OLDER ALBUM MINI-REVIEWS #1

Moog the Kvlt

Alright then so I decided that since I don't wanna leave any of you guys hanging off with nothing after I just created my music Review Station being hosted on my blog, I figured that I'd do the first entry of this segment which I like to call "Older Album Mini-Reviews" which is just where I make mini-reviews of some of what I think are legendary/classic albums in my heart. Now as for how the requests are doing, I'll start listening to the Netsky album tomorrow, and I'll probably start writing the review by the end of this week. I'll also be posting a review of the new Depeche Mode album as well. Now that's out of the way let's get started on the list.

Converge - Jane Doe

Jane Doe is Converge's most notable release and most well known one yet. Jane Doe was the album that marked Converge as a headbanging furious band, and made them grow to their status that they have. Now do I think that this is an album for everybody out there, do I recommend this album? Well, if you love screaming vocals that are thrown onto this album with a dirty and raw production, then it's definitely for you. Jane Doe portrays anger in one of the greatest ways, with it's very well written lyrics and it's loud, noisy and furious sound. The album starts out with the headbanging track "Concubine" which in my opinion, is the craziest song on the whole album. Then as the album continues you get to songs like "Distance And Meaning" and "Hell To Pay" which aren't as crazy as the other songs from this album, but definitely do remain with the same full-on angry emotion that the other tracks do, and then finally the album ends of with the 11 and a half, minute title-track. The title track really does evolve when it goes on, and deserves the name of the title-track because it's almost like every single track on the album piled into one. All of the raw emotion, and violent headbanging, just sums up in this one track.

ISIS - Oceanic

Alright then, so here's another Metal album making it onto my list, this time it's the Post-Metal/Sludge band named Isis. This was the first Isis album that I had listened to, and it definitely still is one of the most unique Metal albums that I've ever heard. Oceanic is both aggressive and calming, it has these parts with growling, and powerful vocals, then it goes off into these long instrumental parts in each song, that just make you feel relaxed and get lost into the riffs of the album. The album starts out with "The Beginning And The End" which is probably the most suitable track to start the album off with, because it has the aggressive side of them, but when it gets to the instrumental parts of the album it doesn't get too calming.

Near the middle of the album comes tracks like "Weight", "Maratime", and the untitled track from the album. These three tracks go extrememly well together like peanut butter and jam on a sandwich. The untitled track has this very weird and unusual feel to it, and this track really does remind me of "Mantra" by Tool off of their album Lateralus, in the sense that they both have a really unusual sample playing through the entire track, that gives you this almost confused feel as towards what the sound exactly is. Then comes "Maratime" which just gives you a sense of relief from the discomforting untitled track, in the fact of how it has such a Post-Rock vibe to it, when you listen to it, it's just such a beautiful sounding and really relaxing feel to it. After that comes "Weight" which gives off such an Ambient feel to it, then evolves into more of a Post-Rock song. "Weight" is without a doubt the most peaceful song on this entire album. It just really gets you into such a relaxed feeling, that is just further amplified by listening to it after listening to the other tracks that I had previously described.

Once all of that ends the album goes back into it's more aggressive side of things with the track "From Sinking" which gets the feel of the album back again with the aggressive vocals being added onto the really flowing guitar riffs. The final track from this album being named "Hym" is the most appropriate end to the album, it has the most clean vocals out of all the songs, but gets aggressive near the middle of the track. Do I think that this is an album for everyone? Most definitely not, this album is an acquired taste that I don't think everyone would like.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

Loveless is an album done by the shoegaze band named "My Bloody Valentine", the album was one of the first albums to really define shoegaze music. Loveless has soft, touching, and flowing guitar riffs that are loaded onto a wall of effects that it gives this album such a softer tone that it's like a Drone album that you can fall asleep to. Loveless is actually to me, the greatest shoegaze album and one of the very few albums I like that are played in this style. Do I recommend this album to anyone? Most definitely not, Loveless is an album that really takes quite the ear to enjoy it.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Now here's an album that more people would enjoy. But really though, do I even need to go on about the legacy of Pink Floyd, how whenever someone mentions the band's name, that rainbow with a prism album cover pops up in your mind, do I really need to explain all of that? Well I'd hope that everyone reading this review knows all about this album, and how it is still considered today as one of the most legendary Progressive albums. But now let's get off of that and get onto the review of Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd.

he songs on this album have both an experimental taste on them as well as an easy-listening taste which is the one thing that I think is why Dark Side of the Moon had gotten so popular. Songs like "Money" have got this really kind of funky feeling to them, while ones like "Time" and "Breathe" have a more calming feel to them, but yet still enjoyable without falling asleep. Each of the songs just have a nice flow to them that isn't interrupted, but yet at the same time most of them don't repeat themselves constantly. This album is definitely, without a doubt, well deserved of it's fame. Now whether this album is your favorite Pink Floyd album or not, that's entirely up to opinion, though Dark Side of the Moon will always remain with it's legendary status.

Now that sums up the first of my series on Older Albums, if you'd like to leave some feedback on each of these albums and what you thought of them, or any albums that you'd like me to review then it would be greatly appreciated. If you are looking for me to recommend some albums then people do leave those in the comments as well. So thank you very much for reading through this, and I hope to get to more of these, see you all later.

Have you listened to Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth?

I've heard some of Sonic Youth's songs, though I haven't heard any of their full albums yet

Glad to hear that, these reviews were only ones that I did right on the spot. Happy to hear that you agree with Jane Doe being a great album.
