Recently Got Targeted by Scammers
I wish I was making this up, but YES, this is real. Soon after almost having an exorbitant amount of money stolen from my bank account, I got proof that there really is no rest for the wicked as fraud attempted to strike me again. Two scammers on DeviantArt attempted to steal money from me with e-check overpayment scams. For those who don't know, that's when you get sent more money than what a scammer initially promises you before asking you to transfer money back to them as compensation. The way you get cheated is from the e-check(s) being sent to you being fraudulent and bouncing. Even though I thankfully caught on to the scam after I was asked to transfer money back and sent neither scammer anything, I made the foolish mistake of cashing two e-checks that ended up bouncing.
I did attempt to rectify this error right away though by reporting the fraud to the bank immediately. So far, I've very fortunately had them be gracious with me and tell me that the only penalty for this will be the item chargeback fees I've already received, which haven't actually cost me any money. It's horrifying though how bad the consequences for making this mistake can be. You can have your bank account shut down, get blacklisted so that you'll have a hard time getting another bank account, even go to jail. Most people just have to pay the bank fees for the bouncing, but in more serious cases, the consequences can be that dire despite you having no clue you cashed a fraudulent check. I will NEVER, EVER be accepting e-checks as payment again, I also posted about this on DA.
I also wrote there how the scammers reacted to me wising up to their chicanery. One of them just deleted everything and ran for the hills. The other actually had the gall to gaslight me and accuse me of trying to take the money I wouldn't actually get and run. Once I showed him proof that his charade had been exposed, only then did he shut his trap and leave me alone. Not that it would've mattered, because once there's proof, you can deny reality until the cows come home, it does nothing.
Anyway, I TRULY HOPE I don't have to deal with any more insanity like this any time soon. I'm burnt out from dealing with BS like this, I REALLY want a break.
