Episode 33 - Oblivious Pedestrians

Hey.  Y'know what really grinds my gears?  Pedestrians that are f*cking oblivious to traffic.  Y'know, people that just cross the street and walk in front of cars without checking or looking up.  Often times they're fixated on their phones, but sometimes they don't even have a phone and they're just staring at the ground or something.  What the f*ck is wrong with you?!  Do you want to die??  Is that it??  Is this a suicide attempt??

The worst, the absolute worst, is when people just meander along in traffic lanes, making absolutely no attempt to get out of the way of cars.  Just yesterday I went to my gym, and I was driving through the parking lot in the traffic lane that traverses the whole front of the shopping center, and two friends were exiting the gym and crossing in front of me to go to their car.  Did they bother to look up and check if it was clear?  No.  Did they even care if I saw them?  No.  They just talked, oblivious to anything else.  Did they cross the traffic lane safely and swiftly?  No.  Instead of looking both ways, and then walking straight across the traffic lane, thus clearing it as quickly as possible, they instead wandered and meandered at a very gradual angle, sort of slowly making their way to the other side, walking right down the traffic lane with their back to me, not a f*cking care in their heads as to whether they were blocking traffic, or possibly going to die.  Okay, it may be a little difficult to visualize what I'm talking about.  Here's a diagram:

You have the building, a two-way traffic lane in front of it, and then the parking rows.  So, an intelligent person who doesn't want to die should cross the traffic lane like the blue line shows.  Look both ways and then walk straight across.  Instead, they just strolled along randomly and lazily, blocking traffic as they did so.  So keep in mind, I'm sitting in my car, in the traffic lane, waiting for them, and they're just trundling along down the center of the lane, not even bothering to look around or look over their shoulders or anything.  F*CKING IDIOTS.

Oh, did I mention this was at NIGHT??  IN THE DARK.  Yeah.

Do parents not teach their kids how to cross the street anymore?  Look up, you dumb f*cks.  Turn your Celestia-dammed head and watch for traffic.  Y'know, assuming that dying actually bothers you.  If it doesn't, then by all means, go ahead and get run over, I guess.

You know what I do when I cross street?  I look both ways (even if it's a crosswalk and I have a green light and walk sign), and then I begin crossing swiftly and efficiently, and as I'm walking, I regularly and continually turn my head and shoulders both ways, looking one way, and then the other, getting a continuous, complete 360 degree view.  I remain vigilant and cognizant of what's happening in the intersection.  If someone doesn't see me and starts up, or some maniac just comes barreling down the street and runs the light, I'm gonna see it.  And you know how many times I've been killed by cars?  Zero.

I probably wouldn't care so much if the oblivious pedestrians were only hurting themselves, but they make the situation dangerous for everyone.  It's dangerous for drivers, too, and I feel really sorry for drivers who end up hitting someone because the pedestrian was being stupid.  Freakin' respect cars and roadways, ya freakin' morons.

P.S. I'm not implying that The Beatles were stupid pedestrians.  I just like the picture.

Well duh, that's what peak performance looks like.
