3 OCs, All Who Hate Each Other
Actually, 4, but one of them doesn't quite fit into the hate triangle, and that doesn't make for a snappy title. But yes, I engineered most of these characters specifically to be ponies who would majorly piss each other off, which is probably at least a little unique. I have been playing around with them all in my head for a while (especially my favorites, Moraine and Silent Night), and I thought I would reveal them to the world now. I don't have a particular fanfic or roleplay in mind; I just like toying with these ponies. Since I am NOT a drawing sort of artist, I used the pony creators to show color and the rough idea of each of their appearances. Any inaccuracies will be noted, as well as cutie marks because I didn't draw those either:
The "Mane" 3
Moraine:
Appearance: Her bushy mane and tail (shorter than depicted) stick much closer to her head and body than the picture above suggests, and she has slightly more feminine eyes. Cutie mark is two snow-capped mountains, representing her love of the cold and outdoors.
Element: Honesty
Description: Born in the Las Pegasus suburbs to two upper middle class businessponies, she was the youngest of her 4 siblings and the only girl. Her parents were harsh and overbearing when they were there, but were barely home, so discipline was inconsistent at best, and being treated like a baby by her brothers didn't help matters. Moraine hated everything about her family and her life in Las Pegasus, savoring the few moments away from "those, smug, self-satisfied idiots" that she could get. Yes, nothing made Moraine smile.
Then they went on a two week long winter vacation to Windigo Village, up high in the snowy mountains. One morning, Moraine snuck outside to enjoy the nature on her own, and found herself enraptured in its beauty. For the first time, she was genuinely happy. And although her family returned to Las Pegasus and didn't revisit the location, she kept the experience close to her heart.
Now an adult, Moraine has moved to the higher altitudes and finds as much delight in nature as ever, finding beauty and meaning in the ice and snow. But you'd never get to see her joy; when she spots another pony coming her way, her smile immediately turns to a frown, and the air turns so icily tense that anypony with sense would turn away immediately.
Yet, Moraine hides some true caring about ponykind behind the scowl. An idealist at heart, Moraine wishes that she could do "something that mattered". Her dream career would be to become a politician, but she hates actually interacting with other ponies and the corruption she sees in the system. Moraine never had a friend in her life, and intended to keep it that way.
Note the past tense. In recent time, she has made her first and only friend, Silent Night, after they saved each others lives in a treacherous forest. Silent Night being homeless, Moraine took her in as her roommate, and there's an inseparability about them. Silent Night wasn't like any other pony Moraine had met; she didn't blabber at the mouth, she had incredible patience; she was thoughtful, kind, and made her life into something that was important; she was a good pony. And although Moraine is still likely gonna hate you, there's a more gentle side now. A more caring, more compassionate side. Despite being the least approachable and certainly the least friendly of my OCs, Moraine has a heart of gold, and is moving in a positive direction. Also, wow, this ended up being long.
Moraine's Opinions On The Other Two:
Opinions On Vesta: "She's surreal. For anypony else, I'd call that kind of exaggerated niceness fake, but she's completely serious about it. I didn't even know there were real ponies like her before, ones that could get mugged by somepony and just say, 'Oh dear, that wasn't very kind of you, now was it?'. It's exhausting, but you can't even say no to her. She'll just try to make it up to you by talking more."
Opinions On Bright Lights: "At least Vesta has a brain. Bright Lights is, and I am not exaggerating here, the stupidest, most annoying mare I have had the misfortune ever to meet. She talks, thinks, and acts like she is five years old, and still has a patronizing attitude towards everypony she meets! I want to throw up whenever she opens her mouth. Which is all the time. She justifies her own ignorance and laughs directly at knowledge and learning anything but singing and dancing, which she considers herself an expert at and will never let you forget. The levels of fury that she incites in me are quite astonishing."
Vesta:
Appearance: Her flowing mane, shown in the picture, also has locks coming down next to her eyes, somewhat similar to Katara's "hair loopies" from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Overall, she would be considered pretty by pony standards. Cutie mark is a hearth, representing her skills with cooking, her nuturing instincts, and being something of a pun on the date she earned it.
Element: Generosity
Description: She grew up in an idyllic small town in eastern Equestria, with an idyllic and supportive family where she was the oldest of three siblings. Her warm, caring nature earned her her cutie mark on one Hearth's Warming Eve, where she made dinner for her sick mother, father, sister, and brother. But did she earn the cutie mark for the delicious meal, or for the motherly act that she performed?
Vesta is now a college-aged mare. She is a fairly good student, but lacks a certain amount of passion and drive. Her nature is very accepting and easygoing, but "Oh well, I guess I was a little late, mistakes happen" is not an effective attitude when it comes to schoolwork. Her reluctance to hold strong opinions about things has made her many friends, but also some enemies, who wonder if she actually has an opinion on anything.
Vesta is majoring in education but she's not so sure that that's the career she really wants to pursue. She wants to be a cook just as much as she wants to be a teacher. Vesta's magic finds itself just as home in controlling the temperature of a fire as it is controlling a piece of chalk on a blackboard, and she is constantly wavering between the two. Though she tries to push the issue into the back of her mind, Vesta, the mare of "maybe"s and "I'll think about it"s, is finally finding herself having to make decisions, and important ones.
