I had the opportunity to speak to him, and I have to say that his personality is just great. Unfortunately, he had to go, and he expected to see me at his autograph signing, which I went to, and we talked some more. What was a high at that moment spiraled quickly once I lost that Smash Tourney in the first round to a girl. That pretty much ruined me for the rest of the day.

Day 2: It had a slow start, but it really kicked off when the "Singing Voices of MLP concert" happened. It was amazing , even when Ingrid Nilson sung that Frozen song, which I don't like. Same thing when Shannon, and Vincent sung that duet from the same movie. It was to be expected that everyone was waiting for Lena Hall to sing the song she sung in that Season 5 episode. Hearing it live was touching. She even sung "Equestria, the Land I Love", which I guess is now the Brony anthem, for that is what she said. Later on that day, I got an autograph from her. She was also nice when I spoke to her. The line was long, and that was to be expected (I bought my voucher a day in advance after missing the opportunity to meet John de Lancie at Bronycon last summer.)
Day 3: I have to say that this was my most busy day. I attended a ton of panels with the ok from the head of my department. They were all back to back up until the closing ceremonies. I have never attended any closing ceremonies (I was in a different department last year, and was unable to leave my post, and I had to leave Bronycon 2015 early, to catch a bus back to New York) so this one was special to me (just remember that there will most likely be a Liberty pony forever stuck in the chandelier thanks to Jim Miller.) Probably the most touching moment for me during the closing ceremonies was when all the yellow shirts (volunteers/crew members) got recognition and called up to the stage (I was the one with the purple sweater for anyone who was there.)
And that's about it. Now there are rumors going around about this being the last one, which I really hope is not true, for I would love to do it again next year, and the years to come.
