Don't Mess With your Sleep Cycle!

Alright, so as the title suggests, this is pretty much a warning to all you late-night internet users. Please, for the love of Celestia, DON'T stay up to the extent of screwing up your sleep cycle!!

I cannot stress the importance of sleep, well, actually, I suppose I could: IF YOU DON'T SLEEP EVENTUALLY YOU WILL DIE!!

That might be a bit exaggerated, but yeah, basic importance level. I'm saying this because once you screw with your sleep cycle, it takes a lot to get it back in shape. Especially if you go to school or have a job.

Let's look at it this way: Say Jimmy normally gets 8-9 hours of sleep every night. He falls asleep around 10:00-11:00 PM and wakes up around 6:00-7:00 AM. He then gets ready, and goes to school at 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. He then works at a generic general store part-time from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. He goes home, eats dinner, does his homework, watches a movie or two, does his personal hygiene, then the cycle repeats.

Say that Jimmy finds the internet for his first time, on a Monday night. :D Hooray for Jimmy, right? Not exactly, because Jimmy decides to look up cat videos until 5:30 AM, at which time he goes to his room, and collapses on his bed. His alarm wakes him up at 6:30 AM and he sluggishly gets ready for school.

He dozes off on the bus ride there, but forces himself out of it. All day long at school, Jimmy is sluggish, and not wanting to cooperate, focus, or pay attention. He falls asleep during his last class, and receives a warning slip from his teacher for doing so. After school, he walks to the general store, trying to hype himself up in order to stay awake.

The whole time he's at the store, Jimmy's productivity is down. He is less of a friendly person, and gets irritated quickly. His actions cause his boss to become cross with Jimmy, and as such, Jimmy is sent home early.

When Jimmy gets home, he's so tired he collapses on his bed immediately, and goes to sleep. His alarm wakes him up at the normal time (6:30 AM) and Jimmy finally feels well-rested. However, Jimmy has not showered, has not done his homework, and has not eaten in 18 hours. He quickly goes through his hygiene routine, eats a stellar breakfast, and does as much of his homework as he can, as quickly as he can.

He's nearly halfway done when the bus arrives to pick him up. He quickly gathers his things, runs out the door, and hops on the bus. He tries to do some more while he's on the bus, but the ride is too bumpy to write, and the other kids are too noisy to think, so Jimmy gives up.

He arrives at school with half-done homework, and, let's just give Jimmy a test in every class, because why not?

After school, Jimmy goes to work, and because of his behavior yesterday, his boss always keeps an extra good eye on him. He gets home from work, and Jimmy's parents begin to discuss with him the grades he got on his tests. (The teachers are superhuman, okay?)

Jimmy is grounded for a week, his boss isn't all that happy with him, and he's strayed from his path of all A's.

All because Jimmy screwed up his sleep cycle.

Why am I telling you guys this? Because I stayed up all night, and have to go to work today. Yep.

Anyways, have fun guys, and thanks for reading!! Someone put me out of my misery...

I'm doing okay, but there are some nights that I stay up until 12 and wake up at 6 am for school. I guess I don't have it bad since I don't stay up until like, 2 am the next day.

I still want to learn to sleep at like, 8:30 pm and wake up at my usual 6 am, though...

Yeah, that's not too bad, Kobato. I'm really bad sometimes, staying up all night, or until about 3 in the morning.

I'm trying to get into the idea of getting off BEFORE I get on a random YouTube video streak, but no luck. XD

That is why I am very strict about my particular sleep schedule. I work 7am-4pm 2 times a week and my job is very physically and mentally demanding even on the days I only work 16pm-6pm like today for example. And I go to school 2 times a week and go to the school library for a couple of hours before class starts. When I have an early I got to bed at 9:30 and wake up at 5:30 on all other days I got to bed at 10 and wake up at 6. This has served me very well, has given me some extra time during the day on days I don't have to work early and has allowed to fall asleep more quickly and easily.

@Tengu.  When exactly is 16pm? XD

I kid, I kid. That's actually a very good cycle you've got going. Do you use an alarm to help wake you up, or are you one of those talented people that will themselves out of sleep? :3

.....mother....is that you? O.o

I stay up, sometimes I still get up early. Now, I have recently gotten into this weird habit where i'd wake up and go back to sleep at least a few times a week....once a week to be exact i'd probably do this.

Reference the title, my friend. And I'm not your mother.

Unless you want me to be...

A motherly figure, in which case I'll try my best, although I will more than likely fail.  :3

I thought that if you stay up for _____ amount of hours without sleep, your body will literally pass out so you WILL get some sleep.

I always have the alarm set just in case, but if I get a good night sleep my body will often automatically wake up around 6. When I need to wake up at 5:30 for my 7am shifts though is when I really do need my alarm.