Vesta's Opinions On The Other Two:
Opinions On Moraine: "Oh, her... She's a grumpy bear. She's just mad all the time. I feel bad for her, because she looks so alone out there, but one time, when I tried to say hi to her, maybe ask her what's wrong, she just lashed out at me. Any kindness anyone ever tries to give her, she spits in their face. She... she makes me kind of mad. When somepony takes the time to be friendly towards her, she looks down on them and tells them to shut up (sorry for my language) and go away. She hurts their feelings and doesn't ever apologize! That's just not fair."
Opinions On Bright Lights: "For some reason, she really really doesn't like me. I mean, I like her just fine, and I think she's a really great performer who was born with so much talent, but I can just tell in her eyes that I make her angry, but I don't know why. Was it something I said? It's a bit frustrating, because if I knew what made her dislike me so much, maybe we wouldn't have to fight."
Bright Lights:
Appearance: Actually, basically the exact same as pictured above (though she likes to vary her mane-style), but the face is misleading; she makes most of the same facial expressions that Rainbow Dash does. Cutie mark is three differently colored spotlights, representing her love of the stage.
Element: Laughter
Description: Bright Lights was born and raised in Manehatten by ardent theater parents. She has one older sister, Curtain Call, who, despite being a good dancer and choreographer, never had the natural stage presence of her little sister. She got her cutie mark at a young age when she saw her first musical, and theater has been her life ever since.
Bright Lights has a very forceful personality. If you liked her, you'd call it "childlike"; if you didn't, you'd call it "childish". Playful and energetic, she expects other ponies to be just as odd as her fellow "theater ponies", and acts accordingly. Bright Lights is also ditzy and a bit of an idiot. She is blissfully unaware of both how annoying she comes across as to some, and her older sister's jealousy at her fame. Bright Lights is well known for her huge stage presence and she brings it with her everywhere she goes, even to situations where it is not needed nor wanted. She wants everypony to be a performer, and when they aren't, she just thinks they need a little work.
But don't let this mislead you. Though by first blush, she seems incredibly juvenile, Bright Lights is, in some ways, the most mature of my OCs. Bright Lights has an incredible work ethic, and takes setbacks and criticism with stride. If she wants something, she stands up and does it. Bright Light is a passionate, ambitious mare, and she's doing exactly what she wants in life every day because she wouldn't have it any other way.
Bright Lights' Opinions On The Other Two:
Opinions on Moraine: "Well, sure, she thinks you have like -5 IQ and treats you like a baby with special needs and thinks that the whole outdoors belongs to her and too bad if you want to enjoy it too, but she does speak what's on her mind and isn't afraid to say it. I can respect that."
Opinions on Vesta: "Oh my gosh, that pony. If I sing like an angel, she tells me it's "nice". If I sing like a dying cat dragging its claws against a blackboard, she says that's "nice" too! And she puts all of her praise on my supposed "natural talent". The only reason why she doesn't have "natural talent" is because she's lazy, indecisive, and just expects her decisions to be handed to her on a silver platter! Don't listen to her for too long, you know, or you'll get a mouthful of cavities. Urgh. Gives me the creeps, like some sort of Stepford Mares sort of dealio."
And Number Four
Silent Night:
Appearance: Her spiky tail and especially mane are much longer and more flowing; her mane reaches to her knees when it isn't thrown over her back. She is almost never seen without her cloak on, which has a very similar appearance to the one that Rainbow Dash wore in Read It And Weep and leaves her face somewhat in shadow. Cutie mark is a keyhole with a starry night sky in the opening, representing her nocturnal nature and her skills as an escape artist.
Element: Kindness (interestingly, she and Moraine both represent elements that the other lacks)
Description: Was not born in Equestria. Her family was high class and old money, and expected to groom their daughter into being a politician until it turned out that she was mute. Feeling like she was treated as less than a person and a failure at all skills she tried, she ran away from home after eavesdropping on her parents arguing intensely about her one night, which also earned her her cutie mark. Her mother and father went looking for Silent Night, but never found her. She avoids thinking about it.
Silent Night has made it her mission to save lives of other ponies and use her skills at stealth to help others, earning her the nickname of "The Silent Knight". She has traveled far and wide; once, she was mistaken for a local hero in one small town by the name of "The Mysterious Mare Do Well" thanks to her silence and tendency to disappear into the shadows, a mystery to all. Even herself.
Silent Night doesn't really know who she is; she sees herself as the Silent Knight, just as everyone else does. She's always sitting on the sidelines, wordless, and is thoroughly detached from life and sometimes displays a lack of caring on the individual level despite her great kindness and benevolence on a universal scale. Nopony knows about Silent Night. Just Silent Knight.
Except for Moraine. After rescuing her from alpine timberwolves while traveling through the mountains, Silent Night was in turn saved by Moraine when she took her in and provided shelter from the blistering cold. Moraine saw Silent Night not as a helpless mute or a hero on a pedestal, but just as another pony. She joked around with her and even talked with her through her body language, instead of at her like others did. Ironically, only through another pony is Silent Night beginning to feel like her own being, instead of the watcher in the shadows.
