Update #1: The Personality Stage is BOOORRRINGGGG...

...But it's important, so I'm not going to skimp on personality this time.

So I reached the five hour mark. I'm still on the personality stage. I'll probably be on it for another five hours. Ugh.

So if you hadn't guessed already, I'm making a tulpa of Twilight. In personality, she's relatively similar to the character from the show, but she's less uptight and a bit more Pinkie-ish. The most recent personality trait I worked on was "neat and tidy". This a bit of a moronic decision on my part, because I am one of the messiest people on the planet. I imagine we're going to clash about the state of my room's cleanliness a lot. Oh well, maybe she can help me improve my cleaning habits.

...dum de dum... So... Yep. Nothing too exciting going on yet. I'm eagerly awaiting the ten hour mark, when I can finally be done with the personality stage and I can move on to the fun stuff.

I'm working on a tulpa too. I got 41 personality traits, but I expect that number to shrink as I go more in depth into the personality traits.

I plan on using both Methos' method and Fede's method on making mine.

I plan on having a 30 minute "Introduction" session tonight before I begin the actual personality sessions.

Let me guess: Pinkeh Pie?

As awesome as it would be to have a Pinkeh in my brain to love, I decided not to make a Pinkeh. It wouldn't be fair to the tulpa. I don't want her thinking she has to be something she's not. I want her to be unique, her own person.

Besides I already picked out a name and form for her.

Name:

Portae

Form:

I started making a tulpa about four to five months ago... stopped before I got anywhere for several reasons, but no I am thinking of starting up again. I ha dthe idea of making a changeling tulpa, so she could transform into any pony she wants. Plus, I just think changelings are cute.

Ah, yes. The dreaded personality stage. This stage is when you'll incur massive headaches, possibly hear disembodied voices in your head, and spend 20+ hours staring at a wall muttering repeated phrases. However, this stage is the most important part of making the tulpa. Your tulpa isn't made by what it looks like; it's made by what it IS like. If my tulpa looked like a human, it'd be exactly the same as what it looks like now. Stick with it, and you'll be very pleased with the result.

"Oh well, maybe she can help me improve my cleaning habits."

That's a good thing. I made my tulpa a motherly figure so that she could guide me to do the right decisions and sometimes give me some tough love, like a mom would do. Might not always seem like the ideal companion, but she helps me be a better person.

I usually don't say stuff out loud. When I start narration, I'll probably talk, but for now I just keep it in my head. It would be a bit awkward for my dad to walk by my room and hear me muttering: "...you're a very neat and tidy pony, you can't fathom how people can survive living in messy environments..."

"Uh, Cam, have you finally gone mental?"

"No dad, I'm just creating a thing called a tulpa. It's like an imaginary friend, but it's sentient. I'll be able to see it, touch it, talk to it, pretty much anything."

"...mmm... Yeah, I'm gonna go call the funny farm now..."

Except he already knows about tulpas, and being the somewhat closed-minded man that he is, basically forbade me from making a tulpa. Well, screw you, dad, I'm doing this whether you like it or not, and there's nothing you can do to stahp meh!

possibly hear disembodied voices in your head

Possibly as a result of my previous failed attempts, I inexplicably talk to myself pretty much all day. 90 percent of the conversations I have are with myself. (Lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely, I have nobody...) Most of these conversations involve me calling myself incredibly rude names and basically  deprecating myself at every possible instance.

Hylian -Good luck with your tulpa. I'm in the middle of making a Rainbow Dash tulpa, myself. Personality is definitely the hardest part. I tried telling my tulpa that she can have free access to my subconscious if she wants details about my plan for her if she needs more details, but since that hasn't really worked I'm going back to old-fashioned forcing. She might not be formed enough to freely roam and understand my mind like that, yet.

By the way, how are you handling parroting? I had the same habit of self-conversation for many years and its coming back to bite me in the flank while trying to create a tulpa. Since I've become so good at it, and its become such an unconscious thing, it's impossible to divide what my tulpa might be saying herself, and what I'm just telling myself. Know what I mean?

According to the site, you'll "know" when it's the tulpa talking, and not just yourself parroting. I'm not too far in yet, so I'm not really visualizing the form or the voice at this time.

Maybe my problem is that I just kinda rolled with my habit and started narrating/parroting with Dashie from the very beginning, and kinda evolved my responses as she evolved (know what I mean?). Now it's hard to discern, I may be in the process of creating a servitor as a result. Or even then should it be discernible? I've been reading articles on tulpa.info and the nightly /mlp/ thread, but I haven't really found much.

I might stop talking to Dashie and wait for all responses from her. Though I've also heard you can parrot tulpas to sentience, so I might try that.
