What does everybody think about the Manti Te'o scandal?
The whole ordeal really irks me. Why would a standout football star who would have female classmates throwing themselves at him cultivate an online romance? Why would Ronaiah Tuiasosopo impersonate a woman on the phone and online to court Te'o? Why, in a day and age kids are taught to be Internet savvy, didn't Manti keep his emotions in check? Manti should have insisted on a real life meeting and when Ronaiah refused enough times, Manti should've broken up with "Lennay".
As Doctor Phil would say, "What were you thinking?" The whole Manti Te'o case is a case study on how NOT to conduct oneself online. The exchange of great ideas and opinions between people on the Internet can lead to great friendships and romance. But we also need to practice good judgment to prevent misplaced emotions. These can lead to scams or twisted scenarios like the Manti Te'o scandal. A real life meeting is a must before things go too far. Until you truly KNOW who the person on the other end is, never give them your credit card number...or your heart.
Just about everybody reading this has better sense than than guys like Manti and Ronaiah. And for those who don't, help is available in the Life Advice section. Anyway, I'm done running my mouth. I want to hear what you guys have to say about this case, or your own experiences.
