An amazing write-up about an amazing episode! 

Wow, now where do I start?  I think you hit on all the major points.  It was kind of a redemption for Spike and the abuse he sometimes endured throughout the series.  It was rather predictable that the powerless Humdrum would save the day but in this case it was well executed.  And even though Fluttershy is my favorite pony, the two Power Ponies I liked the most were Rarity and Applejack.  They had great costumes and their demeanors suited the abilities and personalities of the heroes they were modeled after the best.

Oh no doubt about AJ and Rarity, the only reason that Fluttershy's bit was such a scene-stealer at the end was because it was so amazingly hilarious and simultaneously awesome!  I also thought it was quite hilarious how Twilight was basically Scott Summers/Cyclops and, despite being usually such a likable main character, was here about as bland as he usually is.
