C.Discord's Thoughts on Double Rainboom
Been a horrible, horrible blogger the past few months; almost nothing at all going on. I'm afraid I simply haven't found the interest or time to write out any more DeviantART art review pieces, and I also never get around to blogging about anything else. Who knows, maybe that can change soon.
In the meantime, here's a blog referring to my thoughts on the long-awaited installment of Double Rainboom, the first full-fledged MLP:FiM episode created by the fanbase.
Enjoy and whatnot~
"Not bad at ta'll, mate. Well worth the suspense and wait all this time whilst we dealt with drama bickering over a pair of flight appendages and teenage pony humans."
Very, very excellent. As many have already made clear, the animation, character interactions, etc. were top notch for fan animation, and can easily be compared to the show itself. I personally found much, much enjoyment on a lot of the visual gags, poses and expressions made by the characters, many of which I haven't seen done in the show itself. It's always great to see in-universe material from the fandom actually build onto the characters in the ways they act and interact.
Just for one example. Actually, Dash was obscenely cute throughout the entire scene. Lure grabbing, swatting playfully at Twilight's floating potion glass, the various comical sitting positions, etc. I don't find that the show has these in great supply, at least on a per episode basis. More than enough in this single installment to make me a happy camper. Spose' the fans themselves are quite excellent at making the adorable and funny over-the-top emotions for the characters truly shine through expressions, poses and dialogue.
As for the plot, it was plotastic. The storyline wasn't bad, either. It was interesting, but certainly simple enough in design to make it realistic for the show. You know, not including all of the cartoon cameos. Which I, by the way, practically fangasmed over. The Powerpuff Girls was the ultimate reference, for me. Not only was it one of Lauren's top worked shows from the past, but it too featured cute female characters. A parallel was drawn, and I very much enjoyed it.
And for moments like these, too.
Some people are picky and only want it to be ponies. Others didn't watch the other shows so they can't appreciate their inclusion like other fans can. That's fine. Still, I don't see the point in criticizing this animation for that, or letting it at all tarnish your complete enjoyment of this work. They're cameos. You don't have to like it, but don't go on and on about it. If you feel like making it a big deal, I recommend you get over it, please and thank you
Hmmm. What else is there to say? Not much. The dialogue, characters and the way they were portrayed was adorable and well-done, the storyline was unique and a good, outside of the box style that was perfect for a fan animation, and the cameo selection was obviously a terrific fit that was pulled off well, in my opinion. I've seen art of the PPG and Dash meeting before, and always wondered how they'd interact. My inner fanboy adored their entire introduction with each other.
Definitely worth the wait. Not a doubt in my mind. Best fan animation our fandom has produced thus far, hands down.
